Thanks for posting the email Bikeman. I've emailed them 2 times in the last month and I never receive anything back.
Last night, I went into the Charter store in Charleston Town Center mall and signed up for the HD Service. Here are the key points:
- HD Receiver is $6.95
- HD Service $3.00 (just to send the signal to your home, no channels)
- ESPN-HD & DiscoveryHD $4.00 total
- Installation $29.99 (they wouldn't budge on this. They said that they have to send a service person out to your home to verify and setup the box. The lady said that they have had several people sign up for the service and the service person would go out to their home and they wouldn't have a HDTV. I wanted to pick up the box from the store, but they don't have any there (they are in the warehouse). If I get an email response like Bikeman, I'll try to get my $25 back.)
- Free DVD Player (the offer ended last night and I was able to get the last one (thanks to the person that signed up for HD and didn't have a HDTV
). This will help make up for the $30 installation fee.)
I didn't sign up for any of the movie channels. I asked the lady if she knew of any new channels coming and she said they are working on some deals, but they don't have anything right now.
Also, they will try to push the HD Install Kit ($14.95) and say that they have to include it with the install. I told the lady that I already had the cables and her first response was that I don't have the cables. I told her that I had component cables and didn't need the kit. She finally broke down after realizing that I knew what I was talking about and didn't include the install kit.
In the end, I'm slightly happy. I thought the initial cost was a little high, but hopefully they will get some more channels soon. At least I'm ready for the baseball/football seasons and hopefully the hockey/basketball playoffs (and T-Wolves and Lakers on the 26th).
