I'm a big fan of that eye candy. I'll have to pick up that movie for sure!

We've watched a few movies in the last few days:

I too watched Taken. I had not seen it before, and it was a pretty good movie. It was a bit predictable at times, but the action was enough to keep us interested. 4/5

After that, we watched Chariots of Fire. My sons are both runners at the high school level and wanted to see this classic. The BR was beautiful, but the story was slow at times. All in all, the family rates this one 3.5/5 (my vote was for 4/5. :-)

Some of you may remember "The Punisher (2004)".

Well, Thomas Jane is back as Frank Castle in a YouTube short.

The Punisher, Dirty Laundry.

"I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in - a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It's been a blast to be a part of from start to finish -- we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it." -- Thomas Jane

Watched Iron Sky (2012)
2.4/5(amazon 3.5/5, imdb 6.1/10, rotten tomatoes 41%)
Absurd black comedy: Sarah Palin v. Nazis from the moon
B movie.
Pretty good CGI space battles.
Steampunk.
Finnish director Timo Vuorensola makes every nation break it's word except Finland.
Routinely stupid by intent. Had to pause it once to retain my sanity.
Don't think I'll show it to the family. Might loan it to a friend who thought Idiocracy (2006) was 'the best film ever'.

budget: 7,500,000
Germany's first weekend (164 screens): 1,017,796

Timo's last significant film was "Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning (2005)" which is probably available on the internet for download somewhere.

Watched:

Paranorman: 4.5/5

I really, really love this movie. A horror story for kids with bullying and feeling like an outsider as the context of the story. Incredible detail in the stop motion. An ending that uses cgi, stop motion, and audio to create a truly remarkable moment that even my 9 year old commented on. Best animated movie of the year.

Warrior: 3.5/5

Better than I thought it would be. Dysfunctional family meets Rocky. The final fight is simply heart wrenching.

Seabiscuit: 5/5

I cry every time that damn horse beats War Admiral.

Brave - Netflix DVD - Mrs. RTROSE and I were really looking forward to seeing this. The latest offering from the Disney - Pixar group with a female lead. Well I wish I could sing the praises of this film and say that it is in the class of Toy Story, The Incredibles, or Cars but I can't. It is a fine/good movie, but typically the offerings from Pixar are well above fine or good (obviously there are the exceptions from pixar that have missed the mark Cars 2 for example) but this just did not warm the heart like some of the other offerings did. There are some funny moments (the prince triplets are a lot of comic relief) and the "bear" chase through the castle is funny moment in the film. What is present though is a strong message of family, trust, and trying to learn/understand where others are coming from and resolving those issues with what is really important (the love of a family). Not the best offering from Pixar, well worth a rent, but I'm not buying this one. 3/5

Regards,

RTROSE

We redboxed MIB3. I was old enough to really appreciate certain key parts of this movie. Also very good LFE. I give it 3.75/5.0

Also streamed Lawless. Despite some graphic bloody violence - I give it a 3.5

We had the obligatory Holiday showing of White Christmas. I must say, I think I found something worthy of Mr. Skin in one scene that when blown up to this size, I never noticed before. LOGANESS thinks I'm right, and a pervert. But it is what it is. So, if you watch this and see it, don't point it out to your kids.

Damn you Logan!
I just about had myself talked into skipping White Christmas this year.
Now I HAVE to watch it smile.gif
Well, you only HAVE to watch the one scene.

But I would like a second opinion.
Hey! I had a spoiler in my original post that is not there any longer. I didn't get any nastygrams, about it, so I'm going to put it back up in this post and see if it sticks this time.
Warning: White Christmas Spoiler! (Click to show)
Check out near the end of the Minstrel Number scene. Chorus girl in front row, second from right as you look at the screen. She appears to have forgotten part of her costume. The girl to the far right MAY have also, but it could be a shadow. You'll want to pause/step through it.
Now I am going to watch White Christmas a little more closely biggrin.gif
post #7243 of 7630
A word of advice if you are watching all of White Christmas with your wife. DO NOT under any circumstances start to pause/step through to look for this! Wait until AFTER the movie and then go back to scene selection. If you do this DURING the movie, you will have to explain EXACTLY what it is you're looking for. Trust me, you DON'T want to do that in the middle of the movie.

I'm just sayin'.
Ok. We need a screenshot.
Well, you're not going to get one from me. Plus the likelyhood of a screenshot doing any good is miniscule as I've never noticed it until it was blown up to fit my 104" scope screen.

Glad you liked it biggrin.gif I really wish more theaters would take that attitude! I rarely get to go to the theater anymore, and it's truly maddening for me when some idiot decides to be selfish and take away from the experience for everyone else.

Craig, not just another semester, but the FINAL semester of course work. All that's left now is a semester of student teaching!

But back on topic, I sat through a Christmas concert at a middle school last night and half the time, the lady in front of me had her iPad raised right in front of me to video! A young son on each side of her were playing games on iPhones. I can't believe I didn't say anything. It's the school I want to work at eventually, so it's best to stay under the radar for now.

Even closer on topic, earlier in the week was our first experience of showing up at a Redbox, that we had made a reservation at, to find the machine broken! We have rented more than 100 times without incident, so still the best option for us. We used to have a 6 mile drive to get to one, now we have a new one about a half mile from the house. That's really handy considering how rural we are.

Can you guys tell I have no movies to discuss? redface.gif

Slow day here too. Ho hum.

Watched Men In Black 3 (2012)
3/5 (amazon 3.9/5, imdb 7.0/10, rotten tomatoes 72%, Decent Films C+)
If you've seen the first two, you'll probably watch this one.
Not as good as the first, debatably better than the second, in any event it's a worthy addition to the franchise.
Where they stuck to rehashing the original's material it worked, some of the new introductions failed.
I wished they'd done more with Alice Eve, and Rip Torn would have helped a lot.
Once again the Barry Sonnenfeld cameo was amusing, if short.
Nothing after the end credits.

Watched The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
4.2/5 (amazon 3.7/5, imdb 8.7/10, rotten tomatoes 92%, Decent Films B+)
Pleasant action movie.
Anne Hathaway's hourglass figure as she walks to the batcycle around 2hours9minutes was impressive.
The ending, and the police constantly bunching up, were both odd.
There were several plot points etc that were odd, but I'm sticking with those two.
Nothing after the end credits.

Anyone else looking forward to Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot on television next year?
Did SHIELD get a green light? I had read about the pitch but never heard anything after that.
Bob, thanks for the Honest Trailers link! I had never seen them before and just blew my gut out watching a half dozen or so!

Tony,
Excellent!! Good for you and good luck with student teaching. If I may ask; what grade level/subject matter are you thinking?
I have a feeling that once you are on-board that you might even be teaching mini-lessons on audience manners and etiquette smile.gif
Gotta love redbox; I can walk to two machines in our neighborhood. And despite RB; I have even started some occasional Vudu HDX streaming.
I've already done one semester of student teaching in 8th grade Science. My second semester will be the same. Wherever I end up, it will be middle school science. And yes, my students will often be reminded of being respectful in their community! I can think of no loftier goal than creating pleasant movie environments for you guys! biggrin.gif
post #7256 of 7630
Excellent! With your proven HT build ability and obvious technical curiosity >> I'm sure you will become a favorite, knowledgeable, and respected science teacher !!
I loved science despite my dislike for the more advanced Math classes. I think the reason was that my science teacher loved what he did (and the Math teacher not-so much smile.gif
