Using Pwerstrip to get resolutions within resolutions

Hi All,
I currently have my HTPC running 800 x 600 to my old and
cranky Davis Powerbeam V DLP projector.
What I would like to do is setup a custom Res to fool
the projector into thinking it is receiving 800x600
while the computer thinks it is running a 800 x 450 Desktop.
(I have a Geforce2 MX. I understand I may have to do 800 x 480)

What I am wanting to do is display DVD's with Power DVD
as you would normally do but I want to force 4:3 images into
a box in the middle of the 16:9 screen (in DVD mode) and
while using DScaler with an external (or internal) video tuner or external DVD player through SVGA.

DScaler is fine - just tell it you have an anamorphic display and it will display 4:3 images with side bars (but
stretches things vertically if running 4:3 resolutions).

The external DVD player will be set to output 16:9
(not letterbox).

I suppose YXY may fit into this somewhere, but I really
just want to keep things simple (K.I.S.S.!).

I have played aroud with Powerstrip 3 but do not have the brain power to figure it out! I have seen custom reolutions
for DILA etc but cannot figure out if that is what I am
trying to acheive, or if it is something completely
different.

Any advise greatfully received!

Currently running PowerDVD 3 latest patch, Windows 98SE,
Nvidia 12.X video drivers, TView PCI TV card, DScaler 2.1.2.
Powerstrip3 beta (only a week old).

Hi Bigted:

___First off, read the following post for what you need to setup to achieve resolutions within resolutions. Next, once you have YXY setup for whatever aspect ratio you are trying to achieve, you only need to run a shortcut key and YXY will go back to that exact setup.

Yes I have read that post, however it focuses on
getting HTPC's to display resolutions for HDTV sets
not LCD/DLP Projectors.

The two approaches are not really the same thing - are they?

Does anyone have some rough Powerstrip timings and
dimensions for my particular situation?

Regards
Steve

Hi Steve:

___The adjustments are done exactly the same. I cannot tell you where you should be for an 800X600 output timing to display a 16:9 DT but an 800X450 should be correct. The GeForce’s do not downconvert very well however. What I do suggest that you do is search the DLP, LCD, D-ILA Projectors forum for those using an HTPC with your FP in particular.
