E50/60/80 recordings played back on HS2/E30/E20

The black level bug in the earlier generations of the Panasonic DVD recorders has been well documented in numerous threads on this forum.

In these threads it was stated that the E20/E30 and HS2 compensated during playback of DVD-R and DVD-RAM recordings to mask the bug.

I'm curious how recordings made in the latest generation recorders (E50/E60 and E80) with the correct black level playback on the earlier units. If the earlier recorders continue to compensate for all DVD-R and DVD-RAM recordings then wouldn't they play back too dark ?

Thanks

DVDs recorded on my E80 play with the proper black level on my HS2. Of course, the HS2 also plays commercial DVDs with the proper black level.

My understanding was that the E20/E30/HS2 only compensated for DVD-R and DVD-RAM (not commercial DVDs).

Does your E80 have the input settings set to "Darker" ?

Yes. A DVD recorded on my E80 plays the same on both the E80 (Output is set to Lighter) and the HS2. But when I want to use my E80 to play a DVD recorded on my HS2, I have to change the Output to Darker.
