Same here, I see no difference on my Mits either.

At the time Comcast did my install they did not have DVI cables.

Has anyone heard an update on when the local system upgrade will be complete???

Apparently, this is required before we can get DVR or Video on Demand which are available in other markets.

I have E* with a PVR 501 plus Comcast. The E* is at the minimum subscription so that we can still have recording (can't live without it).

I plan on canceling E* once Comcast releases DVR but all these delays are making me reconsider another route and canceling Comcast.

I have not heard anything new, but since we were one of the last ones to get "High Speed Internet" upgrade (3Mb) I don't expect it too soon.

Parts of the Superbowl were unwatchable, but I think my experience was local for I have not heard much from anyone else about it.

Aside from that I have been pretty satisfied. Watched all the Daytona 500 in HD and I am not really a race fan. The only other complaint I have is
Comcast getting off their rears and getting WB and KMGH HD.

As for packages I have the digital plus and temporaly HBO for a $1 more. The promo for HBO is about to run out and we won't keep it. With this the HD channels we currently get are Showtime, HBO, KUSA, KCNC, KDVR, KRMA, SZHD, Max, INHD1 & 2 and ESPN.

The guide is ok, but I much prefer Beyond TV's guide on my HTPC.

Thanks for the info Chile. It will help me evaluate my options.

We have DISH now and are thinking about switching to comcast for a cheaper HD and PVR solution (leasing vs. buying + the $400 trade in promotion.) I have some questions for you folks.

What is the best way to get a 6200 or 6208 box? We don't mind adding the external HDD, but we must be able to get PVR. Don't want the 5100, how can we get the one we want for sure?

Is the 6208 box available in Denver now?

Comcast's website is extremely confusing, what exactly do you pay for HD content and what do you get? They have a $56 HDTV package and a $68 silver medal package + $5 for HDTV, what's the difference?

Many thanks to any that can help.

Talked to the folks at Comcast and decided to give it a shot. Requested a 6200, but the CSR had no idea what it meant. I had her make a note that customer wants a 6200 box, but we'll see if that means anything or not.

So how can I tell a 5100 from a 6200 motorola? On the website they looked identical to me. What's the easiest way to tell?

I don't' think the 6208 is available yet.

As far as getting a 6200, I would just demand it from the CSR who signs you up. If they really want you to switch over from Dish they should be able to guarantee it. I don't know if I just got lucky in getting the 6200 or if they have switched to them in the whole Metro.

Trying to figure out the packages is a mess, most CSRs can't even give you straight answer. My cable bill wo internet is approx $55, kinda hard figure from the bill.

I have not seen the 5100 so I am not much help there. The model is on the bottom of my box and I would hope your installer knows the difference.
So doing a little more research on the forum, it seems the 6200 has a DVI output and the 5100 does not. So maybe I just flip the box over and look for a DVI plug?

Since we have DISH right now, pretty much if the installer has a 6200 we switch, if it's a 5100 no dice. Like you say chile, the best chance you've got at getting what you want is before you pay up I've dealt with Comcast before long ago...

I have the MOT 5100, it DOES have a DVI port and it is enabled. It's my understanding that the 6200 series adds a FireWire port.

Do you have firewire ports on the 5100?

No. As I said, I believe that the 6200 series adds the FW port.

Well your quite correct then, my 6200 does have firewire ports. So zot23 you now have an easy way to tell the two apart.

Did I have my settings wrong, or were none of the games during the day today in HD? I missed any evening games (after about 6 pm), but I was surprised that none of the day games were even in 16:9.

First round HD games were scheduled for 3/19 and 3/21. So there weren't any on Saturday.

Has anyone in the downtown Denver area subscribed to VOOM TV. From what I have heard about it you can get every channel plus 30 HDTV channels for only $79.00 a month. But I think you may have to buy a Dish and a hd receiver. I just want to know if anyone has this service and if the PQ is better then comcast. Below is a link to the site.

Anyone having any service problems w/Comcast since the NAS-DAC conversion? They were supposedly completing the work on Wed 3/24. (I had signed on as new customer on 3/17). Since then -

1. 3/17 - No digital channels the first few days (HD and analog worked). Tech checked signal strength (good) and redid a few connectors / splitters.

2. 3/19 - Downgraded my box to regular digital until the 'upgrade' was complete

3. 3/25 - Upgraded back to DCT6200 box. Now the on-screen-guide lists all as "to be announced". And HBO on 14 and 551 have dropped out - "This channel will be available in 5 minutes" yeah right..

4. 3/25 - Called Comcast again....the 6200 won't accept a signal over the line from the Customer Serv rep, so they need to send out a tech (AGAIN!)

They are chalking up all these 'quirks' to the upgrade. I'm so glad I could be their test case....

Wondering if anyone else is having these problems or is it me?!? I'm in eastern Boulder County. My TV is Sammy HLN507W, using component connection.

Satellite is starting to sound appealing..

Thanks in advance....looking forward to participating on this forum, just discovered in the last couple of days...

No problems in Highlands Ranch, but I am not aware if the conversion took place in this area. I did notice about that time (3/24) that I now get a lot more digital cable channels than I did previously, but mostly stuff I don't really watch - a lot of Spanish channels, a few more music channels, etc. I have a 5100.

Since I'm posting, has anyone heard any rumors about new HD channels? Here are the ones that I'd like to see:

KWGN/WB
TNT, when it becomes available in May
Discovery HD
KMGH/ABC (maybe the new Lookout Mountain issues will prompt them to get more serious in discussions with Comcast)

I know there are other HD channels out there, but these would be tops on my list.

Thanks for the info, gakon.

I noticed some new channels also...and some appeared to have moved around (comparing with the channel lineup on the Comcast website).

Anyone have a good source (online or homemade) of the Denver-area Comcast channel guide, including analog, Digital (I have D. Silver Classic), and HD channels? Other than the on-screen guide of course :-)

thanks,

Ken

I have another question for you all, how does the 5100/6200 handle mixed channel stretching (between 16:9 HD and 4:3 SD?)

My Mitsubishi RPTV has a standard mode and a stretched mode (that we prefer for 4:3 material.) Does the comcast box add side bars to the 4:3 channels or does it output both in native format and let the TV sort it out?

Thanks...

I've found setting the 4:3 Override to OFF on the 6200 setup menu works best on my Samsung DLP. That way channels that are broadcasting in 16:9 are set properly, and then commercials or non-HD content channels go back to 4:3 automatically, the TV does the work (I think).

If I set the 4:3 override to 480p, then I'm doing the switching myself. I don't see any noticeable loss in quality using either setting. 480i doesn't work on my Samsung, it gets garbled.

To get to the setup menu (at least on the 6200): Turn the STB off, then hit the MENU button.

Cheers,
Ken

Unfortunately, the better guide is probably Comcast's own guide, but you have to have Comcast HSI to get it. Outside of that Titian TV is pretty good.

HSI = High-speed internet? I have that from Comcast too. Is there a specific place / method to get the guide? (my onscreen guide is supposed to be fixed today, likely with a replacement 6200.)

Thanks!!

Correct Ken, the link is at the bottom of comcast.net home page of coarse you have to be logged in to use it.

The Comcast HSI guide is taken from zap2it.com. The actual Zap2it guide has more options than the Comcast guide. I use it and it seems to be accurate most of the time.

I hope I am staying within AVS guidelines with this post. I have the item listed in my sig available for local Denver pickup. I didn't want to list it in the main classifieds section because it is too large/heavy to ship.

If anyone is interested, please feel free to email me at lamouria@mscd.edu

If listing an item in this way is inappropriate, please let me know and I will delete it. TIA!

Has anyone had any luck asking for a firewire equipped HDTV STB? According to an FCC regulation, they have to provide one to folks starting 1 April.

I called twice yesterday and the first time the CSR didn't know anything and I didn't have the FCC regulation to back up my request. I then called again and read the section to them. After first being told they knew nothing about it, they then said they were going to replace 5100 boxes with 6200 boxes.

Am I getting smoke blown at me? Does anyone else know anything about this?

Thanks in advance.
A lot of people already have the 6200 boxes. I wanted to upgrade a couple of months ago, but they wouldn't guarantee that they could do it, and when the tech came out she did not have a properly coded 6200 for my area. In my case, I only wanted the DVI output, and a firmware upgrade enabled the DVI on my 5100, so I haven't pursued it. I'll probably wait for the 6208's. You could probably just push them to replace your 5100, if you want. Since Comcast still will not let you just go to a customer service center and trade in the box, you'll have to wait for a tech to show up, but given the FCC rule, they probably can no longer tell you that they can't guarantee which box you'll get.

Was anyone watching "Friends" on 653 last night (even though it wasn't in HD)? Toward the beginning of the episode, another program was shown instead for a few seconds - it looked almost like a religious or government program (woman talking emotionally on the screen) - but it was in widescreen and HD. Anyone know what this could have been? It did not appear to be the same as any of the other Comcast HD channels, so is Comcast testing something out, or what?
