Longtime lurker, first time posting...
I have successfully connected the equipment and generated the following signals:
640x480p - Hor scan rate = 34.991, vert = 57.837.
720x480p - Hor scan rate = 33.768, vert = 59.978.
848x480p - Hor scan rate = 33.739, vert = 59.927.
960x480p - Hor scan rate = 31.500, vert = 60.000.
960x540p - Hor scan rate = 33.810, vert = 60.053.
The 640x, 720x, and 848x all fit entirely on screen, but both 960x resolutions have vertical overscan - about half of the title bar is missing at 480p and the entire title bar is missing at 540p. I got the overscan problem under control at hsr ~ 35, vsr ~65 but I didn't like the signal (some warping and flashing going on).
When I try to send a 1920x1080i signal, I get a strange result. The image shows up as two side by side images - i.e., the mouse appears simultaneously in the middle of the screen and at the far left. The image also flickers significantly. It looks like the two interlaced images are being presented at half the screen width, with one on the left and the other on the right.
Other (generally unrelated) observations. There is a streaking of text in the menus and in the onscreen computer display. I noticed it first when I had a web browser upen, but later noticed it in the onscreen menus as well. A blurred white streak stretches out to the right of black text. Very annoying while web browsing.
Questions:
1. Are there other 480p resolution I should try?
2. Should I be concerned that the 480p resolutions look best at a horizontal scanrate that is so far off of the standard 31.5?
3. Does the 1080i problem sound like something you've heard of before? I tried tweaking with powerstrip multiple times but am unable to "merge" the two images.
4. Would this problem be easily solved by a video card upgrade?
