The Velodyne DEQ-15R is very similar to the Velodyne DLS-5000R. Both have 15 inch drivers with 4.4 pound magnets. The slot vented box size is about the same and they are both rated down 3db at 23 Hz.
When Sound&Vision magazine tested the DLS-5000R they liked the sound quality and above about 30 Hz, it had very good output.
Seems to me you would be spending a lot for something (DEQ-15R) that has some good features, like the EQ, but just can't do full justice to the 15Hz-30Hz octave.
The focus of the design of the Empire and HSU are more about achieving high basic performance and less on things like built-in EQ.
