I plugged in a smaller sub, and everything worked fine, therefore leaving the HGS-15 as the problem. I tried to contact Velodyne, but no-one ever replied to my email, so I essentially gave up. Today, I decided to try again, and found this support forum. Can this sub still be re-paired? I suspect it's the PCB, but just a guess since I haven't messed with it in about a year (when it went out).

My Thanks,

Hello Dan
Yes we can still repair your HGS15 amp. Please fill out and email or fax back the attached RMA form so we can get the repair process started.

This page indicates that it doesn't (removable grill info also incorrect so I wouldn't be surprised if other info is wrong here):

However this page indicates that it does:

Hello Kevin
All EQ max modes come with the auto-on feature and removable grills. we will correct the web page http://velodyne.com/eq-max-15.html

I am looking for a sub for my AV system and I was looking at the VX-11 or Impact 10. Both subs fit in my budget and I was wondering which would be better for movies. I am unable to hear both subs because the dealer in my area don't carry both.p.s.

I have a Dennon avr-1610 and a set to Energy Take 5 classics in a room that is 12 x 12 with an 8 ft opening to another room.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

If you can't help[ reccomend one, maybe you can tell me the differences between the two.

Thanks Robert

Hi Pete - I was fairly certain the information in the second link was correct, thanks for confirming! I'm hoping to pick one up tomorrow if it's in stock

Hello Robert
The Impact 10 would give you more bass output.
The main differences between the Impact10 and the VX11 are:

1. The amp is more powerful 250W vs. 150W
2. Downward firing port for more bass out than the rear slot design
3. The cabinet dimensions are smaller H13.6 W12.6 D14.9 vs. H15 W12 D17

Hi, I have a problem. The internal IR receiver of my DD subwoofer is defective. Now I'd like to use the external IR receiver. Tried a mono 1 pin receiver, but it doesn't work. What kind of receiver should I use, two pin or three pin? Are there any brands or type I should use? Would this work:

I bought this DD12 second hand and apparently it had been repaired before by someone.

This reply from Rob helped me out:

Commonly the remote eye is mistakenly connected to the J21 connector located near the XLR jacks, on the DD10 and DD12 there should be nothing connected to J21. The remote sensor should be connected to the J9 terminal. J9 may have either 3 pins or 5 pins, if 5 pins are present you should connect to the top three pins as indicated on the attached diagram.

It functions perfectly now. Thanks for the quick and correct support.

I currently own two older Velodyne Subs, the SPL1200 and SPL 1200 Series II. I am considering eliminating the built in amplifiers on these subs and powering them with a SAMSON SX1800 amplifier. Does anyone here (or Velodyne) sell the passive plates used for these subs when sold in the Subcontractor Series? If not, does anyone have any non working amps that they are looking to sell?

I'm considering making these changes because I have had many problems with these amplifiers over the past 18 months. It's either this or an SVS PB13 Ultra, and I don't want to drop $2K for a sub when I love the sound of the Velo's.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I searched "popping" and got about 10 threads on "popping" but none I read addresses what I experience. I have a new DD-15. It makes a slight little sort of pucker "popping" noise when it turns on and off. Works beautifully in between. Mu old DD did this too so I'm not worried but thought I'd check in for confirmation.

Hi there, I have the little brother, the DD12, and it does the same, even when it's "awakened" , think it's quite normal .

For third times the charm, you'll be pleased to know my DD18 also does this. I like it as then I know if I actually turned it off not just missed the IR receiver with the remote and left it in its idle standby state. I wonder if it chews more power on idle standby compared to power off standby. . . hmm..

Thanks Neilsy...I think we now have a trend.

hi glashub, I'm using a different sub but also got the same popping sound especially during first use. According to the supplier, it is due to the sudden surge of power to the capacitor so best to leave the setting to "auto" and keep the sub turned on

My Velodyne FSR-12 purchased 5/97 no longer works and I was told by Velodyne product support that they no longer replace the board assembly.

They sent me the specs but I have no skills repairing at a component level and don't want to give an open check repair job to some shop since the unit is so old.

Any ideas on what I could do? Junk it? Would someone value the parts?

Thanks.

I'm trying to decide between 4 Velodyne subs and could really use some advice:

Impact Mini
Impact 10
DLS3750
DEQ 8R

The DLS3750 is my favorite, in terms of musicality, presence, impact, etc. However, it's probably a bit too big for my room. I was hoping it would be closer in size to the Impact 10, but it's much bigger.

The Impact 10 seems a bit dull compared to the DLS3750 both with movies and music; the Impact Mini, has a lot of "rumble" for home theater - especially for it's size, but it's a tad muddy, isn't particularly tight, lacks musicality, and seems really low in volume (I have to keep it almost all the way up). The DEQ 8 seems more musical, and is certainly more flexible due to the EQ and preset settings, but, again, doesn't have the tightness and presence of the DLS3750.

I'd really appreciate some opinions/advice on which of these to keep and, if the DLS3750 is too big, which of the others would be the next best option.

Many thanks,

John

I'm sure it can be repaired for something reasonable. I'd take it to a shop and ask them to set a cap on time invested in figuring out what's wrong. I think a good tech can give a ball park answer ones they have a good look at it in person and have the schematics. Good luck!!!

Hello
Velodyne does not make a passive plate for any of our subwoofers. WHat the problems with the units and did we do the repairs?

I have 2003 DD-10 which is quite dead at the moment. Previous owner says that the acceleration sensor (not sure about the exact terminology)attached to the cone once fell off and was glued back in a repair shop. Everything was ok after this for awhile but then problems began to pile up. There was some small buzzing noise and the inrush current at startup seemed to be quite high (frequent triggering of automated fuses in the power outlet). Quite soon after that nothing. Nada. Previous owner has tried to fix the amp board by himself which didn't help too much Anyway I tried that 9V battery test connecting the speaker to a battery. It does make a click once connected. I'm not sure if you meant it should be continuous clicking sound or just one click? Does this mean the problem lies most likely in the amp?

Best regards,
Toni from Finland

Hello Toni
The battery test tells us that the voice coil is intact and able to pass signal so yes the amp sould be the problem

Yeah...I talked to them today and they basically said that beyond power supply issues they can't help me and I'll have to order a amp plate for a nice sum of 825 (1100 $). So that's quite out of the question. I do believe that if you can fix and it's worth while, you really should. So...will you fix my amp? I believe this is an expert job and local dealers shouldn't even try fixing it. Glad they don't.
