Does preset 6 also cancels out to any changes made in the Systems Setting menu? Or just the EQ?

Preset 6 "EQ defeat" will disable the equalization only. Any customization to the presets volume, contour frequency, etc will remain.

Rob thanks for the response. Although after several hours of playing with the SMS-1. My system improved a lot. But the part I still don't understand yet is knowing when to change the Q values. When moving channels and decreasing or increasing each one of them. And I didn't do much with the EQ cause I didn't want to do something that I'm ending up with stacking. Anyway here's what I got so far starting from channel 1-8 (L,FQ)..
Channel 1- 0.0, 20, 4.3
2- +1.0, 25, 4.3
3- +1.0, 32, 4.3
4- +1.0, 40, 4.3
5- +1.0, 50, 4.3
6- -12.0, 70, 3.6
7- -1.0, 84, 4.3
8- 0.0, 100, 4.3

The Q factor effects the precision of the filter. Each EQ point, or filter, effects not just that precise frequency but those on either side as well. A finer Q filter will reduce how many other frequencies are effected by an EQ point adjustment. If you adjust an EQ point and you see changes in other locations on your response graph that are not desirable, try adjusting the Q factor. As always experimentation will yield the best results. If you find a frequency that is a real trouble spot, you may need to try relocating the subwoofer within the room to see if that makes a difference.

Is higher Q factor results in a narrow range in frequency? And a lower becomes wider? Or is it the opposite?

The higher the number the more precise the filter is.

My end results with my dual sub setup. Any opinions or tips or recommendations?

Dear Rob Morse,
May I seek your help in finding a replacement plate amp for Velodyne SPL-1200 MK2????Apparently its 'output stage' is short out & cannot be repaired. May I know the total cost including transport charges to Malaysia??? Voltage use over here is 220V.

Your kind help & advice is highly appreciated. Thank you very much & have a very nice day!

30Hz-100Hz looks good. What is the bottom end response of the subwoofers you are using?

Rob.. I left the bottom end at default. Don't really know how low my 2 subs will go (super cube reference). I'm thinking of adding 2 more to my setup for a total of 4 subs.

That could be quite impressive. I do not believe my wife would ever let me go beyond the two DDplus subs in my living room....my son has enough problems falling asleep at night with his wall shaking.

I'd work on getting your subs to go deeper than they are currently before adding 2 more if it were me. if they can't go deeper, I would replace them with something more capable instead of adding 2 more devices which aren't performing when it comes to the truly low stuff, but that's just me.

Yea I know.. Not to many options here in Hawaii especially when it comes to the shipping part. I wanted to go with dual pb 13 ultras instead. But shipping to Hawaii is ridiculous. So I opt for the reference instead which was shipped to me free through Magnolia. But I'm also thinking of saving up for next year when I redo my whole setup with 2 JTR S2. But don't know what the shipping will be for those..

Items for sale on the Velodyne website are available with basic shipping to Hawaii with no shipping charges.

Hi Rob,
thanks for your reply. I understand that it is not easy to try a bug-search without sitting in front of the equipment, therefore another big thank you for trying! Here are my answers to your questions:

How is your subwoofer connected (LFE/Speaker wire)?
I use the secondary L&R Channel RCA Outputs from my preamp (Krell Showcase Processor)

Are your mains speakers set to small or large?
Mains are set to large (B&W 801)

What is your crossover point set in the receiver and the subwoofer?
80Hz

What is the subsonic filter set at in the subwoofer?
?

What volume is the subwoofer typically set at?
7-11

What is the LFE gain setting in the processor?
0db

What type of music are you listening too when you notice the problem?
e.g. Bob James - Joyride, Yello - Touch, music which has some real deep-bass content

Is it repeatable?
yes/no: it repeats itself, but i am not 100% shure if the "strange" sounds come at the exact same time

If the source is connected directly to the subwoofer, eliminating the rest of the system, does the issue persist?
Have not tried that. But I have not changed anything (hardware or software-settings) in my system setup for many months and suddenly the noise is there.

Hey Rob,
Wanted to let you know that I received the repaired amp pack, installed it, and it work's perfectly. Thx for your support here on AVS.
I'm embarrassed to admit I'm now thinking that the sub has been out for some time - maybe a year or more!!! See, I've got big LCR speakers that can do 40 Hz, but with the sub working properly, I now realize what I've been missing. If it wasn't for a dealer who was setting up my new speakers in my listening room and wanted to check out my theater and mentions that the sub was not set properly, I'd still probably be without a working sub.

Hello Velodyne gurus!

I have recently acquired an Servo FSX-12 Velodyne sub, model # FSX12BV11 with a build date of 01-10-05. I acquired it with issues... It's never worked for me. Power button does not light but I hear a little pumping noise if I turn the unit on and off. I plugged it up yesterday and it worked for 45 seconds or so before going silent. I felt the woofer vibrating, though I didn't get much volume out of the unit before it went dead again. Subsequent tried to power it up failed. Any ideas?

I have another F Series 12" with a build date of 1997... that works flawlessly.

I understand that you have not changed anything, but that would include the subwoofer. The best way to rule out all possibilities except for a problem with the subwoofer is to perform this test. If the problem does persist then the first place we would look is in the electronics pack.

Glad to hear all is well and the system is back up and running.

If you remove the grille, and power the unit on without any inputs connected does the driver move, thump, or breath?
Thanks Rob. Yesterday, after the sub sat unused or connected for over a week, it pumped with input for a good 15 seconds before dying. Thinking it might be a faulty switch or control, I turned things on and off quite a bit trying to replicate the 'life' and movement that came from the sub but it never re-activated.

Today, I disconnected input cables and watched the sub as I plugged it in and turned it on. All I heard was a very faint click each time I turned it on and off and I sensed a very faint hum in the unit when on. There was no woofer movement that I could see or feel.

When it "pumped" was the driver moving to near max excursion?

We have been in contact with the new distributor in Singapore and they have agreed to take care of the customers under warranty and Velodyne will supply them with parts. Please contact them again and let me know if there are any issues.

When it did work the other day for a brief time, I had a source plugged into it. I reached down and felt the speaker vibrating and heard a bit of low frequency sound The volume control didn't really kick into high gear when turned. After approx. 15 seconds it went silent. I could not get it to make a sound yesterday, other than hearing a very tiny pop on and off when I flipped the power switch on and off.

Its sounding like the issue could be just with the electronics section of the unit. This can be serviced by any local stereo repair shop. If they need schematics we can provide them electronically.
Schematics would be welcomed. Thanks for your help.
