I went ahead and took the deal, but the pricing ended up being more than the $199. It seems the "Signature" programing is not all the channels I had with the "All the Best" package I had before. I still had to add additional packages to keep what I have now. Over all, the deal saved me $6.00 per month. I did pick up the whole house dvr's and top tier Internet service. My phone added in the Voicemail, which was no big deal to me. They told me after one year, the price will go up $15, and another $15 the year after that.
The appointment is exact, they said 1:00 and the installer will be there a 1, no more 4 hour time window. That was nice. He was on time, and spent about 4 hours switching everything over, and testing. One DVR box was bad, and he called another installer in the area who dropped off another one. He was very nice and never rushed, asking me several times if I had questions. He programmed my other devises into the remotes, so all my equipment worked fine.
I've had the service now for a few days, and I am not too thrilled with it. First, the Navigator program guide is so hard to figure out, and so busy, it's hard to read. Getting in an out of On Demand services is not very smooth. There's nothing as simple as pressing channel 1 any longer or Exit. It's Press A for this, Press C for that or Press B for search. There's no clear way to exit out. I can usually figure most of this stuff out, but this still has me stumped, let alone explain it to other family members.
The Whole house dvr's seem fine. I can watch my shows on any box in the house, including a non recording box in the bedroom. I was happy with that.
The Internet promised 50mpbs, up from the 15 mpbs I had before. I still haven't seen speeds beyond 29 mpbs by checking various web speed tests at different times. The speed upgrade on my pc is not that noticeable. My wife's computer, 10 feet from the wireless router, still buffers when she's watching a video on YouTube. The built in router in the modem is horrible. I start to walk downstairs, and my connection drops from Good to Fair. Once downstairs, with an open floor plan in my home, and I'm down to a very weak connection. Even the installer saw it on his phone and just suggested I use my old router. He was going to check on this, but I haven't heard back. This won't make for a good experience with Netflix if I can't take advantage of the faster internet service if the router has a weak connection downstairs. I haven't tested it yet. I liked the idea of an integrated modem/router, but this doesn't seem to work the best.
The service promises Smartphone dvr programming, but most times away from home, I haven't been able to connect to the service. I did manage, once, to remotely program a series recording, but it took a few tries and very slow connection once I did connect. I have an HTC EVO 4G phone, so it should handle it alright.
I'll play with it another day or two before calling them back out. I just expected more, but it's letting me down right now.
