Cincinnati, OH - HDTV - Page 424

something was wrong this AM. They were off the HD channel on Time Warner in Middletown. Analog OK. When I got to work, re-scanned and WKRC and the CW appeared at 12.3 and 12.4 instead of 12.1 and 12.2. Now all is OK. It was like their PSIP generator took a dump.

I'm on TWC on the Amelia head end (former Adelphia) and they were missing yesterday morning, but came back sometime between 7:30 and 8am. Analog was fine.

W36DG got an extension for their flash cut. It was supposed to expire this Monday (4/19/2010), but they got an extension to 4/13/2013. So we may not see Daystar for a while.

According to the FCC database, there are currently five entries for WBQC and WOTH:
  • WBQC LD - digital - licensed - channel 47
  • WOTH-LP - analog - construction permit - channel 19
  • WOTH-LD - digital - construction permit - channel 20
  • WOTH-LP - analog - licensed - channel 25
  • WOTH-CA - analog - licensed - channel 38
Did WOTH and WBQC switch call letters for channel 47 (virtual channel 25)? That would explain why the PSIP name for Universal Sports on 25.2 is WBQC-LD.

You figured it out, you win the call letter shift prize! FYI, I was at the NAB last week and talked to the antenna manfacture for ch 36's antenna, SWR, it's currently being built.
Also was shopping for ch 20's equipment, it will be operational by late summer.

Do I get a cameo on Friday Night Fu when it comes back?

This is great news Elliott. Thanks for keeping us in the loop! I would assume that the work on channel 20 (the current WOTH) would coincide with the work on WCPO transitioning from RF 10 to RF 22 since they're on the same tower and there would have to be emissions mask matching and testing since they're two channels away from each other.

P.S. I amazed one of my friends by bringing up WKRP Saturday night on his over-the-air TV. We even watched part of the 2009 Boston Marathon on Universal Sports. "What sports?" "Universal Sports!"
I'll say it again I am thrilled to have Universal Sports and even happier it's not on WLWT taking away from the HD bandwidth.

So Ive been reading through the forum and haven't seen anything lately about this. Sorry if I missed it. But will we EVER get CW in HD??? It drives me crazy and I cannot get the Dayton station either!

Not unless a different station gets the CW affiliation. As long as it's on a subchannel HD is unlikely (and undesirable for quality concerns). I do get WBDT from Dayton OTA just fine; where are you located?

Western Hills. I have time Warner. I guess I would have to buy an antenna for the roof right? Maybe the attic?

Roof for any chance from there most likely...

Looks like WLWT is having issues with their WeatherPlus equipment or software... they do at least have the radar image with NOAA/NWS audio feed though.
Does anyone know why I can't get the HD channels without my box anymore? I use to get 5-1, 9-1, etc. on my TV directly connected to cable (without a box). These channels no longer come in. I have Time Warner in Cincinnati.
Talked to Time Warner... they say they "moved" the channels to the Digital Variety Package and there is no way to get them without a box anymore. I think what they meant to say is they REmoved the channels because they have always been available with the Digital Variety Package.

Yet another ploy by Time Warner to take more of our money by requiring us to "rent" more boxes and remotes. Similar to them lowering the bandwidth on their RoadRunner, requiring customers to upgrade (pay more) to get the same speed.

I have about had it with Time Warner. I may have to take jimp244's advice and drop pay-TV. The only problem is I need HDMI in order to run my DLP projector. It doesn't have any kind of tuner.

I have a couple of LG tuners I bought, one about 3 years or so ago and another about a year ago. Both from ebay. They have DVI out but you can use a DVI>HDMI cable and just run a seperate audio to your sound system.

Problem solved.

letzleta,

Have your TV rescan digital cable channels. What TWC did was move the channels from QAM 84,85 & 86 to QAM 75,76 & 78. Your TV should find them again at the new location with a rescan. They are still unencrypted (per FCC mandate) so you should not need a cable box to get them.

Since all of these moves, my reception of the encrypted HD channels, especially those on switched digital video, has been horrible. Audio dropouts, random picture freezes and pixelization. TWC has been out multiple times and been unable to correct. They claim I am an isolated case but I suspect not.

WLWT Weather Plus was back to normal when I checked last night a bit before 11pm.
I rescaned and still cannot find local HD channels. I don't believe I ever had them in the80's, they were 5-1, 9-1, 12-1, etc. I did the scan twice to make sure I didn't miss anything and went through all the channels.

Did you just use the channel button to re-scan for the missing channels ? If you did this is not what a re-scan is. The first time you turned the tv on it scan for your channels. Go in the menu and find the section to re-scan for channels.

Sorry your rescan was not successful. These channels are still unencrypted and a QAM tuner should be able to find them. Are you sure you are scanning digital cable and not broadcast (possibly called air or antenna) ? As dtv_insider clarified, this scan needs to be initiated from your TV's Menu or Setup function. Do you still get WSTR (64.1) and the range of ThinkTV (16.n) channels ? They were not moved and remain on QAM 102.

The channels that your TV shows you are remapped from the actual QAM channel for simplicity. If you had WLWT-HD previously, your TVs QAM tuner was finding it on 84.1 but showing it as 5.1 to match the channel identifier that has been associated with WLWT forever.

The new location for WLWT-HD on TWC is now QAM 75.1 but it will still show in the channel list as 5.1. Most QAM tuners do not show the actual channel, only the remapped virtual channel. I get actual channel information from software that uses a QAM tuner in my PC.

Unless you have a notch filter that would be blocking QAM channels 75-78 a tuner that picked them up on the old channels should be able to find them at the new locations. If rescan still misses these channels, does your TV allow you to manually add channels ?

I have been experiencing the same problems with my reception on TWC HD channels 1003 (WXIX) and 1009 (WCPO) for the past 2 nights. I've had intermittent pixelization, audio dropouts and frozen video.

I tightened the cable connections this morning, just to make sure. I called TWC and they said that my neighborhood has problems with low reception onto its cable boxes. I'll continue to wait and see.

Out of the Amelia HE we lost WCPO HD. WLWTHD, WXIXHD, WKRCHD, WCETHD, etc... all come in fine, but WCPO HD is not. At least as of this time yesterday. I have to rescan again I suppose as channels were still being swapped around all day yesterday. There are channels available today, that were not available yesterday.

Hmm, all is well in QAMland here on the west side of Fairfield. For now anyways...

Which reminds me! It appears CBell's Fioptics is just around the corner here and I was wondering if that would make my Hauppauge 2250 recording of network HD shows history? In other words, there's no such thing as QAM on their TV system is there?

I get a remapped 9-1, 720p, right now the program is TV-14 but the channel is encrypted my set says.

Personally I really don't care since I use OTA for everything, I just thought I would mention it is all.

Yea, this worries me since I rely on QAM to record certain things even though I use Daytons OTA channels for stuff I watch live.
Why does this worry you? Do you not get WCPO HD from the Amelia HE?

No, I did a re-scan from the menu. I am fairly tech savy, being a programmer for a living. My dad however, had no idea how to do a scan on his TV, LOL.
