Tuning the Mits WS48413...

Out of the box this set looks awesome. There is some overscan and the contrast/brightness etc. were off, but easily tweaked.

Any suggestions on how to fix the overscan? What are the codes? I promise I will write my original values and won't blame anyone for my screw ups :D

Thanks in advance

The codes are 0357 and 0359 to get into the service menu.

Kipp, I got into it. Is there any place I can research what/how I can go about adjusting the overscan?

Mits has two geometry memories, 480i/480p/960i and 540p/1080i/VGA640x480

How do you guys like your Mitsu's. I just ordered a WS-55413 and will pick it up tomorrow morning. I couldn't make up my mind a 55 or 65. So since i have a PJ for nighttime viewing i figured the 55 would suffice.

Marc,
thanks for the simple details. It can be oversimplified sometimes. Good job.

NO1B4ME,
I love my 55613, so does my wife. Let us know how you like yours.

Marc,

Being some what slow (my first rear projection set) I have a question regarding overscan. I see how HWID and VHGT adjusts the image size via the service menu and since this adjusts only Green how do I go about re-aligning Red and Blue? Is it simply done via the user menu Convergence or does it have to be addressed via the service menu.

I could be wrong that Red and Blue doesn't follow Green but when I adjusted HWID I could see it leaving both behind within the service menu. I'm also presuming I would use geometry if I needed to straighten up the lines after adjusting the overscan.

Thanks for your help.

If I may answer, yes, you need to adjust the red and blue in the convergence user menu.

Red and Blue will follow the green adjustments, so you reconverging will not be as difficult as you may think.

I checked my overscan last night on my new 55413 and the vert. was 5% and the Horz. was about 7%.

If I change my overscan in the service mode will I have to mess with geometry or will the user 64 point be good enough ?

Thanks
Dan

This is why you need to be prepared to tweak geometry if you mess with overscan.

Dan,

My 55413 has just about the same amount of overscan as did the 48413 I swapped. I'm used to playing around with direct view sets and digital projectors that do all of the work for you (keeping the "guns" aligned).

From the playing around I did with the 55413 it appears the further you alter overscan the more likely you will need to correct geometry (I'm presuming only green) as Marc says Red and Blue will follow or can be adjusted via convergence.

I think it's more of an art than science as I'm sure the geometry isn't perfect right now. So if you are comfortable knowing you "messed" it up for the better or worse go for it. You can always Press - Menu - 1 - 2 - 3 and go back to Kansas.

What/where is Kansas?
Sorry, it was a reference to Dorothy in the Wizard of OZ... click your heels three times and say there is no place like home... and you will be back in Kansas. The sequence restores the set to the factory defaults.

Thanks for the replies Guys
