We don't have a thread for Charter so I'll ask this here. Charter in Newtown has added a few HD channels recently and I was wondering if they upgraded there system for more bandwith or are compresssing more. Added YesHD today. Any way to find out what the bandwith of their system is?

Why don't you call them up and ask for the tech dept. Most techs love to talk about that kind of stuff.

Anyone re-experiencing audio drop outs on WFSB-DT? Looks to be same problem that occurred a couple months back. Sent an email to WFSB engineering (wfsbengineering@wfsb.com) and haven't had a response.
Yea I'm having the dropouts also.
Is anybody still having audio dropouts on WFSB HD ?
Oh yes, big time yesterday in the Masters coverage, then later also into the evening. I have no STB, by the way. I am in Clinton.

Don't know if those of you who have the D* HR10-250 have noticed this, but all of a sudden this weekend, I've started receiving both the NY Local Channels (2,4,5 & 7) along with the East Coast National Feeds (380's). I immediately placed a call to D* HD Support to question why I can receive the East Coast National SD Feeds but not the East Coast National HD Feeds. Got the usual run-around, but had them submit a new set of waivers to see if anything's changed.

As an aside, the HD Rep stated that HD Locals were coming to CT in June which is also their scheduled release date of their HD DVR.

You are getting wabc? I thought it was supposed to be 2,4, and 5 only.

You're right - only 2,4 & 5. Some reason, I thought I was getting 7 as well, but no go. Weird that they would give us NY CBS, Fox & NBC but not NY ABC.

Yes, it is weird. Those are the "significantly viewed channels" in New Haven county.
I just don't get it about the HD Feeds in Connecticut. Why would D* not enable those?
Hard to tell. As I've said, it's pretty baffling that they would enable us to get the NY National SD feeds, but not the HD feeds. I got the old CSR dance when I called D*, they had no answer other than the standard "you have to submit waivers, blah, blah, blah"

Stu - Are 2, 4 & 5 showing up as such in your guide, or up in the 380s? I have the HR10-250 as well, but noticed several days ago that I was now getting CBS and NBC from Providence (ch 10 & 12). Just checked the 380s and I'm not getting either East coast or West coast feeds. Thanks.

Channels 10 and 12 from Providence are not in the 380's, but 2, 4 and 5 are. You are not eligible to get 2, 4 or 5, just what is considered "significantly viewed" in your area.

Thanks Chip. So if I've got this straight, since you and Stu are in central/western CT, you're getting the NY locals, and I'm getting Providence locals because I'm in SE CT, correct?

New to off air and having fun. Anyway tuned CH 61 just before 8 PM for AM Idol and found black and no sound. Plenty of signal. At 8 PM Idol started. Is this normal for 61? Don't they do digital when there's no HDTV? Just wondering.

Ross,

Just as an FYI, not only are we getting the NY Locals (2,4,5) but also the East Coast National Feeds (380+). It's kinda weird as now when I look to Tivo a show, I've got 4 sources (NY local, CT local, East Coast National & Off-air antenna).

No, it's not normal. The national feed seemed okay, but the WTIC local was missing.

Thanks Chip & Stu - now if only if these new channels were in HD!

I just tried your link and entered my New Britain zip code of 06052. Nothing came up at all. Wouldn't Springfield, MA be the obvious adjoining market in this case?

For some reason Hartford county wasn't included in this. I have no idea why.

Checked for the NY channels last night and I'm showing 2, 4, and 5 from NY as well as the same channels in the 380's. All are coming in here in Killingworth. The Direct web link above shows that I should get Fox 5 only. Hope this NY stations don't disappear as fast as they came.

I actually forgot to check the HD versions, so I'll do that tonight. One can hope.

Chris

Edit 4-14-06: No New York HD at m locaion - oh well!

I live in the Enfield area and get the following

channel 3 76%_ 92%
8 65%-68%
20 65%-67%
30 90%
22 90%
61 75%-90%
also get channel 24 and 59 analog not in digital HMM!

Lowes and HomeDepot have some of the bigger (huge) antennas RCA and CM.
There is the Signal Electronics in West Hartford, but sales are final and if it does not work for you, you are stuck with it.

I have picked up weaker signals on WFSB(33), WTIC(31) and a couple of others.

Now I'm looking to buy a better antenna. I live in an apartment (on the 12th floor, in downtown Meriden), but think I could put an outdoor antenna on my balcony. I hoping someone can recommend a reputable dealer that I can get good advice from before I buy. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

The last thing I heard was from Jerry Franklin, the CPTV general manager. They are still fighting with WABC for the use of digital channel 45. WABC already has it and doesn't want CPTV to use it, claiming that it would interfere with their signal. The FCC hasn't yet decided if CPTV will get to use 45 or have to go with another channel. Until then, the antenna can't be set up.

Hi! This post is a bear! 138 pages...WTF. How is a newbie supposed to find any thing specific to their market? Anyway...enough of that....

I'm in Old Saybrook, CT and I'm trying to figure out what type of antenna I'll need to get all of the locals in HD. I am really looking someone who's nearby and has had success. Thanks, much!
