SA8000 no 30s skip ahead  

You will never see a 30 sec skip on any PVR again. Hollywood has pressured the manufacturers to remove it.

I don't miss having 30 second skip or Commercial Advance; i've gotten used to FastForwarding at triple speed and watching closely for the show to resume then quickly hit play whereupon it skips back about 10 seconds to the break between commercial and program resumption. It's almost like a game to get it just right :-)

I'm concerned that the increased popularity of DVRs in general (SA8000, Tivo, Replay, etc) might eventually cause Hollywood to re-evaluate how commercials are shown. If they think too many people are FFing through commercial breaks they might start running ads in a streamer along the bottom while the show is on and do away with commercial breaks altogether. Wouldn't that suck.

Keep in mind that cable companies sell advertising to local companies -- the 30 second skip feature would be detrimental to their own business.
