i have comcast, and am quite pleased with the HD quality and offering, but it is getting pricey. my set-up is in the basement, fully below grade, so i had no luck with a indoor antenna, and don't really feel like hassling with installing an outdoor antenna.
is anyone here really high on DirecTV or Dish Network? either quality of broadcast, quality of selection, future promises for more channels, etc.?
I had had DirecTV since November 1995, when I decided to switch to DISH a few months ago. The biggest reason being is that they own the rights to the VOOM network HD channels. DirecTV has alot lot less HD channels. I switched in September.
These are some of the differences I have noticed:
*DISH has a few more channels overall.
*The regional sports pack costs half as much on DISH as it does on DirecTV.
*The SD DISH receiver (DISH 322) has two tuners(one IR remote and one RF remote), so I can watch stuff in my detached garage while I'm out there (I have a cable also running out there). Very reliable receiver.
*The HD DISH receiver (VIP 211) is very user friendly, BUT I'm on my second one since September!! It had the HDMI output go kaput. They did get me a new one through second day air.
*The 2 SD receivers I had for DirecTV were pretty rock solid ( D11's).
My service never goes away for either company (unless there is a bad thunderstorm).
I have never tried Comcast in my area, because of their terrible service outage history where I live.
I would say that the SD picture quality between the two is about the same. I CANNOT evaluate DirecTV HD service as I never saw their HD programming on my TV.
NEITHER service offers locals in HD right now, so I do have an OTA pointed toward South Bend.
These are the channels I get right now through the package I have:http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/p...ld/index.shtml
I don't know what Comcast offers as far as prices, but I pay about $80 monthly (this includes an additional receiver fee). This is 10 dollars more than I was paying for DirecTV, but I also added the HD channels with DISH Network.
I hope this info helps you.
