Well, I am going to host an open house event and we will have a blind test on speaker cables and interconnects. If anybody who frequents this forum wants to make the trek down to Selma (just outside of Fresno) just drop me a line.
I posted the main link in the area home theater meets, but I wanted to post here as well to make sure everyone from the Fresno area heard about it.
Location: Selma, CA
Date: Saturday, Novemeber 13th
Time: 6:00pm to 11:00pm (cable test will be about 1 hour during the party)
The test will use the following:
Processor: Lexicon MC-12B V4
Speakers: Genesis 6.1
Speaker Cables: Straight Wire Virtuoso vs. 12 Guage generic speaker wire
Balanced Interconnects: Straight Wire Encore II vs. A generic cable purchased from the local pro-audio shop
I will try and secure some other really high end cables/interconnects to add to the shootout. Perhaps something from Transparent and/or MIT.
I will also look into putting in an Adcom GFP-750 preamp for this test. The Adcom actually got an "A" recommendation from stereophile long ago and one of the reviewers said it was the best he heard at any price, so I need to see if it sounds cleaner than the Lexicon and if so, use it for the test.
I had about 15 people at the last open house I hosted, so I will bring in a temporary second row seating platform in the living room for the audio test. Here is the link to the invitation thread in the Area Home Theater Meets forum.
If anybody wants to come out, let me know. Also, I am open to suggestions for what else I should add in for comparisons. I don't want the cable test to take too long, but I want to make sure that we cover enough items to make the majority of people satisfied that if we don't find a difference, it wasn't for a lack of trying.
