I'm curious about your setup also. Maybe you could fill us in on the details such are screen dimensions, seating distance and projector distance.
The X1 is about 15 feet from the screen and mounted on the ceiling. We sit at about 8 feet from it. Bought a wireless power outlet with the control board from Radio-Shack for $30 so I can turn on/off the projector remotely. While at it, I also got some wireless outlets for the torchiere lights for $15. I can dim the lights remotely theatre-style. :)
I used the throw-distance calculator from the Infocus site to determine where to install the projector. My target image size was 95". Then I projected a true 16x9 image on the wall to the size I want, tilted/panned the projector to remove all keystone, level the picture and then drew lines on the wall around the picture. Everything was then based on those lines. Used a stud finder to find... well.. the studs and nailed some 1/2x1" pieces of wood (8 feet long) I got from Home Depot for $5 each (Bought 5 total). I wasn't lucky enough to have the edge of the frame over a stud so I used L shaped braces to attach the sides to the top/bottom parts that are nailed to the studs.
The stretching of the blackout cloth was a painful exercise. I was alone to do all this so I recommend the help of a friend or wife. Staples are at approx 5" intervals and stretched like a drum skin. Stretching at the corners is a pain too. :) The cloth was $21 at Walmart. A piece of advice, don't keep the blackout cloth in a bag for several days like I did. Roll it as soon as you get home if you're not going to use it right away. You'll end up with very nasty wrinkles and I had to iron them out which was not fun!!
For one thing, 8 feet pieces of wood don't fit in my car so I had Home Depot cut them all in half. Using the lines I drew from my projector, it was very easy to put everything together. I didn't take pictures during constructions so I can't really show...
All prices in Canadian...
Blackout cloth: $21
Black velvet: $17
Misc nail/screws: $15
L shaped braces: $6
There are other things you'll need, but I had already... Like a stud finder, level, stapler, etc. Took me about 2-3 hours to put everything together.
Watched "Finding Nemo" last night and it was phenomenal
!! I am so thankful to this message board! I don't think I'd be enjoying my projector this much if it wasn't for all of you guys!
I'm well below $2000 for the entire room and my screen is 95". My neighbor recently bought a 51" TV for $3500. ;)
