The Radioshack preamps have a higher noise figure and don't always work as well as the other brands such as Winegard. And they cost more. For cost and performance, I would order the Winegard 8700 from Solid Signal for $29.

Tyler I tried all of your suggestions. I managed to pull WLOS for an hour after work yesterday and then it disappeared.
However I found a long coaxial and moved the antenna temporary out on my deck and voila. Perfect reception to the major 5 ( WLOS, WSPA, FOX, NBC and WMYCA (i think).
So I may be able to get a small footprint outdoor antenna (RCA ANT 751) and put it on the side of my house and use the charter feed to my living room. Im going to give that a try. It will not be very high in the air and it may not work. I believe my chances are better with this antennae to receiving WLOS. I know the indoor antenna will not work consistently no matter where i place it inside my house.
Hopefully WLOS will put a tower on Parris Mountain. Who knows, If this works I will not need it.
THe antenna gets mostly great reviews for it's reception and small form factor. I know it's not the best but it's cheap and all I really care about are the 5 networks. Listed above.
Go to Radioshack and get an Antennacraft HBU22. It is also a small antenna that is perfect for AVL/GSP market, as it gets HiVHF and UHF. And adding a low gain preamp may also help. Antennas Direct PA18 is $27.99 with free shipping from Solid Signal, and Winegard 8700 is $29. And depending on where you place your antenna, you can also receive some Charlotte channels.

I agree also. they could add a 4:00pm Newscast and let Jack Roper do the Weather. or changed the Your Carolina format into a Mid Morning news format and add a Weather sagment

I've went to RadioShack and bought an in-line signal amplifier today. I had $60 and I don't want to go over priced. But I did some scanning on the channels. Still no WLOS 13 frown.gif

I wish WLOS' signal wasn't inadequate.

SpencerKarter, that Radioshack inline amp is lousy and a poor choice. If you are going to get an inline amp, a better choice is the RCA inline amp at Walmart which is $15. It is designed to have Extremely Low Noise, so should be better than the Radioshack. But actually, an inline amp is not appropriate for your situation. YOU NEED A GOOD LOW NOISE PREAMP.

So when ever they get the Appilcation Approve and get the Translator equipment install and a Antenna Install Two other stations has a Broadcast antenna on Paris Mountain WNTV ETV 29 and WGGS 16 so once they put that Translator on the air then that should help the Upstate area to get the WLOS TV

Do you mean RCA TVPRAMP1R Outdoor Antenna Preamplifier? http://www.amazon.com/RCA-TVPRAMP1R-Outdoor-Antenna-Preamplifier/dp/B003P92D9Y/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1345017440&sr=1-5&keywords=RCA

tylerSC, I've saved Winegard 8275 preamp in my wish list at Amazon website. smile.gif

BTW I've got WNSC 30 (PBS/SCETV) from Rock Hill, SC in the Charlotte, NC DMA OTA which is 79 miles from my house. Unfortunately no signal, getting so-called blue screen of death instead. frown.gif

Ahh, but was this Dan Bickford's choice??? If so, she could not comment on such.

Regarding WLOS translators...

I was reading on Facebook the comments regarding WLOS and the impending loss of carriage on DISH Network. You know, same song different verse, blah, blah, blah - my commentary on these carriage fiascoes. Anyway, one WLOS fan posted that many translators in the far western NC mountains are now off (since the digital transition) - and apparently they are not returning (in digital or otherwise). Does anyone have a good list of WLOS translators, and which ones are off and will not be returning in digital form? Because of the length of translator callsigns, they are almost impossible for me to memorize, and their COL is not always logical - therefore I find it difficult to search for translators on the FCC site. It would be a nice public service for stations to consistently post translator information on their websites, but most don't.

Double check Solid Signal price, but Amazon has free shipping so you may come out better there. The RCA preamp may be decent, and claims low noise. But they also have an inline amp at Walmart for $15, but that is not what you need. The 8275 has more gain than the 8700, so may be better at your distance.

SpencerKarter, are you getting good reception tonight? Conditions appear to be very good, and I am getting all Charlotte channels very strong, as well as the GSP locals of course, including AVL. But it will be nice if WLOS adds their translator if FCC approves.

You must be asleep tonight SpencerKarter. No updates yet. And have you thought about getting a rotor, since you also may want Columbia and Augusta?

tylerSC, right now I'm having trouble getting WYFF 4 OTA! Also yesterday I've picked up WLOS 13 again during the afternoon but signal disappeared. frown.gif

Yes, I'm pointing at the right direction as the best as I can.
