Any PVR's with Component in/out scheduled?

Hi all,

I have a 50" plasma fed by a Component video signal from a sony HD100 HD DirecTV box. I would like to get a Tivo/PVR, but don't want to sacrifice the video quality by viewing everything through an S-video cable.

Are there PVR's coming out with a component in/out? I want the same vid quality in/out, and my wife wants a PVR, but I try to explain it won't look as good---help!

Thx,

E

If you mean the ability to record a HD component input? No ... and any PVR products that are released with component input in the forseeable future will either be restricted by:
- HD Component input will not be recordable, it will just act as a 'passthough' to other outputs.
Or
- HD Component will only be recordabe at some lower resolution

This has nothing to do with copy protection or broadcast flags ... it's in the cost of the hardware needed to take an analog HD component input and digitize / compress it into something that can reasonably be stored.

There have been rumors of a HD DirecTV Tivo. It would include the reciever(s) and replace your existing STB ... donno what the current status is (except that it has not been released yet).

There are some stand-alone HDTV OTA PVRs coming out (Zenith and LG).

Firewire is the only connection out there that is going to allow for passing a HD signal from a reciever/STB to some sort of external recording device.
