I'm getting the WCNY channels at about 90% on RF22 in Whitesboro. Now if we could just get some kind of repeater for the CBS station out of Syracuse I could drop even my lifeline cable.

I agree pkscout. In a good share of the Utica, Yorkville and Whitesboro area, and actually all the way down the valley to Herkimer, any CBS channel is tough to pull in. It seems to me that although WTVH 5 in Syracuse serves as Utica's CBS station, it really couldn't care less about Utica. A couple years back I had a conversation with WWNY, ch. 7 in Watertown. They were interested in putting up a translator to serve Utica until CBS nixed it by saying Utica was already served by WTVH. I was kind of hoping for WWNY as it carries the Bills games as it isn't affected by the NFL blackout rules as it's located far enough away.

Sometime in the next month or so, we will be turning up our new HD master control at Fox 68 and MY 43. This means that we will not only be able to air network shows in HD, but syndicated content such as 2 and a Half Men, Seinfeld, etc as well as HD movies and commercials. There is not a firm date yet, as training is in progress. I will advise as we decide on a date.

Great news! Thanks for the update Quantum.

Nice, now if WSTM can get an OTA feed of the CW in HD this area will be all set!

That literally just made my week reading that. Can't wait!

Does WCNY transmit in 5.1? Specifically, shows like the upcoming Christmas at the Belmont on Thursday. How do you find out what audio different programs (in the future) will broadcast in? Is there a way?

Thanks.

Did anybody else notice that TW in Syracuse has NBA League Pass in HD now for all the channels? They are 1092-1100. I saw them last night but had no luck accessing the new ones (1092-1099) as I got the 'channel not available' message (SDV failure presumably?). The old HD channel (1100) came through but the game was inexplicably blacked out (Boston vs Washington, SD feed not blacked out).

Nice of TW to offer us a free preview of NBA League Pass to make up for the MSG fiasco. Oh wait, we were getting that anyway so thanks for nothing TW.

Barring any complications, we plan on turning on the new HD Master control for WSYT and WNYS on Wednesday 1/4. If we run into issues, I will advise.

I give the HD a big thumbs up. Turned on Anderson today and the picture looks great

I'll check it out tonight. I've been checking ever night recently. Thanks for the heads up.

WSYT and WNYS are on from our new HD Master Control room. Please post your thoughts and comments. It may take us a couple weeks to get everything possible in HD, but we will work to that end. Shows that will air in HD include Anderson Cooper, 2 1/2 men, Seinfeld, Big Bang Theory, New adventures of old Christine, Divorce Court, Judge Alex, Law and Order Criminal intent, and more.

I caught some of 2 1/2 Men and Seinfeld last night and they looked pretty good. Was the sound for theses shows always 5.1? Or did you upgrade that too from 2.0?

Now if we could just get WCNY to broadcast their HD feed on 24.1 so us D* customers could get PBS HD that would be great.

Anyways, keep up the good work!

I noticed the synch was off a little last night during Big Bang Theory and Without a Trace on WNYS. I have not noticed the synch being off on WSYT. Picture looks good on both.
Made some adjustments to the lip sync on WNYS. see if that helps.
OK, I'll try to check tonight.
I checked it out a couple times over the weekend and the synch appeared better.

Directv subscribers in the Syracuse DMA were treated to a receiver upgrade last night. The guide is now in HD!

Is channel 5 in SYR down on power? Never had issues with it before, but now seems terrible. Maybe just snow on my antenna? Dunno. But now it is not watchable.

Just checked them here in East Syracuse, and the signal strength is pretty high... and we don't have snow or ice on our antenna. I'm wondering if they are still having problems at the transmitter: there have been occasional glitches in the video ever since it failed a week or so ago, but now they're constant and take down the audio as well.
Well, just checked another TV in the house on the same distribution cable, and the signal level was pegged. I called the station, they are having issues. Wouldn't it be nice if they said that on their website????

Hope they get it fixed soon, it is unwatchable at the moment.
Good to the reason behind the glitches on channel 5. Good to know it's not D* related. I hope they get it fixed before the AFC championship game this Sunday.

Well, it looks like the "fix" was incomplete: though they managed to resolve the most recent problem that prevented the picture and sound from staying locked, the station is back to the same problem it's had for weeks: the picture takes hits every several seconds that produce horizontal stripes of blocks in random parts of the screen. I see this both at home and at work, so it's plainly not local interference, antenna problems, or TV issues.

I wonder if they're ever going to fix this problem... or if Granite even cares?

Oh, we care - believe me, we CARE! It is all I've been working on this week. It is a particularly challenging problem, for reasons I won't get in to at the moment. I just wanted to emphasize that: 1) We know about the problem; 2) We care about the problem; 3) We're not idiots, and know how to fix the problem.

If this transmitter had a neck, my hands would be around it right about now...

I know you care, and that you aren't an idiot! I wrote Granite...

Any ETA on a permanent fix? Like in time for the AFC championship game on Sunday afternoon?

Timing is everything. I did some "remodeling" of the WTVH transmitter early this morning, starting at - you guessed it - 12:58am! I moved the STL microwave receiver 30 feet, now it is alongside the transmitter. The interconnect cable for the SMPTE 310M was about 50 feet long, now it is 6. It was picking up RFI and trashing the signal every time a mouse sneezed on it. This should be the end of the "hits" the signal was taking. I'm fortunate I have a skilled microwave waveguide plumber available, and that he was willing to stay up VERY late this morning.

The mystery remains, though, why the RFI suddenly worsened on the windy night this week. I suppose it is possible some clamp or ground or cable support or even antenna moved a little, and altered the RF conduction landscape outside, putting more RF inside the building.

My analyzer showed some occasional PCR errors afterward, about one every few minutes, but that appears to be happening before the STL, and it doesn't seem to be affecting PQ. I'll go looking for that Monday.
