Picked up a Terk HDTVa Indoor Antenna last night from Best Buy just to check out my reception.
I did autoprogram 2 different times. The first time was not very exciting or helpful -- I only got a handful of channels in HD. The second time, however, was much better. I picked up around 6 or 7 HD channels, even more than what was listed on AntennaWeb.org.
So, here's the difference in my setup for each time I autoprogrammed:
1st time: Antenna inside my armoire; pointed in a random direction; amplification of signal turned off.
2nd time: Antenna on top of my armoire, pointed in the general direction (purely a guess based on where the sun sets and rises) to try to get close the 170-175 degree location; amplification turned on.
On the 2nd go-around, I picked so many more channels. Yes, a lot of them were not HD, but a lot were, too. And the picture was just awesome!
One thing I want to know, though. I'm used to using the strech, zoom, and normal modes with the 8300HD (Scientific Atlanta) from TWC, and it works extremely well for fitting a 4:3 to my plasma. So, my question is:Can I use the same stretch/zoom options with the OTA feed through the DirecTV box? Or does the stretch/zoom only work off of the satellight feed?
Thanks to everyone for your input! I'll probably be calling DirecTV tonight!
