It looks like KLRU-DT is finally online with their HD broadcasts. I am now watching a documentary about whales and the logo in the corner says 'KLRU-HD'.

Congratulations KLRU!!!

If this is true it is perfect timing -

Great performances (Concert for George) A tribute to the late George Harrison features highlights from a 2002 concert which involved, among others, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton. Included: McCartney performs "For You Blue," "Something," "All Things Must Pass" (2004)

I am still skeptical though. Just because it says HD does'nt mean jack. Thanks for the info though.

A little while ago, I turned on my TV to look at 18-1. They were broadcasting a true HD signal. Not only was "KLRU-HD" in the lower right corner, but they were showing a close-up of someone carving meat on a cutting board. You could see the individual grains in the wood, and the picture was not stretched.

Unfortunatley, just a couple of minutes after that, the picture flipped back to the regularly scheduled show for the time slot: Aurthur. The caption also moved to the lower left corner and changed to "KLRU-DT". I hadn't gone to 18-2, 18-3, or 18-4 to see if they were on while 18-1 was on as it didn't occur to me to do this until after the HD signal switched off.

My guess is that they're testing the autoswitching equipment. Hopefully this means that they'll actually be able to broadcast in HD soon.

Exactly. They are testing and they expect to rollout tomorrow to both TW and OTA. I spoke w/ someone in programming. We will probably be able to see some HD tonight on/off while they test.

Finally! I take back all the bad things I said about them.

Hi All!
Anyone subcribing to Voom? If so please give feedback. I see they are offering a plan where you dont have to purchase the equipment.

Thanks in advance for any information

all thats left that I give a crap about is ESPN HD...maybe if I keep posting here it will magically appear....hope
post #431 of 6769
ESPN, Cinemax, Starz, NBC... Could care less about WB...
Yeah, I just noticed the PBSes and also that FOX Sports HD is finally showing something. At this point I would be thrilled if TW would get NBC, WB, and UPN in HD, but I'm not sure how hard UPN would be since that's rebroadcast from San Antonio.

All in all I'm quite happy with my recent move to the SAE8000HD box, though. Recording Rattle & Hum in HD right now!

Well, it's been almost a month now, any news when they will enable the DVI on the 8000 box?
I dont know this, but it appears that the DVI HDCP error I was getting on my 3250 all the sudden went away...knock on wood.
That is good news! I've been a little worried that the new box would have the same problem as the 3250, but if yours is working now that bodes well.

I am sick and tired of hearing all the whines about TWC. What happened to all of us former TWC'ers?

Well the nazis are expensive, but I have a dual channel DVR that records
HDTV flawlessly, and for only $8 more a month its a steal considering there
are no other HD recording options out there (for now)

I forget the exact sequence to get into it, but the service menu will show you the signal strength you've got now. If the number is green, then you should be safe. If it's already yellow or red, the splitter may drop the signal strength enough that you experience dropouts and/or random box resets.
If you call TW about it, they will blame your surge protector or anything else possible for the bad signal strength they provide and do nothing. (Unless you're really lucky and the guy they send actually installs an amp to correct the problem. I was not lucky and installed my own cablevision amp.)

Another thing... good splitters will list how much of a signal loss you get at each port in dB. Two 2-way splitters is worse than one 3-way splitter.

Can someone post how to test your signal strength through the service menu?

Thanks,
Mark

Anyone notice anything different about their Pace 550HD box behavior lately?

On Monday evening I noticed that the Guide on the SD channels is now compressed, with vertical bars on the left and right sides.

Previous to then, the Guide was displayed full screen width on SD channels and compressed on HD channels.

I have the box set to the "Pass" mode, yet the SD channels still appear to now be "upgraded" to 1080i, regardless of the box mode, and Fox (1501) which used to be in 720p (unviewable on my TV) is now in 1080i and viewable. (I realize that Fox only broadcasts in 420p!!!). However, if I set the box in 1080i mode, the guide does not even appear when on SD channels.

Also, I have tried the "Override" mode of the box (supposed to pass analog 480i broadcasts unchanged when set in 1080i) however, this does nothing. SUpposedly to go into Override mode, you set the box at 1080i, then in the menu, highlight (not select) 480i, and press the Guide button. An envelope then appears on the box display. Then press exit twice to quit. The envelope appears when I do this, but the behavior of the box does not seem to change.

TWC claims they have not sent out any firmware updates to the Pace (alhtough they did say they sent out an upgrade to the SA 3250HD to activate the DVI output).

Any insight into this new behavior would be appreciated.

FYI, I have a Toshiba TN61X81 4x3 HDready TV that does not do the squeeze, so I have the aspect ratio on the Pace Box set to 16x9, and when I put the box in the Stretch mode, the proper aspect ratio appears on the screen (although the left and right ends of the picture are cut off).

Thanks,
Jim Noblett

I can't speak for the Pace box, but the exact same thing happened on my SA3250 box about a month or so ago. Pass-through mode no longer passes 480i, so all my SD channels are sent out at 1080. It's annoying, but since I still have a separate SA8000 DVR to watch SD, I haven't worried too much about it.

For those that have the 8000HD, I'm wondering if the SD channels are passed through at 480i or if they are upconverted to 1080i? I was planning to swap my boxes soon for the 8000HD, but I don't want my SD channels to be unconverted in the box...
