Can anyone receive KBVO from Round Rock or Pflugerville with an antenna? If so, what type of antenna do you have? And do you use an amplifier? Also, which way do you point your antenna?

I'd love to pickup KBVO to watch Texas Rangers games on Fridays.

The power is too low. If you have TWC for internet, you may be able to pick it up via unencrypted QAM. The only problem is that you can't tune in all of the locals that way. I'm in NE Round Rock and I can pick up Waco stations better than KBVO. I've received it once in the middle of the night when the weather was just right.

Thanks for the response Sivartk.

In case anyone sees my questions. KBVO is channel 14.

I'm at Steck and MoPac in Austin and I can't get it, with a small outside antenna, their ERP is just soooooo looooooow.

If you want KBVO in this town, then DirecTV is the way to go. It's got an excellent feed. Otherwise, I think you need to actually be able to see the tower farm in Westlake.

Dish has it, too. My wife records all the "Family Feud" reruns.

What about TWC and U-verse? Do they carry it?
Yes, Dish does carry it, I'm just not sure if it carries in in HD or not as does DirecTV. As for Time Warner I gave up on them a long time ago and apparently Steck and MoPac is too far out in the boondocks for UVerse service.

Wish I could be more helpful. mn

I have Time Warner Roadrunner only. I live in Kyle & get great OTA. Has anyone figured out how to get ESPN streaming ? I've talked to ESPN & Time Warner...and the only way to get ESPN streaming is to purchase TWC programing. Last years College Bowl games were all on ESPN....I have an xbox360 w/gold & has the ESPN app (so does my logitech revue..googletv)..........even xbox says I need to contact TWC to get the feeds.
Just my $0.02, if I'm paying for TWC roadrunner internet service...they are "blocking" the ESPN feeds on roadrunner....that just doesn't seem right.
I have no plans on getting their programming.......love Netflex & local PBS stations..........

I get KBVO 14 from Llano fairly well from 6 miles northwest of Georgetown if I point my Antennacraft Colorstar C290 inside attic antenna due west with no amplifier. I used to watch the Round Rock Express home games that were broadcast on KBVO on Saturday nights last year.

Note when I turned my antenna due west I lost some of the fringe stations I was receiving from Temple/Killeen and also lost KTBC Fox 7. Couldn't find that sweet spot to keep getting KBVO with everything else I was getting so turned my antenna back to where it was... to the southwest.

I agree with this. I have direct line of site to the antenna farm from nearly 11 miles away and, as I posted previously, only one of my TV's can resolve the KBVO signal. My antenna is a Clearstream4 that I have mounted in the attic with the signal being routed to three TV's in my house. If I put the antenna on the roof I'm guessing that I'd be able to pick up the station on every set in the house, but that seems like a lot of work for one channel. I can pick up KWTX from Waco on all of my TV's and it seems like their 10-2 channel has a lot of the My Network TV programming that KBVO has. Of course, they don't have the Rangers games, though.

If anyone's still curious what sort of Herculean effort may be required to get KBVO and KCWX (two MyNetworks and thisTV) in Pflugerville or Round Rock, I ended up with a fairly lively discussion here: http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=10468

I'm still nailing down which approach to start with at my house, and cannot yet comment as to its success rate.
I think KCWX is a figment of the imagination. Has anyone been able to pick up that channel using OTA? Anywhere? KBVO, meanwhile, should totally be obtainable if you're using a roof-mounted antenna. I have a Clearstream 4 attic mount split three ways and like I said before, the old tv that I have hooked up to a converter box can get it with no problem, but it must be right at the edge. My HTPC still can't resolve it, but I did discover that when hooking the coaxial directly to the tv I can tune in KBVO. That tells me that it's the tuner in the HTPC that's the problem and it's probably because it's a dual tuner and is again splitting the signal directly on the card.

Plenty of folks see it by e-skip 1,000 miles away. Not that this fact does people in Austin or San Antonio any good.

At 46 miles from KCWX's TL a Winegard HD5030 at c. 15' AGL when pointed north at it does very well here in San Antonio. In fact, it decodes off the back of another VHF-UHF array at 20' AGL fix-aimed at the Elmendorf antenna farm. http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/fred-2.htm Being low-VHF, sferics easily cause freezes, and any strong US DTV or Mexico analog co-channel Es will impair decoding. They hope to have channel 8 translators in each city (that was their original channel choice, but KTBC, reverting to 7 in Jun 2009, objected).
That is a very thorough history of KCWX. I'll be honest and say that I didn't understand most of it, but it was still strangely intriguing enough that I did read all of it. :P At least there's testimony now that KCWX is in fact receivable and with what kind of hardware.
And speaking of extremely low power...has anyone seen or heard of KVAT-LP on 17 lately? I know it was licensed to Garfield but Wikipedia says it actually was on a tower out in Westlake.
KVAT was for sure on some tower out in Westlake. However, with the removal of Retro TV from one of their subchannels last October there was really nothing else of interest. I removed it from my lineup many months back and never checked back to it again.

The reason why BBC America is not on TWC in Austin or Dallas for the matter is they are currently on a month to month contract according to TWC's bimonthly legal notices. I am guessing BBC America won't let TWC add the HD version to any new markets until a long term agreement is hammered out to continue carrying the channel instead of keeping the old contract on a month to month basis.

Or....TWC doesn't want to pay the extra cash for the HD version and BBCA is insisting that it do, in order to get another contract. Either way, the viewers are hosed.

Oh, and where are these legal notices of which you speak?

Thanks for the info - but where are the Austin legal notices now? I found this SoCal one which indeed confirms they are in negotiations with BBCA.

TWC has now denied TWICE to me that such a page on the website exists. Would you happen to have the URL?

It is hidden and they have not updated the legal notices on the website since JUNE! So you have to go to the Austin Statesman website to get the info on the 1st and 3rd monday of each month. Most CSRs are not going to know about this info but in your bill they have a little notice saying for programming updates check your local paper(the actual wording is check Austin American Statesman) or visit www.timewarnercable.com .
....or visit www.timewarnercable.com where we haven't updated the notices since June, but that doesn't matter since you can't find them anyway!

So tell me again, why do people hate the cable company?

Actually, late last night I was able to find the PDF on TWC Austin, by (get this) typing the ENTIRE text from above into Google with quotes around it, then following the most likely link that was returned. What a mess!

Dish has had BBC America in HD for more than a year now. So, that's another option.

Of course, with Dish you lose AMC/IFC/Sundance/We.

You also lose Disney/ESPNU and ABC Family in HD.

There's always a trade-off.

try to punch in 15.1 what you get most tv's will take the first subchannel of QAM carrier and it will change to the correct channel as the first subchannel is actually configured. You need to check 15.1 and then 15.2 as KXAN is not on 16.2!
