I live near RR/GT in an area with no cable, so I've been using Dish for a few years. I'd like to access over the air HDTV instead to save a bit of money. TV Fool's website suggests there will not be a signal problem. I'm thinking of having an attic antenna. But I'm curious what some of the better antennas out there are for this endeavor. Anything in particular that bubbles to the top in terms of good performance?
There are a ton of good antenna comparisons on Google, these are a couple I found helpful:
Two things that immediately come to mind in the Austin area:
1.) We have a single high-VHF channel (KTBC/Fox), so keep that in mind when choosing your antenna or combination.
2.) Find an antenna appropriate for your attic construction. In comparison to the wide-open attic I had in Massachusetts, my attic here is a mess of 2x4 lattice-style construction, and there's no way it could accommodate a Yaggi antenna, so I went with a bay-style. Using a low-noise pre-amp for the run back to my office DVR, it works extremely well.
