BIGOT! It is the ugly americanism of yours that got hte towers knocked down, perhaps they should start corraling your type in Guantanamo for the sake of National Security.

I have done many more things for Home Theater than Lucas has, I will enumerate them later, but they are no small potatoes.

Ah--I smell some gas going now in the way of George Lucas.

Unbelievable.

That's a comments that stands on its own and is quite revealing so I just wanted to highlight it in case anyone missed it.

Interesting thread.

As i just purchased a home with about $35k worth of 2 year old B&O gear and am a card-carrying 2-channel audiophile i thought i would weigh in here. I just spent a couple of months attempting to find a pair of B&O speakers that would be 'good enough' sonically to qualify for my living room. whether due to the limitations of the B&0 source gear or not......B&O just doesn't do enough things right to be much more than 'background pretty-faces' for me.

i have not heard these B&O plastic towers.......but i would be very skeptical of the potential of any B&O speaker design given their previous products and marketing priorities. i have not read Martin Collom's review and am certainly open to any possibility.......but then i don't always agree with Mr. Colloms.

i have to admit to having a good laugh at the thought that anyone would give a rip what Dan Marino, Pat Riley, Madonna and Jack Nicholson think about sound reproduction.

if you have the opportunity to compare the PERFORMANCE of B&O gear to high quality audio gear (i have had this opportunity) the differences are quite evidant. that said, B&O is rightly successful in their market niche and i have a home full of the stuff.

Mike--Certainly they are not in the league of your Kharmas and would never justify playing your Sirius lll through these plastic laughables
post #36 of 522
AS i posted previously, MARTIN COLLUMS, in his HI FI NEWS review, did give this speaker a very postive review, and at the end of the review he says , "CONCLUSION: THE BEOLAB 5 is a tour de force, for both the design team at B&O and the industry as a whole", and he concludes by saying, "THIS BEOLAB 5 really is whole lot of loudspeaker for the money, and should be put on your wish list,,,,,,,"

I myself have 0 interest in promoting this product, as i am a designer, and PRESIDENT of a very high end speaker firm, ( should any of you want to visit my web site, www.quintessence-acoustics.com ) however i feel it is important to look at any new product, and try and give it a fair shake. From what i can gather, this may be a very viable speaker for individuals that have difficult rooms, and or unusual seating arrangements.

I'm enjoying this lively, constructive and entertaining discussion.:)

Hi

Amusing post. I like the design of most things B&O but find this one not so great looking.. In the old days B&O were not that bad but I believe they have targeted a different niche in Audio reproduction , notice I did not call it Hi-Fi, (Their TV are very good, I repeat, extremely good). This speaker may well represent a breakthrough, I do not know, I have not heard them. B&O mentality is AFAIK very far from Hi-End in term of audio quality, however plus my experience with omni speakers has not been great so... .

Let us keep an open mind... or at least try. And just to stir up the pot: the Pioneer thing demo at the CES was a disaster IMHO..

Actually, I read a study that said the shapliest women in America are found in Arkansas. No joke.

Oh, and BYU is often considered to have best looking college girls. Ask Playboy or Penthouse, I believe that the school is currently on both of their lists. And I go there. ;)

And lastly, well, I honestly can't stand Florida. The attitude in that state just bothers me... doesn't fit my style at all.

Plus, I just naturally hate any Fla. football team.

Please do shed some light on this... inquiring minds really want to know...

Considering that when you Google your name, all that comes up with is the fact that you were mistakenly reported to be in the WTC but didly squat on anything audio related...

QQQ do not go taking that statement on it's own because it was clearly in response to the TZUCC sttements along the lines of :

"When the last American leaves Dade (county ) will they please carry the flag". Let me re-instate that I consider myself as American as anyone in here, and are proud to have brought a handfull of initiatives that 25,14, 12, and 10 yers later are followed intently by people in a Forum.

There is a great mix of High End clientele here from Europe, The East Coast and Latin America. Their patronage produces some amazing custom installation results. And I clearly include the Rappers that are moving here, equally with the European Billionaires, etc.etc. It's less in-bred if you will.

Now my earlier proactive statement addressed at you had to do with the way you dismissed the digital sound projector without properly auditioning this amazing device. My feelings were "hurt" when you grouped it with SRS.

But back to B&O to compare these speakers with anything else on the B&O line is not fairto anyone. This is a pure performance product.

I do not blame you, so was I before I had to interact with them. You'd be amazed to fathom these peoples A?V standards, because THEY HAVE SEEN IT ALL AND HEARD IT ALL. And when they see something they really like they have the dough to plunk it down.

Here is a change order from a Barco 8" Projector, Faroudja doubler and Stewart rear film screen with 1 Macintosh Surround Processor and 7 HT Speakers; to a Sony 1292, Quadrupler, DNP Optical Rear Screen, Meridian Processor, and 7 Dynaudio speakers with the Esotar Tweeter.

and this is what it likes like today with a G-90.

If it looks like Oprah's Show set, it is no coincidence. She asked for Dan's permission to copy it on her set. And hundreds of Millions of people see a replica of my design.

Now you are a real class guy posting checks from one of your customers. I would have to say that you are a man of very few principles.

I have permission. There is no ABA info.

Not to mention I love the photoshop job you did with the controller and screen image.

I would bet money that Dan Marino ( or any client for that matter) would be less than pleased with what you have done. In my profession we say that "you are lower than the dartos muscle on a pygmy with elephantiasis". Have you no respect for client confidentiality?

This check was blown up to three feet with Dan Marino's permission, and is my copyright for consideration given.

The screen image is from an actual screen shot of hdtv tour of europe , the Crestron is pure photoshop, but in reality there is a real one, behind.

Where is the dartos muscle?
I'll let you do a google search for the meaning of elephantiasis and where the dartos muscle is and let the term be self explanatory
post #55 of 522
Not to get into this argument, but why would anyone spend so much money on a system and put 12 big blue VU meters on either side of their screen so that they are right there staring you right in the face the entire time you are trying to watch a movie? I can never understand that.

I hate to play one up manship with Peter but was particularly proud of this letter from one of my clients.

cineramax... yet another fountain of spout. You are so ridiculous Peter Montegue, that we don't even get upset at your WTC comments.

Now take your dog pound and book the next raft back to Hooba. Fidel and his thugs are waiting for you at the beach.
the check is from Dan Marino, but then again, there are probably 50 Marino's in FL... but then again, chimeramax didn't say it was from THE Dan Marino... just 'a' Dan Marino.

QQQ, wow... is that THE George Lucas?
