D* Extends $399 HDTV Offer - Now it's $99! And more! - Page 3

HBO and Showtime DO include one HD channel for each.

I also just called 5 minutes ago, talked to the retention dept, and told them I felt ripped off because I had just paid $399 a few weeks ago, and now I'm hearing about others paying only $99. They issued me a $250 credit and HBO and Showtime free for six months.

I already have a Radio Shack antenna for OTA, does anyone know what kind of antenna comes with it if you get the OTA antenna. If it's better I might try and add that.

here is a direct number to a customer retention person

1-800-600-8977

hope this helps

I just got signed up for this also. Thanks!

Here's what they did for me through the customer retention department:

I buy receiver for $399 + $14.95 shipping/handling + tax = $452 approx.
I agree to keeping DirecTV for 2 years
I agree to the HDTV Package for $10.99/month for one year
They credit me $300
They credit me $10 per month for 6 months on my total choice package with locals and give me Showtime for 3 months free.

I've been a DirecTV subscriber for over 4 years but on 12/24 I signed up with Comcast Cable to get some HDTV shows (football) for a couple of months since they were running a deal. Now I can compare all three. Thanks avsforum!

Well, I'm 0 for 2. I signed up for the $399 offer last Wednesday and got $150 off and 6 months of Showtime. My first attempt with retention today got me a lady who adamantly denied a $99 offer existed, even after I told her I knew someone who got it. According to her it had to be the DVR offer. With my second try just now the guy at least admitted to the offer existing, but stated it was a case by case basis and they just can't go crediting anyone's account who accepted a previous offer. Why not??? I'll give him this. He sure wasn't buying my bluff to switch to cable. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow.....

The direct number to customer retention:

1-800-600-8977

works great.

The rep even said thanks for holding even though he picked it up on the first ring. After I told the rep that I was struggling with the $400 setup vs. $10 a month for cable the rep gave me no issues at all with setting up the $99 deal. He even threw in Showtime for 6 months. It was a simple and painless process. I hope everyone else is as lucky.

Again thanks to everyone at AVS Forum. I have been griping about how much I would like to hook up HD but couldn't justify the cost. Then comes along a friendly AVS post and now I am all squared away with everything I could have asked for and more. All along I felt $200-$300 was a fair price for a 'early adopter' product but $99. Wow. I almost feel guilty. Now I can have the superbowl party on my 8ft wide screen in HD. Thanks guys.

Is there a way to change to title of this thread? It doesn't really fit and a lot of people might pass it altogether.

Just called them. I've been a customer for 15 months and the best offer I could get was $199 including 6 months free showtime and OTA antenna install (not the antenna itself).

She said the installer should have no problem installing the OTA antenna. What do you guys think? Should I just buy the antenna and a rotator and assume he has the rest?

Thanks again for the great post.

tme, call back and see if you can get a better deal with someone else. If not, take what you are offered, that sounds good to me

Does D* credit your account or your credit card? I'd love to jump all over this deal (I've been w/D* for 2+ yrs totl choice $40+/mo.) but Christmas just passed and I have the wifes B-Day this week. Hard to justify spending $400 upfront even if I'd get "free" D* for 5 or 6 months.
They credit your account. Basically I received a $443 charge on my credit card and will then see a $344 credit on my D* bill. It all works out in the end if you can float the credit for 6 months or so. $344 is $344 in my mind. The receiver you are getting sells for $600 at BB and CC and you get a new dish and somone to dance around on your roof. All in all it seems like a great deal. You make the call.
Thanks for the reply. I figured as that was the case. I can do it, but I'll have to wait a couple weeks. The $399 offer is til June, so maybe the retention offer will last til then. Its not hard for me to justify spending the money, I can always justify upgrading the HT........its just hard to less than two weeks after christmas and 4 days before my wife's b-day. I have OTA HD, so I'll get may Pats in HD on Saturday, no rush.
I pulled the trigger on this deal yesterday. The rep. did say they would credit my account, but that they could move that credit to my credit card. It might be because I have my monthly bill set up to auto-charge the same credit card. YMMV.
:D Called D* last night and again today finally ended up getting it for $199 plus 6 mo of Showtime and HBO for 2 bucks a month for 6mo. They install on the 21st. The OTA antenna wasnt available in my area so no luck there but hey I have no complaints thanks guys for the heads up.
I just got the same deal. HD for $99. On top of that when I originally ordered the system, I whined a bit about the lack of programming and they gave me $100 credit. So I got HD for free. And it should be with the lack of channels.

I then got greedy and tried to get Premier for $20 off, but they said "Whoa", you just got a ton of credits. So I'm a happy Directv Camper today and forever.
i just got the deal as well

$99 total

Getting $20 off my account for each of the next 6 months

free hdtv package for one month, but he waived the HD committment, so i can cancel that at any time
post #79 of 2560
Does anyone know what the OTA equipment is that D* sends when you get the $399 HD package ?

Thanks

Third times a charm. Just got another $150 credit. I love this forum. First a sweet deal on a 51S700 from Sears and now this. :D

GOd, only a short-few months and the $399 deal I got back in August/September has bloomed into a $99 deal!?! I feel slighted. I've been with D* for just under two years and as time has gone forward only served to be more of a custmoer to them than ever. I wonder if there is any customer-retention dealo that I could employ ...

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just looking around this forum to get some info because I was going to buy the Hughes HTL at BB, $500.00. But then I saw this about the $99.00 deal. I didn't think it could be true that I could get a receiver, dish, OTA antenna, and install for $99.00. So I called the customer retention number told them that a friend told me about the deal they are running. Well, all I can say is "WOW". They gave it to me without a hassle. I got the receiver, dish, an OTA antenna, the install, free Showtime and HBO for 6 months plus I got a $10.99 a month credit for the HD package.
THANK YOU!! to the person that found this deal!!! I wish that I had friends that had a dish to tell this to. They ALL are on cable.
I will be looking at this forum every day now!!

I called again just now. This time it was a guy who answered. He said he never heard of $99 offer. I told him that others and friends got it, but he denied it and said he can't do that. Then he started saying he can't even do it for 199 for me since I've been a customer for a year. I told him to make sure and ask his supervisor.

He came back a few minutes later and apologized. He offered me 199 for receiver, install (couldnt guarantee that installer wont charge more for OTA antenna install), 6 months free showtime and hbo, and one month off hd package. I just took the offer. Now I'll just order a channel master 4228 and hope the installer agrees to put it up.

Included in the $399 ($99 if you haggle) deal is either a Samsung TS160 or Hughes HTLHD receiver and if needed, a new triple LNB dish, both installed at no charge. All DirecTV HD receivers have built in tuners for OTA analog/digital channels.

OTA antennas are not included in the standard HD deal and usually are at your own expense. Free OTA HD is definitely worth the one time cost of a good antenna.
I took the $399 offer back in October, so I called today and was given the $300 credit on my account. I was told that it was an offer for certain customers and she would check to see if I was eligible. I was put on hold for about a minute and she came back and said I would have a $300 credit on my account. All I can say is if you paid $399 call D* and ask for the credit. Make sure you use the 1-800-600-8977 number. :)
Any New customers get this deal. I have not been able to.

They said I could get the standard def deal for free and become a customer, then try to get the deal after I was a customer.

But that has a little more risk to it.
Morning Scott, I think you need to contact the retention department directly (is this what you did?) in order to get these deals. I remember that is what I had to do last year as the regular CSR's were not informed.
I did call them, they said I would have to order the standard package to become a customer, once that is set up then I would be eligible for this deal. However, who knows, it is like an airline ticket. It seems to change every hour. And from reading this thread they seem to favor customers that have been with them for a longer time.

BTW is there any way to select the type of box. The Samsung has RGB and the Hughes does not and therefore would not work on CRT Projectors.
Well that is strange, because the '$99 deal' is being touted in this thread as a new-customer-only deal, which means you signup for that $99 HD deal. If this is not the case then maybe I'll as 'badboi' did and call up asking for a credit, too.
good luck, might be the easiest $300 bucks you ever make.
