Thanks George-O. My picture cleared up in the 2nd quarter and was fine thru the rest of the game. I'm using a HDMI connection between the HD cablebox and the tv and wonder if that caused some of the problem, altho then it cleared up and was fine. I use component RCA plugs for the SD stuff such as CH 8 and never have problems. I'm glad others don't have the problem.

I'm still on component connections. I once tried using HDMI but could not see any differrence on my small 32" Panny so I'm using it's only HDMI input for my upverting 720p DVD player.

does anyone know where i can get an up-to-date list of sports tv listings on comcast? the oregonian doesn't have anything on-line...

especially when they show college football in HD on Mojo - my Tivo always has it listed as something else.

any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, Comcast's TV Planner does not list the HD sports events that Comcast inserts into 788 from FSN. So, this doesn't really help either. The Comcast boxes (the DVR, for example) does list the upcoming sporting events on 788. So Comcast does list it somewhere. But I can't find it anywhere other than on the iGuide, which doesn't help someone with a Tivo.

Yeah ..... unfortunately, we're pretty much limited to using the onscreen schedule with the remote to find most of the FSN overlays on 788 for the time being .... at least Comcast broadcasts the games

Hi all. I searched this topic and saw some people asking about this in the past, but I didn't actually see any answers. Sorry if I missed them.

Does anyone have a relatively up to date list of the QAM channels for the locals in HD, in Vancouver? My parents just bought a new HD set and just want to be able to watch the locals in HD, but they'd rather not rent a cable box if it's not necessary. I'm trying to help them figure out which channels they need to check out. I'm up in Seattle, so I can't experiment to find them myself.

Thanks!

Is anyone else getting audio stuttering/dropouts on scifi hd (759), and to a lesser extent the neighboring channels? It started for me last night, and is still doing it today. Very frustrating, and completely unwatchable.

No, not in Washington County.

Thanks, it actually seems to have stopped, for now.

Not sure if everyone noticed but we got the guide update last night. You can see what it gives us here:

http://www.comcast.com/newguide/

One of the big things this update has is it fixes the command queueing (at least reduces the occurance).

I didn't notice that, but I will check. I did notice that when a recording finishes playing, the box goes into "pause" mode instead of giving you the delete/don't delete dialog box. But pushing "play" doesn't seem to do anything, until finally the dialog box comes up. Nothing earthshaking, just a bit disconcerting.

No update in Washington County yet.

Seems to work really well. It seems to be much more responsive, definetly an approvement.
Responsiveness seems about the same to me (3416). I like the new search interface though, and the ability to save searches.
The update has caused a new problem for me, when switching from a HD channel to a SD channels the color gets all screwed up, it's like the blue disappears and the red goes into overdrive. The only way to fix it is to go into the service menu and change the 4:3 over ride to off, then turn the box back on and off and go into the service menu again and reset the over ride back to its original position which in my case is 480i.

The HD channels are all fine, but every time I switch from HD to SD it happens. It's good for me that I rarely watch SD channels.

(edited to add)....

I recorded Primevil on BBC channel 162 so I could watch it later, it exhibited the same problem I get with live TV so it's strictly resolution, as opposed to other factors, that seems to be the trigger.

Hey Earle,

During non-Blazer season I virtually don't ever watch any SD, but I did notice that when I went to go into On Demand the interface was all screwed up (like it was way zoomed in with about a third of it off screen... I went in to the set up menu and changed the 4:3 override to off so it just outputs everything at 1080i and it was back to normal. Is there any need to have the override even on?

Hi Ron,
The reason I use it is because my TV does a real good job taking window-boxed, 16x9 SD, and blowing it up to full screen without any noticeable distortion. That only works on SD though, and if the TV sees a 1080i signal it disables that feature.

Hey you guys. Anybody using HDMI-out from their HD DVR moto box, and full pixel (dot by dot, zero-overscan etc) setting on your TV's? I just set up a new panel on Monday and was not using HDMI with my old panel. When I hooked it up and set the TV to full scan there was a bright green stripe of 8 pixels or so down the far right edge of the screen. On the far left side there's a strange "prisim", or tear-like effect showing up. When the panel is set to normal overscan neither shows up... I did a google search and came up with this long post in the San Francisco Comcast AVS thread that nails the problem:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9#post14638919

Anybody else run into this yet? Since I was not using HDMI previously, I thought it just might have been a "normal" quirk with the moto box, but that thread says it wasn't happening prior to the firmware update...

Interesting, I didn't have my LCD in Dot for Dot for a while now because on many of the HD channels while showing SD content there is the dreaded signal data showing at the top of the screen. I did use Dot for Dot prior though and I can confirm the green stripe on the right side of the screen with this update. Fortunately my TV has a scale mode that only scales to simulate normal overscan so not a biggy for me.

I don't see the "tears" that the other thread references however.
Well, I did some more investigating last night and what I found was that in the set up menu under Additional HDMI Settings> it was set to the 4:4:4 color mode. When I switched it to RGB the green stripe went away. The tear/fold is still there... but it's much less of an issue to me. Unless you are looking right at the fold/wrinkle line it's really not noticeable. Since it's way at the left edge of the screen it's pretty much out of sight, out of mind.

I thought I was getting a ton of audio stuttering and dropouts until I realized they were editing the foul language out of the Amy Winehouse concert I was watching.
I still find the editing more offensive than the language.

I have been using a SiliconDust HDHomerun with my HTPC for serveral months. I have been happily watching all my major networks in unencrypted QAM but I have lost ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and WB. Now all i have are my PBS channels. I have a strong internet connection and the PBS channels have very strong signals. Did Comcast start encrypting things they shouldn't? I have rescan so its not that Comcast just shuffled them around.

Perhaps a problem at your location or with your SiliconDust tuner?

I am in Beaverton, Cooper Mountain area, and my clear QAM is still working quite weel as expected. Granted, using the QAM tuner built-in to my Vizio 32" TV. So no Comcast changes here. Also, I am subscribing to basic cable for Comcast, so my analo0g channels are limited to chs 2-33 + 70-71. The in-the-clear (unencrypted) QAM channels start appearing at 72 and up for me. All the networks are received as expected plus many other public access, CSPAN, etc. No Discovery or other extended Basic are present either analog or unencrypted QAM.

If true, good news about FX HD. That's the obvious addition to the lineup.
They are making it really hard to stay with Comcast. Even with these additions we are only up to 40 HD channels where ALL of their competitors (DISH, DirectTV, FIOS) have upwards of 100 HD channels. On top of that Comcast is the highest priced for TV (of course with triple play discounts they are competitive). On top of all of this they have the most antiquated guide software, and most unreliable DVR boxes. The only reason I haven't switched is because FIOS is supposed to be coming to my area in the next couple of months so I want to give that a try. I know FIOS has it's warts also but it seems like it is worth a try.

My 3416 has been hosed since the firmware upgrade... The 15 second "back" button is completely worthless now, with pushes resulting in totally random jumps backward... Reset did nothing... The fast rewind functions still seem to work correctly most of the time at least but I've had to retrain myself to keep off the skip back. I read some comments from others regarding the issue. Anybody here have it, or have found a cure?
