WDBJALAN. I would appreciate a heads up when you disconnect TVGOS. Is it one box or two? I keep reading about program listings gone but time stamps still being sent.

Finally how many hours of PSIP data do you plan to transmit?

TVGOS is one box that is downstream of our mux. It just comes out of line. So you are saying there are not program listings there now?? I will have to go up to sales and look. They have the only TVGOS set in the building. If they (Rovi) are not populating the program guide now there might be an *unexplained failure* of the device.. smile.gif

As for PSIP, we transmit PSIP 24/7. That is a requirement. I think you might mean EIT (Event Information Table) and ETT (Extended Text Table)??

I don't see changing anything from the way we are doing it currently.

Thanks Trip, I will check into it.

BlueRidgeEng, did you make any changes?

Trip, do you see any signal quality changes on WBRA?

No changes here.

Pete-N2 wants to know if you'll extend the EIT/ETT beyond whatever it is now. The FCC minimum is 12 hours, but some stations transmit up to two weeks of guide data (WKPT does, I think). Right now on WDBJ, I see guide data through 6:30PM tonight.

WBRA runs through 6PM tonight on 15-1 and 15-3; 15-2 has just "DTV Program."

Others:

WSLS: Through 6:30AM tomorrow morning.
WSET: Through 6:30 tonight.
WWCW: Through 6:30AM tomorrow morning.
WFXR: Through 6:30 tonight.
WPXR: Through 6:30AM tomorrow morning.

WDBJALAN,

Sorry for the confusion. Let me restate:

I would appreciate a heads up when you disconnect TVGOS. Is it one box or two? I keep reading about program listings gone but time stamps still being sent in other cities where TVGOS is in the process of being disconnected.

(WOW -- after rereading my original post I realized I really screwed that one up. I hope I didn't create extra work for you!)

Trips got it right (as usual). We're trying to get stations to send at least 48 to 72 hours of EIT/ETT data. Our DVR's will use the data to populate the grid when TVGOS goes away. We then use that grid for scheduling recordings. Several stations around the country have increased the number of hours of program data sent and so far no reported problems.

The same request goes to BlueRidgeEng and I guess I'll have to call/email the other stations.

Some of the other stations do read here, but do not participate. Hopefully they will see your request here.

I thought we were doing like 24 hours. I will check on the first chance I get. The last two weeks have been just full on and out of control! It's been probably the most intense week I have seen since we moved from 2001 Colonial Ave. to 2807 Hershberger!
I started loosing TVGOS late last week. I waited for the time change and them did a factory reset on the DVR. Still no TVGOS. I guess it gone, but is was great while it lasted....
As of 2:00 pm today I an getting 24 hrs of guide from Ch 10.1, 2, 3 and 38.1 All others (7, 13, 15, 27) are all 12 hours. This is better than some parts of the country where some are getting none or 4hours.
At least I can schedule thru tonight on my dtvpal recorder.
I feel sorry for OTA folks who bought tv's that only receive guide data from tvgos.
I have been OTA only for over 4 years and have saved over $5,000. (Still have to put up with bad weather glitches)

I will look into it also to see what I can do to for us. I am not sure what is going on with the forum, but I am getting no notifications of postings, that is why I am behind the times on answering here. I will just have to remind myself to check it.
Also it looks like we will be shutting down 15.2, making notifications to cable and satellite providers now, so we can increase our HD bandwidth.

They upgraded the forum software a few months ago and not all of the settings came through. Check your profile and settings and make sure you're set to receive e-mails when things are posted.

Yay! While I would prefer to see something like MHz Worldview appear on 15.2, this is also acceptable. smile.gif

Will you renumber World to 15.2?

Blue Ridge PBS announced it will shut down the Norton and Marion transmitters. There was no mention of this on their fundraisers. They simply promoted concerts in Roanoke. Viewers were not asked to contribute to keep one of these transmitters on air. BRPBS operated for years with the Norton and Roanoke transmitters only. The coverage areas of these stations overlap a bit at Marion. Why not just shut down the Marion transmitter and ask for contributions for expenses at the Norton site? This would affect only a handful of people in mountain valleys near Marion. Mr. Baum did the promos for the Celtic Thunder concert as if he did not have a care in the world. Keeping the Norton site would ensure cable carriage and not dilute the supporter base in SW VA and the Tri cities.

WBRA is having some repairs done to the tower/transmission line
on Poor Mountain tomorrow. There will be interrupted service during the daytime
over the air, Dish network and DirecTv in the Roanoke-Lynchburg
Market. Sorry for the inconvenience, the repairs will be made
in a timely manner to reduce the amount of downtime.

Thank you,

David S.

We will be completing repairs today, since the
weather did not cooperate with us yesterday on
WBRA. Will not be down as long. Starting after
10am.

Thanks for your patience,

Anyone else having trouble with W05AA-D, the translator for WSET over on 12 o'clock knob? Last time I know for sure I could get a signal from it was Wednesday night but it may have been working after that. All I know now is it's not transmitting now and I wonder if last nights storm could be the cause. I plan to contact WSET of course but I wanted to see in the meantime if any of us could confirm it's down. For all I know hardly anyone but me uses the signal from it anyway but it's my only way to get WSET so I'm pretty concerned about it.

Good Morning,

We will be shutting down the 15.2 (SD rebroadcast of our 15.1 HD) service on April 30th at midnight, so we can add more bandwidth to our 15.1(HD) channel.

Just keeping everyone informed.

Well still no reception on the ch 5 translator channels. And haven't heard anything back via the WSET web contact form. Its still early after the weekend so I'll probably wait a bit longer before complaining but in the meantime Does anyone (Trip maybe?)have a good engineering contact at WSET that they could share with me? Thanks!

Great, looking forward to it! I was getting low to no signal in Lynchburg last night, anything happening?
I just checked 15 a couple of minutes ago and everything looks normal here. If anything the signal has been a little cleaner (3dB) at my location over the past couple of weeks.. Trip's graphs don't show any problems either.

Looking at the transmitter readings, I am not seeing any issues
that may have caused a signal drop. Let me know if you are still
having trouble.

Any new or not-often-operated electrical devices in or near your home? This includes light bulbs and things like that. That tends to trash the WBRA signal.

I have taken a look at this and have adjusted our time, can you confirm that you are getting more than 12 hours of programming now or do I need to get back to the drawing board?

Thanks,

David
