My dog heard my sub die before I did.

While watching TV one night my dog who lays next to my Power 8 sub in the corner of my bedroom started growling in the area of the sub near a french door. I thought he was nuts and my wife thought someone was in our house. Anyway, as a good hubby would do I scanned the house....nothing. Then later 10 minutes or so my sub starts putting out a loud test tone (with system off, sub in stand by) and doesn't quit... Damn I say(awesome I think really...upgrade time!) Well, the sub sb under warranty still but I sure may consider the REL sub I've been eying while waiting for the repair.

I have never seen this before. I assume it's electronic related. Does anyone know a fix?

I am looking for a low profile sub that packs a wallop. Any other recommendations?

How about the new Paradigm Siesmic 12?

4500 watt amplifier and a 12" woofer with over 2" of excursion... enough "wallop" for you?

Good news/Bad news. Good - It turned out to be the cable, so I'll only have to replace it. Bad - no upgrade yet.

I'll give the Paradigm a look.

Is that seismic 12 their new subs that came out with the signature series?

Your dog probably heard a resistor on it's way out. They emit a high-pitched whine.

Btw Rel subs are overrated, and overpriced. I own a Storm- it's OK for music duties, but not for HT. My SVS is much better.

Which Rel were you considering?

The Seismic subs are new subs for the Studio line. The new sub for the Signature series is called the Servo 2500 if I remember correctly.

I like yamaha's yst series they sound good and are reasonably priced.

on an unrelated note, does your dog(or any pet for that matter) really enjoy classical music?

I cant get my sisters cats to sit down in the basement unless i have classical music playing on my m60s.

The Seismic 12 is part of the new Reference line.

There is also a Servo-15 Signature being released.

dogs can hear much higher frequencies than we can and I would not be suprised if it hear the high pitched buzz before the cable bit the bullet so to say.........
