Tyler, TX - HDTV - Page 12

I can tell you that my plasma TV will pick up the local HD on the cable just fine. That is KYTX(1080i), KETK(1080i), and KLTV(720p). Those are not scrambled. But all the other HD channels are scrambled.

ok, i just watched studio 60 on 56.1 on my DTV and it wasn't in HD. even last night during the football game, it was unwatchable due to all of the pixellation. am i doing something wrong?

Leno no HD tonight,,,

THAT'S IT!

I'm on the verge of writing a letter to both KETK and the Tyler Morning Telegraph berating KETK for saying that they've got HD, but not putting it to use or not giving us a reason for not putting out HD programming. This is getting ridiculous and KETK is going to be left in the dust. Does anyone know if they are having problems with their equipment?

E-mail response from KETK

Ketk now broadcasts in HD all the time -technically-, on over the air (Ch56-1) out of Mt Selman 5 MWatts ERP and on Suddenlink Digital Cable.
I say technically because we are in true HD only during NBC Network prime time (7-10 pm weekdays) or week end sports events.
The rest of the time, we up-convert our standard definition signal.

i called them this morning to ask they why they broadcast the football game in HD but not other stuff and the guy wasn't aware of any problems, but said he would talk with his boss and get back to me.

I heard an ad on the radio for employees for the master control room in Longview. Any chance they are picking up some more people to be ready to go HD?

From KETK

Studio 60, Leno and Conan should have been HD, that was an operator mistake that I will correct.
The Ryder Cup should have been HD too, same thing and that is a shame.
As for the Today Show, I am in the process of sorting some HD feed issues with the Network
We air some of our NBC programing "out of schedule" which means we switch (SD) feeds from Eastern to Central time zone.
This capability is not yet available to us for HD, (but I am looking into that).
In the meantime I am getting contradictory information from NBC as to what time zone my HD feed receiver should be set;
If I set it correctly for Today show, then Prime time is off by an hour and we don't want that.
This is the situation here at KETK right now, and I while I apologize for last night and the Rider Cup, the Today show situation might be a little more complex to resolve.
Rest assured that I am doing all I can to get as much HD as possible to my viewers, and that this is still a work in progress.

i got home tonight and checked my tivo and it had recorded 'heroes' in hd! the bad part is though that it only got about 50 minutes of it due to pixellation and freezing issues.

I'm going to be moving to Tyler this month. Who do I contact for cable service? Is it still Cox or do I now look for Cebridge? Based on the discussions in this forum, it appears there is an HD package available. Is that correct? Also, is there an HD DVR available as well?

Thanks for the information. Moving to a new place is always fun!!

Go with Directv or Dish Network, Suddenlink HD lineup is not that great. You can get a antenna and get your HD over the air. Last time I heard Suddenlink does not have a good HD DVR and there DVR will not record HD channels only watch them unless they have changed it recently, Directv has less HD than Dish but Directv is supposed to add a lot of HD in 07. I hope this helps. I had cable for years and switched to Directv 4 years ago and have been very happy.

I have Suddenlink, formerly Cebridge, which was formerly Cox. As far as the HD tier goes, I get local ABC, CBS, and NBC, and I think FOX fairly soon. Also in HD I get Discovery HD, Universal HD, ESPNHD, HDNET, HDNET Movies, and StarzHD. I don't know about the HD DVR, as I just have a HD box.

I also have their 10mb/s internet service which is unbelievably fast, so I am hooked up with SuddenLink anyway. Once you get used to that speed, you can't go back.

In some of the nicer neighborhoods in town, a rooftop antenna that is visible from the street might be kind of frowned on, although you have a legal right to pick up OTA channels. I do have an antenna and rotor at the back of the house, which you can't really see from the street.

I put a large antenna in the attic and it works good. It looks nicer than being outside.
I keep checking to see if Fox is HD yet but no luck. Does anyone have some inside scoop?

Small antenna in the attic works really well for me.

Check the Shreveport/Monroe thread, as member FOX44CE is working with the KFXK HD Project.

And in regards to KETK and Today in HD, they are finally running Today in HD. Thank you KETK.

I have a new Dish Network HD DVR and connected an antenna to receive the local HD networks. I can get KLTV, KETK and the Fox 51 channel, but no luck with the channel 19. Do I need to have my antenna pointing a certain direction? I am close to 64 and 323 and its aiming SSE. Any help would be great.

stdjsb25 - Went back and found your post on your PC HD tuner card. How did this turn out?
Did you get it to work. I am strictly OTA and want to record my favorite HD - Digital shows but the only thing available with a digital tuner that will record is high dollar Tivo (and the contract) and these PC tuners. Any help would be much appreciated!

Dumped the card, and bought an DTV equipped TV set from Wal-Mart.....the card took up a lot of resources on my PC and I decided that it was easier to just buy a new set.

Thanks for the info. I guess i'll hold off that idea and suffer through my analog recordings when i don't catch it in HD.

If you do, make sure it's on a system that has a good video card and good memory and processor speed and hard drive space. My system was simply not up to specs.

Hmm.....still seems like the same old SD signal on my DTV set
post #357 of 1037
It was hit and miss last night during the World Series. Was switching back and forth from 4:3 to HD. Today it is back to the full screen analog for the football game.

Reply to Billdr. RE: KETK and questions below.

I just got off the phone with KETK re sunday night football. They are aware of the HD vs Dolby 5.1 problem and "are doing the best we can". I explained that all of the other stations in town (if you ex the SD on 51) have their HD up and running. Why cant they borrow on their expertise and get their act together.

They thik that they have it solved and won't know till next sunday. Lame excuses if you ask me. I won't watch KETK till they get that fixed as they refused to give me a waiver before the season because they were going to have the games in HD.

I complained to NFL (twice) and will just have to go to the FCC if it is not right next sunday. Has anyone got any updated infor on the equipment they are using???

Are they hosting the chan 51 signal as well? I noticed that it was in SD last weekend. I do have a FOX waiver and so can get the game in HD from the network broadcast.

We need more folks to complain to KETK when it is not right.

The note below is from July.... Same "we are doing the best we can..." crap.

I'm not sure going tho the FCC will do any good. They are the ones who have set up the laws to protect stations like NBC56 from the satelite network feeds.
The FCC is requiring all stations to be digital by a certain date, the exact date I can't remember. However, it does not require them to be HD.

I also wonder about the FOX HD progress, I was glad to hear it sounds like they are up to the testing phase. I have DirectTV waivers also, but look forward to Cowboys in HD.
Even if it's just a better picture of bad blocking & passing!

I was doing some work at the KFXK building in Longview today and talked to the Chief Engineer and he told me that they were doing some testing during game one of the World Series. That was why the HD was hit or miss during the game. He said they are working on getting the kinks out of the system and were hoping to have the signal fixed ASAP.
