Central Florida Winter 2004 thread - Page 9

mhdiab - Maybe I'm missing something but your friend would need to get a HD box not the regular Explorer 2000 or 3100 digital STB. AFAIK the only HD STB BHN has are the SA2000HD (No longer in use), SA 3100HD, and the new Pace box. I had all three at one time or another and each model keeps getting better. The price for the standard digital box and the HD digital boxes are the same except maybe a one time installation charge. It's a no brainer!

Don't have HDNET yet so I guess I'll have to wait until Tuesday when the preview starts. :)

I have a strange problem. My Pace box (BHN) keeps shutting off and resetting itself at random intervals. I had the BHN tech come out and he said that it had to do with low signal strength or low voltage - or something like that. He said that somebody else will come out and fix it from the outside? Is this a known issue? It has been more than a week and it still keeps having problems.

I have another tech coming out in 2 days. Anyone got any suggestions? BHN seems to be pretty clueless.
It might be over heating.
Overheating was my first thought but the box is in open space and well ventilated. I have experimented with it and it doesn't seem to help.

Also - the box does feel warm but not very hot.

Here is a response I got from Pace about my Pace 550 problem with DVI and my Mtisubishi....

This is a known problem that stems from the fact the Mitsubishi HDTV doesn't start the HDCP negotiation process in the time frame allotted by the HDCP spec. There will be a new software release available that extends the time that the Pace 550 will wait to start the negotiation process. This should be available by the end of February.

Pace Customer Support

My understanding of the HDCP issue is that PACE was not at fault. The set manufacturers are producing products wildly out of spec for HDCP and PACE is attempting to compensate.

Can anyone tell me if my tv can work with the Pace 550 dvi output. I have a Sony projection tv, model number kp-sw6500. I know i have a dvi input on the back of my tv, but i cannot find out if it dvi-a or dvi-d. All my manual says is dvi-hdtv.

Was anyone watching Las Vegas last night on WESH? I tuned in through BHN and it was not in HD. I tried calling WESH but only got their voice mail. I called BHN and customer service wnated to send a tech out even though I said all other HD programming were in HD. He then said he would e-mail WESH.

NBC did not air it in HD. Before blaming WESH always check the national thread here on AVS or the NBC website. Next weeks show is not listed as HD either.

I checked the listing on HDTV Galaxy and it said that it was in HD; and beside, I didn't blame WESH I tried calling to find out why it was not in HD as I called BHN but could not get an answer from them either.

I too was disappointed that Las Vegas wasn't in HD last night. It certainly is a shame that NBC can't produce all first run episodes of a program in HDTV.

Don - I'm fairly certain it is DVI-D on both ends. I don't believe DVI-A was used that much on TVs only in the computer world. If you look at the connector on your TV it should look the same as the one on the pace box. Here is a link to a good tutorial on DVI.

Nascar.com announced that NBC will be covering the Daytona 500 in HD. It figures that the first HD stock car race would be one that I have tickets for! I don't have any HD recording equipment, and any rebroadcast is sure to be 480i.

Maybe they'll do some more HD races later in the year, but until then, I'll have to put up with FOX's digital widescreen.
Well i should be receiving the Pace hd box Thurs. Not sure why i cannot just go and pick it up like i can with the other boxed. Charging $19.00 to swap out a box is a little high, especially since most people say that the techs do not know what they are doing anyways. Oh well, if all the features work like they are supposed to then i guess it will be worth it.
I've had a couple of techs who were excellent and others clueless, so it is the luck of the draw. I think the reason they don't allow swapping of the HD STBs is that the signal has to be almost perfect and they need to check it out. I tried to convince them to do a trade since I already had one HD STB but no luck. Kind of glad they did come out though as they replaced my drop from the street with RG11 so it was worth $19.

NBC stated in their new release that this would be the only HD race to be broadcast all season. Shame.

D***, UPN65 forgot to throw the switch from 4x3 analog pass through to 16x9 HD on Enterprise, and I thought they overcame that problem. The master control operator probably forgot to hit the switch.
I also tuned in for Enterprise tonight and waited 27 minutes for them to remember to flip the switch. We need to find a contact method for WRBW and WOFL.

Anyone else having problems with CBS channel 6? My picture was fine around the superbowl but now is mostly pixelated... I am in 34786.

Thanks

Well i got my Pace box today and so far i think it is great. I just need to figure what settings is best for me. The tech was good, but then again he did not have to do much since i had everything set up for him. He did seem knowledgeable about the box and it's features. I love the fact that i do not need to changes inputs when switching from hdtv to sd. I do hope they update the box so that it will remember what settings i prefer for hdtv,sd and digital channels, but hey it is still 10 times better then the old box. Now i have to look for some good, but reasonably priced dvi cables.
When you switch from HD to standard broadcast using the Pace box, how is the quality compard to using s video for standard channels?
Well i think the colors are a little bit sharper, but other then that i would say there is no difference. So far the best thing is that i do not have to switch inputs, even the audio from the sd channels passes through the digital outputs. Hopefully sometime next week i will get a dvi cable. I also have to make sure that the sd channels will pass through the dvi connection before i buy, otherwise i will most likely just stick with component cables for awhile.
I have to say having this free preview of the hd tier is making me want to sign up for it. The Peter Gabriel concert looks stunning!! Too bad there is not a NBA game to show this week.

Is the NBA All Star Game not enough for you?! :)

Ah, but there is an NBA game -- the All Star game will be carried on INHD!

BTW, for those having DVI issues, Pace should have a fix to us shortly. They've identified the problem, and a minor software correction should resolve it. But we have to test it first, so that we don't create new problems.
I have the Pace 550 connected via DVI cable to my projector... All channels go thru the DVI connection fine, only issue I have with the DVI connection is that if you turn on the Pace box before the Projector the pace box will NEVER try to renegotiate the connection without me either to disconnect the DVI cable and plug it back in or to reset the PACE box... I don't like resetting the Pace box cause it takes so long to go thru the initial boot process...

They need to have it would renegotiate every time that you power on the unit with the remote....
Should i get DVI-D or DVI-I cables? All these different types are really confusing me.
Just wanted to report that Brighthouse must have recently downloaded the latest Pioneer patches to the Pace 550....my Samsung HLN now works great with the DVI input!
Is anyone else seeing alot of blockness with the NBA HD all-star tonight? I have the Pace 550 box and wondering if it is my box or the broadcast? I have seen other HD channels also break up more than I would expect. The other issue I have with it is the digital music channels always breaking up like the box can't keep up. I still have my PVR box and those channels sound fine. Anyone else with a Pace Box have that problem with the digital music channels?

Thanks!

I agree that the B-Ball competition looks a little off.

On the other hand, the Lightning game looked fantastic, as have all the Lightning games on Channel 1000 on BHN. One question though: Does everyone have the picture go in and out during replays? Seems to happen on every replay during the Lightning games.

Second question - If Sunshine can show one or two games in HD, what stops them from showing all the games on HD? Or is it a BH decision to only show a few games in HD?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Yes, I also see the picture going in and out during the replays.
