New Hampshire - Comcast - Page 75

Hi wdwms ,

I remember about twenty years ago , there was an arcade game at the Salem Rockingham Mall , it was 3D and had a couple of planes flying around , no glasses to see it and I think it was a Sega prototype.

I too just can`t see wearing glasses ( if you don`t have to) to watch tv.
Although the occasional "eye-candy" usage I can see.

But you do have a point , there are still people that don`t even have HD ,, I have HD , but not BD , and I`m still holding out until I really need to get a cable box from Comcast ( I know , I`m missing out on a lot of HD ) .

When the time comes that I need a box , then maybe I can get a really good package price , where I already have there TV + Internet , then I can say "bye" to Fairpoint !!

Take care , later

IMHO 3D TV is a gimmick. An effort by the manufacturers to sell more displays. There really isn't a whole lot of 3D content available, from DVD, Blu Ray, or linear programming to make it worth anyone's while. Give it a couple of years...
I saw that alert on my TiVo and was intrigued as well. I agree though, all this 3D hype is a bit much. Saw Avatar & Alice in Wonderland in 3D and I have to say, the glasses annoy me. If you thumb through a Crutchfield or B&H catalog you'll see there's a move towards 3D TVs but I have to agree it's just not there yet. Blu Ray looks great and I love the convergence of devices (Netflix, Amazon & Slacker streaming to my Blu Ray player) but I"m with PaulS, I'll be waiting on the 3D. However, the new Sharp Quad-pixel set I'm interested in taking a look at.
I agree , in time the technology will evolve to the point where you don`t need the glasses.

That will be when I take the plunge !

Just can`t see wearing 3D glasses for a 3 hour movie.

Right now I only need reading glasses , so why push it !! LOL

Later ,

Gary 

O_BTW , I`m wanting to get more info on the new Sharps as well , they look sweet !

I am in Manchester and thinking about switching from DirecTV to Comcast. I was just wondering if TravelHD and MSNBCHD are available in Manchester yet?
I watched the 3-D demo at Bestbuy a couple of days ago and I must admit that it was very impressive. They have it set up in the Magnolia room with the new 50" Panasonic plasma and Blu-ray. The 3-D glasses are a bit uncomfortable and I would not want to wear them for 2 hours. However, the 3-D is incredible and I can see how people could want this set once material is out there to watch.

There will be some sports on TV in 3-D this year including the MLB all star game.
I don't doubt what little 3D source material that is out there is compelling. It's gotta look spectacular, if done right.

My point was that the manufacturers are putting the cart before the horse by ramping up production and sales of these displays when there is so little stuff to play on them. I know it's a chicken and egg situation, not unlike the initial HDTV roll-out, but it just seems a bit premature to me. I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of 3D format war, either...

I am not sure about Manchester, but for Nashua MSNBC is available in HD, but Travel is not. However, we are supposed to be getting a whole bunch more HD any day now.

Just got Comcast today. Takes a bit of getting used too compared to DirecTV. Only channel I am really waiting to get is Travel Channel in HD. Does anyone have The Weather Channel in HD? Also my internet connection got updated as well.

We have Travel HD in Concord. Weather HD along with about 40 other HD's are being added in Concord tomorrow.

hey guys i got a question. I will be moving from MA to NH (Exeter area) next month so will my 2 cable boxes RGN110 and Motorola DCH3416 and internet modem Cisco DPC3000 work over there or do i have to seek for a replacement ?

thanks for any help. i've been following this board for over a year and finally joined.

and before i forget i rather ask this question here then calling comcast's support service. you guys have far more knowledge!
Hi BLMNI and welcome to the forum. I live in the Nashua area and we use Motorola boxes here. I have the DCX3400 but I had the DCH3416 before. I am not familiar with the RGN110 so I am not sure if it is used here.
However, I would think that you have to turn in your boxes in MA when you get disconnected. You would then get new boxes when you move to Exeter. When I moved from one location to another within the city of Nashua, I was allowed to transport my cable box but I think that I would have to turn it in if I move from one town to another let alone from one state to another.

Looks to be an update list for Comcast-proper towns/cities. Those of us in the former-Adelphia towns already have most (all?) of the April channels, and a few (Encore, NHL, MTV, ComedyCentral, NBA) of the May additions.

Overall, that's a HUGE number of adds. If they go with a 3:1 stat mux, that means they're only gonna use about 17 analogs worth of channel bandwidth for these new HD's. Looks like the analog reclamation project is well underway...

BLMN...I am glad that worked out for you. It makes life easier to bring the equipment along with you rather than getting Comcast out to the new place after you move. Welcome to New Hampshire. I grew up in MA and moved here 25 years ago. I had planned to live in New Hampshire for about 5 years and move back to MA. I enjoy living here so I just stayed.

thanks

now talking about the new channels added, i had the privilege of having them since november last year here in MA now i am going to lose all of them until they update the area in NH (about June) that i'm going. oh well going back to standard version of some channels will be killer but time is running really fast so i can wait 2 months for the HD's

Here is hoping that Speed and BBC America get added to a future list....

It is amazing how little internal communication they have considering that "communication" is there business. Anyway...good luck on the move. In Nashua, we have had some but not all of the new HD channels since the conversion in late March. We are a little behind MA but we are getting there.

Anyone have the RNG-150 Comcast cable box ?

I just got mine yesterday , and here is what I think !!

It is way better than the "silver Scientific - Atlanta" cable box , and some what smaller as well.

Dimensions are 14"-W X 10"-D X 2.25" H

This box is HD ONLY , the output scan rate WILL NOT WORK WITH SD - TV`s.

Minimum is 480i , other res. includes 480p / 720p / 1080i.

It is a little confusing because it has Composite Video / S - Video output , of course it also has Component and HDMI ( 1 each ).

Other new features included:

Ethernet In
USB 2.0 / Both Rear and Front !

It comes with a TRU2Way Cable Card pre-installed. ( Void sticker if removed ).

It is black in color and come with the new dark gray Comcast branded remote.

The remote is not backlit and it is very hard to read , as it has white lettering on a dark gray background. ( younger eyes will be just fine )

The box is manufactured through a joint venture by Cisco Systems and Scientific -Atlanta.

The box is branded Cisco only.

So far I have found no remote codes the will work with my Sony XBR2 remote , so if anyone has them , please post , thanks.

Std-Def looks very good and is up-converted , HD looks even better than a cable card equipped HD-TV.

My hook-up :

HDMI from box to TV / Optical Out from box to my Yammy Amp.

Optical out from the tv WILL NOT give you a DD signal to your receiver / amp , so must use either the optical or D-coaxial out from the C-B.

Well that is it so far , just wanted to give a quick review of the new box !

Later ,

Hi Gary,
Can you tell us where in New Hampshire you are located? I just want to know if it is available in my area.
Also, does this box have the usual settings that the other non-DVR boxes? Does it have a channel display? What does Comcast charge for monthly fee?

Thanks
Richard
Hi Richard,

I live in the southern area of NH , and yes it has all the settings of the silver Scientific Atlanta box as far as aspect ratio / channel blocking / favorites and all the DVR controls , so it operates just about the same as any other Comcast remote.

Channel display and viewing info is displayed, and ALL of the many On-Demand channels are there.
As for as just channel one ?? there are more than that.

The DVR version I believe would be RNG-150N , however I can`t be sure as I don`t have DVR service , but the remote does have all the buttons for DVR such as PIP / "My DVR" -button" / Page Up & Down , etc.

As far as "am I paying a fee" ? I hope not !

Not supposed to be , but will know for sure on my June bill.

It is supposed to be part of the new Triple Play Preferred package , so if I do get charged , I`ll be using rabbit ears and a couple of tin cans and a very long pice of string !! LOL , because , well you get the idea !!

The only draw back is that there is NO 75 ohm RF out from the box , so if your like me you will be looking for a 3 way splitter and get just your tv back ( if you wanted ).

With QAM you might not always need to have the box on

So good luck , O__mine came via UPS , it is doubtful that the local outlets would have this box , but I can be sure , they may have tons of them.

There are more HD than listed ANYWHERE , I would provide a list or give you a number , but I don`t have that info.

With the Starz and Encore HD and all the free HD plus all the added HD channels , well all I can say is that many , but not all , are HD.

NO - HD weather / HD QVC / HD Hallmark / HD Speed and a few others are still missing.

AMC / TBS / TNT / USA / MSNBC / Fox News / Spike etc. ALL HD

I hope this helps !!

Sorry , it is still early

There is NO channel display on the box itself , and the box only has an On/Off button.

NO other buttons at all are on the box , so you need the remote !

This is cable, there's always a fee. Anyway, do you know if this new box will output from the HDMI and Component ports simultaneously. Apparently this is too difficult for the SA 8300 to fathom.

It looks like you may be using a different box than the Nashua area where I live. We use Motorola boxes not the Scientific Atlanta.
i had a similar box and the dark grey remote when i was living in MA but different model. mine was RGN-110.

got comcast all set here in NH now. got 2 motorola DVR boxes DCX3400, much smaller than the old one i had, the DCH3416. Interesting is that i had digital preferred package before + Sports pack and 1 international channel and i was spending a lot with it. now i got the premium package triple play + HSI ultra and i will pay less than what i was paying in MA before with only 1 DVR and 1 HD-non DVR box, amazing. now i will just wait for the updates here in this area (scheduled for june) and enjoy the extra channels.

Peace

Has anybody noticed all the changes in the QAM lately. It seems to me that I need to rescan every week. I was trying to watch NESN tonight and it no longer exists. It was recently changed to 29.12 but now there are no channels around 29 at all. I rescanned but it didn't help. I had over 80 digital channels in QAM before and it is now down to 46.
I`m not sure if it will output HDMI + Component at the same time.

I would check , but I would have to move all my stuff just to check , sorry , so I will pass the request to the next willing soul.

Can someone help "hawkeye1.3" , thanks.
