Seems like Adelphia's HD DVR boxes are not using the same software rev as other markets are using, because a lot of features are unavailable to us. You are right...no pass thru setting for resolution is stupid, especially when it was available on the other HD box. Why they decided to enable only one output is beyond me, you would think with high tech equipment and home theaters users in mind they would be adding more available output configurations instead of downgrading to only one.
Ok i did some more testing last night. I also tried the "VCR Archive" output, even though it is labled as an Input (go figure), and that gives a black/blank signal even if you enable Composit/Svideo/coax out! This is crazy, its almost like the boxes can be used for HD and that is it!
Two interesting things i found:
read page 14, it shows how to change the resolution settings (fixed, pass through, upconvert, etc). Looks like Adelphia doesn' t let us change that and it is set on fixed. grrrr.
Read page 8: "The S-Video Out connection is active only if the 8000HD has been set up to be in standard definition only mode." Well that is useless!, and on page 9: When you set up the 8000HD in HD mode, the
connector Y/V Video Out becomes the HD Y video output (Y portion of the YPbPr video output). So it effectively DISABLES the composite out!!
I'm really ticked off at this box..
