I don't watch a lot of OTA (Dish Network) but when channel 9 finally switched over a few weeks ago I was impressed. It seems to me that the 720P broadcast produces a slightly better picture than 1080I broadcast of channel 3 and 12. There is one big gotcha however. Anything that has been produced on film (i.e. most movies, some broadcast series and even some commercials) have a terrible skipping problem. The audio is fine but the picture freezes at a regular interval. It makes it completely unwatchable for me. I think the 3:2 pulldown process from ABC is goobed. Maybe the local station is responsible for that, if so channel 9 needs to fix this.

I saw a couple of post that maybe the same problem. Has anybody else noticed this?

Cheers

Has anyone got the increased internet speed? I'm in Ooltewah and do not have the faster speeds. I'll reset my modem tonight and test again.

Here is the email I got from them today.

You wanted to know when the new Comcast High-Speed Internet would be available in your area. Well, it's here! Powered by our advanced fiber-optic network, it's now faster than even our previous highest speeds. In fact, it's officially our fastest Internet ever.

Already a customer? If you're a Performance or Performance Plus customer, your connection speed is being automatically doubled for free! But if you want to upgrade to our fastest speeds of up to 50 Mbps, click here to see your options.

I'm in Ooltewah. Before the announcement I was getting download at about 23mbs, upload at 2.5mbs. I upgraded my service a couple of weeks ago (from 6mbs to 16mbs) but was not getting the increased speed. They came out the same day I called and replaced the older modem. If you have the blue modem, it can't get any higher than 6mbs. Haven't checked yet to see if I'm getting even higher speed since the announcement.

I talked to Comcast (I rather bang my head against the wall) and was told that the nodes have not been updated in my area yet and should be completed by next weekend. He also said that my DOCSIS 1.1 cable modem should work for anything except the 50 Mbps speed. Although it doesn't support speedboost and I would need to get a 2.0 or newer modem to support that.

After years of consistent service - about 2 weeks ago my cable modem started dropping badly - 3 new WAN IPs in 2 days. I swapped out modems and it's a bit better, but drops about once or twice a day. This is getting old.
I asked about a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and they said none were available yet.
So - only downgrades so far for me.

Oh - and several channels are missing like FUSE. What's up with that?!

You may need new connections on your coax cable from Comcast, I had similar problems a few years back and they changed the connectors on the cable it's been fine since. In my case, the internet was fine and then it would lose connection for no reason, but when it was working it seemed to be full speed. It might affect certain stations also.

Comcast has been out in the recent past and re-terminated everything.
I've scheduled a service call to deal with the missing channels - We'll see....

Ok... now I don't feel like I'm going nuts. I noticed this also. I'm getting WTVC Channel 9 via Comcast QAM. I thought maybe I had screwed up my MythTV system, but I guess it's the station. I have noticed this happening on some primetime HD shows but not others.

The last shows I remember noticing this issue (where the video seems to either jump, or go into ffwd for a split second to catch up to the audio every few seconds) were the primetime shows Eli Stone and Samantha Who over the past couple of weeks. I also remember this same thing happening when they were running some sports programming over the weekend several weeks ago. I think it was a NASCAR race.

Does anybody notice the diagonal rolling bars effect on CW or is it Comcast cable company?

Yep! I have DirecTV and the local HD via an OTA antenna. The rolling bars are present on both, so it is most definitely the station.

Ok, I don't know how many Tennessee Vols fans are out there, but does anyone have any information about this new "SEC network" TV station that Comcast will be carrying?

It would appear that the first game of the season for the Vols vs. Western Kentucky is on this new station. But I don't know if it's available yet, or when it will be. The game is on Sept. 5th with a 12:20 pm kickoff.

I've tried digging around on Google, but it only seems to mention that this typical game that you would have seen on Raycom Sports before (locally channel 53) will be on ESPNU?

I don't get ESPNU on my ClearQAM selection. So I'm hoping it will be a station that magically appears before Sept. 5th.

Sweet! Thanks crnbread!

The only question I have now... which probably won't be answered until Sept. 5th is will it air on both WDSI and WFLI... or will it air on one or the other?

We were just discussing that at work today. We were also wondering if any of the broadcasts would be in HD. I hope that CW puts out a feed than they did with Raycom. Most of the Raycom games last year were almost unwatchable. I watched a couple of games while in Knoxville with their Raycom affiliate and the picture was crystal clear.

Here is a May 2009, press release. I don't see anything about ESPNU-HD though.....

Seems sometime this week Comcast killed 14-70 analogs. Only thing left is 2-11, 13, 95, & 96.

3 tuners (350, 500) are basically useless now. Even w/ the 2 DTA's I have I can only salvage 2.
Anyone else having problems tuning ESPN & ESPN2 in clear QAM on Chattanooga Comcast? My tuner cards won't lock on those two channels today.
I have an LCD TV with a digital tuner (of course), but I'm not getting ESPN or ESPN2 in ANY format. Also, there are no HD channels coming in today. Yesterday when I reset my TV and had it auto search for all the channels, I had 2 of the 3 main networks in HD. Now- nothing. If they tell me I need a box to bring in the ESPN channels (at my expense, since I'm using the 2 freebies on standard TV sets elsewhere in the house) I'm going to tell them to stick it in their ear and switch to Dish or DirecTV.

Anyone else with built in tuners having the same problems?

I ran through all the QAM channels on my MythTV box. I can still receive all the clear QAM channels (including all of the HD locals and their subchannels) EXCEPT for ESPN and ESPN2.

I checked the channel map you can access through the diagnostic screen on one of my DTAs and ESPN and ESPN2 digital starter QAM channels have not been moved as far as I can tell. Only other thing I can think of is that they have somehow turned on the 'basic' security that is built into the DTA to lock out clear QAM tuners from tuning in those 2 channels.

On my LG LCD: (of course it doesn't behave the same as my Sammy but I can't check it right now)

ESPN is 49-3 (54-10 in my HDHR lineup from last week)
ESPN2 is 49-4 (54-11 in HDHR)

guess I need to rescan before the race this afternoon. Dang I wish they'd quit screwing with the lineups.
Part of your punishment for not renting a box from them, they can bounce channels around all over the place and boxes compensate, QAM tuners have to rescan.

Both of those (49-3 and 49-4) say "channel not available" for me. I called Comcast and the reps they have (at least the 2 I've spoken with) are clueless about TVs with built in digital tuners.

All I want is ESPN and ESPN2. I'm not hooking a digital adapter up to my LCD TV and losing the 5 channels I now get in HD. I'm also not paying another $11/month for a second HD receiver. If Comcast can't figure out a cost free solution, I'm moving to Dish Network. My level of frustration with them is to the point I'll move even if it's more expensive. First we were told "if you have cable, you won't be affected by the conversion." Then we were told "you need the adapter if your TV doesn't have a digital tuner or you don't have a digital box." Now I'm being told that I need the adapter even though I do have a digital tuner in my TV if I want to watch ESPN/ESPN2.

If that is going to be an ongoing problem, I'm definitely switching...

I've rescanned an I've yet to find them. I found two channels on the frequency associated with QAM ch 49 (375Mhz).. but and they say ESPNHD and ESPN2HD... and they won't lock.

I have no clue what they have done...my DTA still says that ch 28 & 29 are Espn and ESPN 2 and the dianostic channel lineup page it still says they're on 375mhz...

I don't care if they bounce a few channels around from time to time.. as long as they leave them in the clear... if they are going to turn on some kind of security.. which allows only Comcast Digital Boxes and DTA's to recieve them.. well then that's the end of my subscription...

BTW.. checked the HDHR lineup site as of this afternoon.. ESPN and ESPN2 are no longer listed.

For 37379 they're still on Zap2It as of a couple hours ago. When I did the lineup today I had it checked to "call home." WGN in HD is on 53-1; haven't had that one before as far as I can tell.

Just for grins, here's my xml from the HDHR app. There are about 3 channels disabled because they're N GA locals that don't map to anything up here. I also disabled the lower-channeled digital music since they're duplicated on 62-x

Copy of Digital Cable.xml.txt 51.3828125k . file

Thanks for attaching that list. Maybe I can make some heads or tails of my problem. Although at first look I was rescanning the 375mhz transport looking for ESPN and ESPN2 which matches up to your HDHR txt file.. and found two channels but couldn't lock onto them. I guess I'll have to see if somehow the MythTV QAM database has wrong info in it for those two channels that is somehow preventing it from locking on.

Well, I guess it's official (or at least as official as I'm going to get from any Comcast employees). I went to the Comcast office at lunch today and asked why I could pull in all the digital channels on my TV except ESPN and ESPN2. After the service rep called 3 different people to try to find a logical answer, the only response I got was, "you have to get a box to get those channels". So basically they are blocking those channels because they know guys will do whatever is necessary to get ESPN... So long Comcast, hello Dish Network.
