Man, sell me back that 4228. After the hurricane I decided to put my antenna in the attic so that I would not have to take it down before another storm. I could use it now if you don't need it. Say the word and I'll come back out and buy it back.

Great subject matter in light of our lack of DT in NO. I am on the verge of a VU 190 purchase. I am trying to receive Baton Rouge HD. I have the small $40 ratshack antenna and I am able to receive baton rouge ABC Channel 2.1 at about 30%. Though the signal is not solid I am supprised I receive anything. The antenna is mounted 25 feet high, with no amp and a cable run of only 25 feet. Just in case anyone is interested, the antenna feeds a samsung hd receiver and a infocus x3 projector. The HD clarity is amazing even with a 100" image. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

FYI I am located on the Westbank approximately 70 miles from baton rouge. Thanks

Do some reading on the Channelmaster 4228 before you buy that 190. I don't know if that RS antenna will do what you want. I was kind of wondering if I could get BR HD in Slidell with the 4228 even.
I have been told that the 4228 is great. But, I am concernned about VHF reception. Specifically, channel 2.1-baton rouge, since the superbowl will be broadcasted on ABC.
I tired to get the BR stations with my 4228 when I was in Metairie with no luck. Pearl River is further away, so do not have much hope of getting the BR stations.

Last night I was able to receive ABC and monday night football from Baton Rouge using the 60 mile antenna and no amp. No signal loss, must have been a good night for reception since my meter topped out at 46%. I will continue to research antenna's and post my findings.

Also, RGATHRIGHT- Are you able to receive Biloxi-Gulfport since you are in Pearl River?
WVUE 8.1 is back...I re tuned last night with my rabbit ears and there it was. So now we have WWL AND WVUE. Now we need WDSU to get their HD signal back up and we'll be on our way...

I did not try it, but will when we come back home from Houston the next time. Any idea if these stations are operating?

A little help from a BR HD'er here....

Currently WGMB 44(Fox) and WVLA 33(NBC) were temporarily using a "bootleg" way of sending out their DT and NTSC signals through the old antennas as Katrina & Rita delayed the tower crew from the antenna swap. But as of 12/06 the DT signals are gone and their NTSC signals are operating on the sister stations instead. According to a contact with the towers they are now once again working on swapping the antenna's. It should be a pretty hot signal at 1000kw at 522 meters! So keep looking for their signals to come back on 34 and 45.

WBRZ-DT is on VHF 13, I also have a 4228 UHF antenna and the high VHF gain is decent but if you are really looking to pull in WBRZ I'd focus more on a high gain VHF antenna instead of hoping to pick it up with a UHF antenna.

On another note on the Cox BR system we also receive ABC, CBS, FOX, WB, NBC, and PBS in HD on in the clear QAM channels, even on basic only accounts. Can you do the same on the N.O. system?

i'm in covington and have charter and no you can't get any HD without a box from them. I'm really wanting fox b/c 24 will be starting soon charter doesn't offer fox in HD even if HD local was working.

HD local IS working.

I am watching the Billboard music awards on 8.1 right now. Also everything is back up except for WDSU 6.1,WYES 12.1, and WNOL 38.1.

I am recieving 4.1,8.1,20.1, 54.1 49.1, all pretty good signal too, for the bastardized antenna I am using...

Have you tried to get them with a QAM tuner? AFAIK the cable system isn't supposed to encrypt the OTA HD channels.

channel 54-1 looks like crap --- the image smears -- no HD as far as I know. Any one know any more?
I spoke to a station engineer at WGNO. He said they will be sending HD programming via the PAX 49.2 channel they are currently broadcasting on by the end of the month (Dec) And possibly mapping it to 26.1

The plan for their own tower to be back up and running is for March/April (1st quarter)

They also own WB38 WNOL. That will not be online for HD until their own tower is online.

So, although they will be broadcasting three other sub channels on DT49 and the bandwidth will be reduced for the ABC HD transmissions it will be better than SD.

Swing your antenna's toward BR guys... WVLA on UHF 34 and WGMB on UHF 45 are back on. I'm not sure if they are operating at full power yet but WVLA has increased by 25% since they took the channel offline. I'm not sure about WGMB as this one was at 100% before the change.
Thanks for the info. WVLA is crystal clear from 2 miles south of MSY (CM4228). WGMB crashes my Sammy STR-165 with a strong carrier, but no picture.

Yes, I'm getting good reception with my Terk indoor ant. on the floor under a chair on 4.1, 8.1, 49.1, 49.2, 49.3, 49.4 and 54.1. You are right about 54.1 being horrible....worse than my Sat pic. Also, I hope you are right about 49.2 turning to HD by the end of the month...it would be nice to watch LOST in HD. And if 49.1 would turn HD too, then we'd have everything but 38.1...but not much comes on that anyway hehe Come on PAX, help us out and get that WDSU and WGNO on HD!!!

Per the WVLA(NBC) and WGMB(FOX) Chief Eng, WGMB and WVLA's transition to full power is now complete. According to the FCC documentation their CP was for 1000kw for digital 45 and 34 on their 500meter mast.

I bet you can pick these signals up in N.O. with a decent outdoor rig.

Anybody know what channels are unencrypted QAM locals from Cox in New Orleans? I found 81.6 to be NBC HD, and that one goes in and out. My tv (Panny 42PD50) finds a ton of digital channels after a scan, but most are blank, except for the 40 music choice channels.
Got my response for a waiver for local HDTV channels back. All denied.

I have charter - hammond and the local HD channels are in the clear and should be decodable by a QAM tuner without a cablecard. Of course, there's only one channel right now.

BTW, about two weeks ago I began receiving the HBO-HD and Showtime-HD feeds without an HBO or Showtime subscription. Its either a mistake or charter is attempting to compensate for not having the local HDs available.

(WGMB crashes my Sammy STR-165 with a strong carrier, but no picture) I have the same problem here in Kenner. Just a scrambled picture although my Samsung STR 151 shows a strong signal. At least our local Fox is now broadcasting. I cannot figure out how to receive the channel or is this a Sammy problem ?

No problems reported in the Baton Rouge thread with the OTA signal. Actually as of today 44-2 was added which is WBRL21 (WB). The user named "33/44 CE" (Chief Engineer) posts in the BR thread, he/she might be able to help you out with this problem.

I also found today channel 81.3 which I think is PBS-HD, currently showing in full 1080i a program about religious art.

I wouldn't mind knowing about these unencrypted Cox channels from New Orleans as well. I also get 81.6 as NBC, and I receive 53.1 which is ABC, though it does not broadcast in anything but 480i. I did not know about PBS on 83.1. I will have to see if that comes through.

Any others?

Im new to the HD scene. It seems that new orlean does not have much to offer in ota HD. Channel 4.1 and 81.6(on and off). Other channels show 480i, but its more like analog cable to me. I hope we get on the ball with HD. I wonder is Katrina had somthing to do with it.

I live on the MS Gulf Coast (Long Beach) about 1/4 mile north of the beach and very little unaffected by the storm. I recently installed a new hp 5880n DLP along with HR10-250 with my OTA CM 4221. Aiming and picking up WLOX (13-1 ABC) and WXXV (25-1 FOX) along with the New Orleans market has been difficult. Even though the compass spread is so great that I can get both of my locals along with 4.1, 8.1, 20.1, 54.1 out of NO pretty good. All 6 channels get about 50% on the signal but about every few minutes it will drop to 0 and the come back up. It is very annoying to say the least. I'm working on another solution in the antenna forum to try to get all of the stations without the use of a rotor which is not an option. I moved my 4221 from the attic to a 25' mast just yesterday and I saw very little improvement if any at all which I found odd.

I'm wondering if the CM Advantage 3020 will help out in my situation? I already have the RS amp installed and it appears to help but not very much.

Also, I did apply for HD waivers back in Dec 05 and was denied by WWL, WLOX, WXXV, WGNO. WVUE and WDSU have not replied so I hoping that the 30 day rule will come into play for me.

Katrina has everything to do with it. Before the storm 4.1,6.1,8.1,12.1, 32,38.1,,49.1,49.2,49.3,49.4, 80.1, 54.1

Does anyone have any idea when ABC HD will be back up in N.O. Superbowl is less than a month away, it sure would be nice to watch in HD. By the way, I received my card from Directv. Denied waver for all stations in N.O.
