Amazing as you roll through the list and see the same names on a lot of the filings!

Well then, if having to re-file for digital broadcasting is not required if you already have a granted CP for analog transmitting, then KQHO got through by the skin of their teeth! It was only 11 days ago now that they were granted their analog CP on out of core channel 56...

I thank Trip for giving me the significance of the "D" in front of the call sign in the TV Query.

Why in the world would you let a protected channel just fade away like that? I mean it was classified a CA, and protected from interference. It was the only CA in our area...

It makes no sense to me.

What struck me about this is that all of these apps have been on the books for almost 10 years!

I mean geez, these guys, (and I fully understand the frustration of filers who get granted and never go on the air) filed these apps, paid a filing fee, and have waited for 10 years only to find out that the changes they make to go digital will cost them another filing fee of $705 when the FCC just sat on these apps without doing anything for 10 years! Another example of "Our government at work for you!"

If the full power transition got in the way, then the FCC should have never opened the LP filing window back in August of 2000. I don't know how many apps were in the list, but it was a bunch. That is a lot of money that the FCC snookered out of these people. Yeah, I don't like green filers anymore than the rest of you, but that is just downright fraud in my opinion. We are talking A LOT of money here...

I am no friend of green filers and they stick in my craw, but so does this. Just ain't right. They should make it a minor mod, with no fee. It is the only right thing to do, but I know it's not gonna happen. 10 years to wait for action is ludicrous.

However, I wonder just how many will re-file... That will be interesting to watch. And maybe it will be another 10 years before any action is seen again. The FCC can just keep bleeding them.

My best so far was after June 12....when only the nightlight analogs were left and WRC-TV out of Washington DC (4 iirc may have been 3) was coming in. I have done better on FM though...PIttsburgh or some stations out of CO...
(One of my former FM stations was heard for over an hour in Canada! Sent the listener a nice reply along with a bumper sticker..probably the only one in CA for that Texas FM

And I got XET channel 6 from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. That is maybe 600+ or so miles away ... that is probably my furthest catch, although I have watched the FOX station out of Orlando, Florida here at my house before, but that was years ago.

I am getting KAVU channel 25 (RF 15) out of Victoria this evening. Don't get it very often.

And a new one for me! KNIC-DT 17.1 (RF 18) out of Blanco, Texas.

An old friend, WVLA 33.1 out of Baton Rouge is here as well.

I got nothing to the West. I can't even pull Houston tonight. The forecast doesn't show tropo kicking in until tomorrow morning and lasting for several days. I can barely get KATC in Lafayette, but that's all.

I'm in Katy and getting KATC at 62%, KADN at 59%, KBTV at 100%!!!, KVHP at 75%, KLRU Austin, and KAVU. I have a CM 3021 in the attic with no amplifier pointed at Missouri City and a Dish ViP 622 receiver.

I was not getting the bulk of the Houston stations either last night except KRIV was coming in with drop-outs, but KPRC was coming in around 75%! The only houston station that had a good steady signal. Makes no sense...

KFDM has filed comments related to the NPRM stating that they still support the substitution of channel 25 and the deletion of channel 21 in final allotment for Beaumont.

They go on to say that if channel 25 is adopted, that KFDM intends to apply for a CP on channel 25, and if such CP is granted, they fully intend to build and operate a facility on channel 25

Tropo was pretty good last night. Set a new personal distance record XET-6 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon...580 miles.
KATC is back in Katy, bouncing from 57-70% with an occasional dropout. Oddly, it is the only non-local coming in tonight.

On another note, I am about 18 miles from KRIV with a UHF only antenna pointed straight at them and my signal was in the mid 60s last night. Some other co or adjacent channel must have been giving them hell in other parts of the viewing area.

I am getting KTXH TV out of Houston TX. right now here in Baton Rouge. I have other channels trying to come in on my Zenith DTT901 converter box. keep checking every 15 to 30 mins. to see whats coming in at your locations and post what you get here on the forum. Tropo is getting stronger more channels will come in as the night goes on. Last night i did not get anything new only new orleans WWL 4. I did get XHAAA La Caliente 93.1 out of mexico.

OMG!!! we may get florida tonight!!!
I am getting KENS from San Antonio for the first time since the transition.

And most of the Houston stations tonight.

And KNCT virtual 46.1 (RF48). Is this Waco? If so, first time since transition too.
KNCT is licensed to Belton just southwest of Temple. Last night was better. Could get all Houston to the West and WVLA in Baton Rouge to the East.

Tonight should be the best night. Have fun.

Tropo bordering on historic the past two days. Besides recatching most New Orleans (c. 520 mi) and other Louisiana/Mobile/Pensacola items, I got some new ones with WLPB-DT-25 (BR), KMSS-DT-34 (Shreveport), WHLT-DT-22 (Hattiesburg), and WAIQ-DT-27 (Montgomery). Very similar conditions to Mar 30-Apr 1, 1974 (unzip my FM log at http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/zip/fmlog74.zip). A dry line and cold front on Friday will put an end to it here soon though.

the amazing thing is that i received 94.5 WFLA Panama City, Florida and all of these channels in my house using no outdoor antenna . i was only using a old SANGEAN ATS 818 shortwave radio on FM Band with its rod antenna. whats good about this radio is the way you can tune stations. lets say for example you can tune 98.50mhz or 98.55mhz. i also received XHAAA 93.1 Mexico with no outdoor antenna using rabbit ear VHF indoor antenna on a Pioneer VSX-516
receiver. could have did better with outdoor antenna.

Back in the early 80s is when I caught a 94.x out of Philly in Port Arthur while driving..walked into a local Radio Shack, tuned into the Philly station with one of their tuners on an indoor dipole...and there it was..the store manager, who was a good friend of mine, walked over and as we talked, they did a weather intro on a song; saying clear skies and temps in the 40-50s (and this was late May and it sure wasnt that outside!), his eyes went bugeyed!!! Then they did a legal ID....I think he used that opening to sell a couple of tuners, etc

When the conditions are right, you can pick up a lot even on a piece of spaghetti Ok,,,maybe not THAT good...We are just coming out of the bottom of the 11 yr solar cycle...when it peaks, freqs well into the VHF and sometimes lower UHF frequencies have skip like the lower freqs (where normally VHF-UHF is limited to line of sight)..right now we are seeing tropo (weather related)...tropo can be long distance...and sometimes is limited to certain areas...(Like an AC duct between the two areas)
