I emailed KBMT about the sound problem, and here's the response I got:
The problem is known and appeared after the move to the transmitter site. We are currently working on up converting our analog and installing more equipment, this should cure everything.
He failed to mention what this mysterious "equipment" might be. If it's the STL dishes they're waiting to install, we could be looking at sound problems for at least another couple of weeks.
I asked about an update on the HD status, and here's what he said:
As for broadcasting true 720p programming I can't give you a date because we have to change out our STL and Nextel corp. is involved with that. I do know our contract with Nextel has cleared the engineering phase and is now with their Lawyers. I'm hoping to see a contract soon. We already have the new STL microwave dishes and are planning to install them in the next couple of weeks. After we have the contract, MRC tells us it could take up to 6 weeks for delivery of the microwave transmitters and receivers.
Looks like it's going to take longer than initially thought for HD broadcasts on KBMT. Say a couple of weeks to iron out the contract, plus the 6 he estimates (probably more, since these estimates are always on the low side), then who knows how long to figure out the kinks which I'm sure will appear, I'd say we're looking at Christmas before we get to see Lost in HD.
Hopefully they will at least get the sound fixed before then.
DISH UPDATE: I called Dish yesterday, and they said that there was one local station holding out (wanna bet that was Uncle Larry?) but that issue has been worked out, and all the locals should be "live" within 2 to 3 weeks. They said all the equipment is in place and their satellites already have the channels allocated (whatever that means, I don't know anything about the satellite stuff).
As soon as the locals are live, I will be dropping TWC like a brick. Anyone here who has Dish, please let us know as soon as the locals are up. Looks like they will beat DirecTV to the punch.
