A priest, a doctor, and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers. The engineer fumed, "What's with those guys? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes!" The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golf!" The priest said, "Here comes the green-keeper. Let's have a word with him." He said, "Hello, George. What's wrong with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?" The green-keeper replied,"Oh, yes. That's a group of blind firemen. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime." The group fell silent for a moment. The priest said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight." The doctor said, "Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if there's anything she can do for them." The engineer said, "Why can't they play at night?"

What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers ? Mechanical engineers build weapons. Civil engineers build targets.

The graduate with a science degree asks, "Why does it work?" The graduate with an engineering degree asks, "How does it work?" The graduate with an accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?" The graduate with an arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"

Three engineering students were gathered together discussing who must have designed the human body. One said, "It was a mechanical engineer . Just look at all the joints." Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections." The last one said, "No, actually it had to have been a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"

Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

An engineer was crossing a road one day, when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess." He bent over, picked up the frog, and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn back into a beautiful princess and stay with you for one week." The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want." Again, the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket. Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess and that I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?" The engineer said, "Look, I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog - now that's cool."

Hmmm...... # 2 just happens to also be my signature..!! Oh & BTW, I definitely agree with # 4!! (Ref my profile)!

found on the Internet:

The physicist would say that the volume of this cylinder is divided into two equal parts; one a colorless, odorless liquid, the other a colorless, odorless gas. Thus the cylinder is neither full nor empty. Rather, each half of the cylinder is full, one with a gas, one with a liquid.

The "Physicist" would need to define which gas and it's properties to determine whether his statement would be completely accurate.. :-)

The channels listed are basically the SD and HD broadcast channels:KBTV,KFDM, KBMT, KUHT,KUIL, and KITU.

They go on to state that a rescan will be required to resume watching these channels.

It might be interesting to call customer service when this happens and listen to them try to sell you on getting a set top box because that's the only way to get HD channels...

At least they are letting people know.. I've known other cable co's to not tell anyone.

Shouldn't they list as non-encrypted or in-the-clear instead of unencrypted? The locals aren't encrypted when they get them

Lately there have been commercials advertizing KATC news programs that seem to be HD, as there are no side bars, just a full screen. During a local program telecast a couple of weeks ago, they mentioned how nice it would look with the new HD cameras. Could it be getting close? I remember someone posting a few months ago that a target date of late 2011 was possible.

During the LSU-Georgia game today, KLFY had a station break anouncing "KLFY in HD coming soon". Hard to imagine a company not that long ago filing bankruptcy, will beat it's main rival KATC to the HD punch! Now, how to interpret what coming soon means is anybody's guess.

Nope, I was wrong, "unencrypted" was the word they used. The ad is in the Beaumont Enterprise again this morning... They do define it as "in the clear" and also refer to it as a QAM tuner and a "clear QAM device".

Industry icon Donald Rohn passes away at 72

November 23, 2011 - Donald D. Rohn, an industry leader in communications tower manufacturing, passed away on Nov. 21 at age 72 at Riverview Manor Care in East Peoria, Ill. where he was being treated for an injury he suffered from a fall a number of months ago.
In the late1950s Don began working at his father Dwight's tower manufacturing plant prior to graduating with a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Illinois.
Founded in 1948, Rohn's primary product line was small residential television towers.
But as TVs evolved in the 1950s from utilitarian wonders to pieces of fine furniture art, coupled with speakers that were as large as the screen, the tower structures didn't change.
In fact, they began to show considerable weathering as rust streaked sides of homes they were attached to.
Rohn was the country's first manufacturer to see the need for galvanizing their towers and built their own galvanizing plant.
The extra hot dipped galvanizing production cost paid handsome dividends for the company in a competitive market as their sales increased dramatically, requiring the company to expand to 40 employees.
Although the company had grown by building small guyed towers, Rohn's largest tower order ever, a major contract for towers for Nashua, New Hampshire-based Sanders Associates was sold in 1965.
Don told Wireless Estimator last year that the deal provided the opportunity for the company to consider other manufacturing options in the telecommunications industry and they moved quickly to capture the opening.
Don was part of the team that introduced the Rohn catalog, a catalyst for the company's rapid growth as it became the largest tower manufacturer in the world for a number of decades.
The Rohn catalog was iconic in the industry and was known as the "tower bible". Its wealth of products and industry information served as the basis for buyer and design decisions for many years.
Retiring as Rohn's president in 1997, Don was an early advocate of climber safety and created a company culture that saw Rohn provide safety climb systems before it became an industry requirement.
"He knew that non-professionals were climbing towers and he went to great lengths to warn people because it was the right thing to do," said David Brinker, Rohn's Vice President of Engineering.
"Don truly put his heart, soul and life into the company and made it grow the way it did throughout the cellular boom. He will be long-remembered as a leader in the tower industry," Brinker said.
Bill Carlson, President of Tower Systems, Inc. of Watertown, SD, recalls working with Don on numerous projects since the 1960s.
"It would be typical for me to be in the office on a Sunday and whenever I had a question, I would pick up the phone and usually Don was there to provide assistance," Carlson said.
"We communicated more on the weekends than during the week. I respected his work ethic and he was the type of person that knew what was going on at all ends of the business."

Competitors always spoke highly of Don's business acumen.

"Don was a really fine individual. I remember meeting him and his brother Richard for lunch many years ago in Kankakee, ILL. We were competitors, but it was good to see that they nor we had three heads. I got to know Don later in the 90's and Pi-Rod and Rohn came very close to merging," said Myron Noble who was then president of PiRod.

"It is a shame that Don did not have the opportunity to continue to be part of Rohn. I always marveled at what great shape Don was in. He was a good person and he will be missed by many," Noble said.

Born on Sept. 3, 1939, in Beardstown, Ill., Don was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Lela M. (Dodds) Rohn.

Surviving are his
wife, Joyce of Dunlap and three sons, Thomas D. (Belinda) Rohn of Dunlap, Timothy D. (Malisa) Rohn of Peoria and Alan D. (Wanda) Rohn of Bradenton, Fla. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Emma, Kyle, Hunter, Kamy and Daniel; one brother, Richard L. (Dixie) of Birmingham, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member and Past Chapter Chair of S.C.O.R.E. and a member of Central Illinois Angels. He also served as treasurer of the Limestone Alumni and Friends Association and served as a board member of the Greater Peoria Family YMCA.
He was an avid volunteer and supporter of the Peoria community as well as being an avid Bradley and Illini basketball fan.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. The Rev. Jack Thompson will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Greater Peoria Family YMCA, 7000 N. Fleming Lane, Peoria, IL 61614, or to the Salvation Army, 414 NE Jefferson Ave., Peoria, IL 61603.

Well I got DISH to update the guide data for the Bounce channel on 04.02 . Took lots of back and forth emails to get it done but after about a month , he finally got it up-linked to the sat. So now you can set timers if you want.

Spirit if Prayer Ministries had filed two applications for low VHF channels 2 and 3. Channel 2 has been granted and has been assigned K02RA (wasn't RA the ancient Egyption Sun God?) With an ERP of 300 watts. The channel 3 app has disappeared, so I presume SOP Ministries decided not to pursue it.

I wonder if they will ever file to maximize to 3000 watts???

The granted channel 12 maximazation app to go to 160 KW has now expired...

Still won't have any psip data or guide info because of London Broadcasting company's stupid refusal to put out any guide data for DISH to upload to the satellite. STUPID move on their part . I don't even watch KUIL because of no guide data. I hate not knowing what it on .

I don't understand their position on that either. It certainly makes no sense to me. I end up using the TV Guide web site for KUIL programming info as well as guide data for KPLC, THIS TV, and KVHP...

Yet, after having cut the cord, I am certainly happy to have another network option...

Thanks BPTTV... My mom is in a rehab hospital after breaking her hip but is not doing so well. My dad (92), has fallen several times, once tearing his rotator cuff requiring surgery, so either my sister or myself, or my daughter has to be with him 24/7. Fortunately, my sister is retired so she stays with him during the day all week and I relieve her for awhile in the evenings before she comes back to stay the night and my daughter fills in for us when we need her to... I am certainly not complaining, but it doesn't leave much time for anythi.g else. So, thank you again for your thoughts and prayers.

All I want for Christmas is for the FCC to grant KUHTs application for their translator in Beaumont on channel 24...

Geez. What's the holdup??? Get it done already!
Oh, oh, oh! In the FCC Daily Digest today is a list of low power translators that the FCC is proposing to grant Constrution Permits to.

The UH (KUHT) translator on channel 24 is one of the proposed recipients!

I can hardly wait! Maybe it won't be granted by Christmas, but at least headway is being made...

KLFY will commence HD newscast at noon on December 28th.

I can only say 2 things...1- It's about time! and 2- I cant believe, a company in bankruptcy not that long ago will beat out thier rival KATC. Although I can't imagine KATC will be too far behind now.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting.

I am glad for y'all. We now have 2 of 3 stations in our area (KBMT was first and KFDM followed) running local HD. Only KBTV lags behind.

You should start to see syndicated shows aioring in HD as well, I would think...

Congrats.

Thanks. Well I know back in the summer, Wheel of Fortune began airing in HD on KATC. Something we'd never seen before. But it seems KATC is lagging behind as far as their news broadcast.

And the FCC is investigating both the LD 4 and LD 6 that are LICENSED but never built (oops) and I understand from my contacts at the FCC the LP39 license is soon to be revoked and deleted.....NOW I ask again, who wants to put a full power digital 4 on?? Perfect antenna sitting in Vidor just waiting to be used...provided both towers stay up!! If one falls, the other is coming with it...and there goes 4.1/4.2 and 104.5 and 106.1...OUCH!

Meanwhile I have a MRI tomorrow in Beaumont for headaches and possible mini strokes..(OH FUN!)...Hey Richard, you gonna be around tomorrow?? I wish to talk with you about some things....in person Yeah I got your DID number at work....(I'll call around lunch.....I should be done by then..its a two stage contrast MRI of the head...I'll be surprised if they find ANYthing )

I am so glad the FCC is looking into those "stations". As many of you know, getting a CP, then claiming you built a station when you didn't is one of my biggest pet peeves! The FCC should also look intio the same situation with analog 56 and I think it's channel 49...

Plus, by deleting the channel 39 license now, it will prevent them from "voluntarily" relinquishing their spectrum for a profit should an auction bill pass...

I hope all goes well with the MRI, and indeed, they don't find anything bad...
Three Angels Broadcasting (3AB) was also on the list of proposed LP Construction Permits the FCC published on Monday. They have an app for 15KW on channel 15 at 89 meters above ground on what looks to me to be the TWC head in tower out in Port Neches near Groves. They got their application moving by proposing to use a full service mask filter as did the UH app for channel 24.
No other television station has the call sign KUHB (K University Houston Beaumont), so I am proposing that KUHB-LD be adopted as the call for the new channel 24 transmitter when it is built.

UH also has an already granted app for a translator in Victoria. No other television station has the call of KUHV either. Just sayin'...

MRI went ok but wont know the results until Monday...took Richard and Russ Ingram (from 12) out to lunch Thursday (Richard told me his reply he didnt post!!! I KNEW I should expect something from him! LOL)...All courtesy of SouthEast Texas Telecom...(business lunch)....Asked Russ about the expired max CP...he said they likely will NOT reapply anytime soon....BUT with the Low Power digitals on VHF getting a 10db boost, I suspect the High Powers will want the same.....200KW on 12 would do quite nicely for KBMT....(If only I could build that 2000ft master tower North of Vidor and get everyone on it...hhhhmmm) I am trying to buy the old 101.3 tower in the Lake Charles area so 1310 can use it....hey, with the right business plan, anything is possible (wait, Nexstar is selling, London has no cash right now and Sinclair is LMAing Freedom....ok, next idea!)

A VERY MERRY Christmas from myself to all of you....(I am heading back to the girlfriend's in Lake Charles...she is a deputy sheriff in the parish there! A woman in uniform...hmmmm and she brings the handcuffs

Yes yes yes!!! I like that.....(I'll send that on to Marty at KUHT)...now if Sinclair is ok with the 24 xlator on the tower...they will be the new owners!

BTW even if a full power station has a call, anyone can apply for the LD version....KBTV-LD is in California....so even if there were a KVHB, 24 here could still get the -LD version anyway!

Make sure you get it right (KUHB- you had a typo) and be sure to give credit where credit is due now... Marty and I converse every so often so he'll know from whence it came.

In fact, I've been working behind the scenes for several years to get this accomplished. It looks like now it may finally come to pass in the not too distant future. Oh boy!
