Strange. The guide data is correct for 12.1 and 12.2 OTA...

This gives me two bones to pick with KBMT. I was trying to watch Law and Order Saturday night on 12.2, and guess what??? For the first 5 minutes or so they had election coverage graphics on screen. Once again, the Closed Captioning was wiped out while the graphics were up! Outrageous! They weren't even putting graphics up on 12.1!

I think I will write an e to the station and also London Broadcasting voicing my disappointment today or this evening.

I thought about it today and decided to start with KBMT before contacting London about the guide data and the Closed Caption problem. I contacted KBMTs engineering department about the guide data, and used the new FCC mandated contact form to express my displeasure about the CC issue.

If I get no response, or the issues are not resolved to my satisfaction, I will then contact London...

As they say... "Please stand by".

My 722DVR has been acting up....sssooo I have to go into Local Channels and readd the channel...IF I do it with 12.3/.4 1st, then the EPG for 12.3 shows on 12.1 and 12.1 does not display...probably because of the PSIP mixup..SOOO I go back to and scan 12.1 and then save, it shows 12.1 ok and 12.3.4 shows ok...even if it sees RF36 and RF43 at the same time. I only see one 12.3 and 12.4 but it screws up 12.1 EPG....(Got that and not confused? Good)..

Personally, I wish 12 put 12.3 and 12.4 on RF50 since its on the same tower as 12.1/2...antenna and transmitter are there..and could cover the area better than the two LD stations now.RF36 should be moved to 12.1 tower and increased in power to a Class A Digital...RF43 could be moved north and allow a hop to 27 in Warren...

But what do I know..... Some good signals out of Houston at night...been watching 39-2 Antenna TV....they added WKRP on Sundays...and cut back SOAP to 1 hour instead of 2....excellent.

AND still havent seen anything on RF 6 digital....and if I point the antenna right at Vidor, I dont get 27 but point west to Houston, and there it is!! WTH??!! They havent moved xmtr site I hope....
I still need to look at LD 4 on KBTV's tower (MAY see about swapping the 6 for 4 CP and let them move 4 into Houston..should be easy)...Antenna TV on LD 6?? HMMM Could work...

Give the engineering dept time...they have sooo much work and little time and little money...its NOT THEIR fault.....they can only work with what Corp gives them.....be gentle.

As a side note, who is the best salavage place in town playing? I have a lot of Heliax and other copper in storage and its gonna go..the dumb hams around here have no idea and want to use the lame LMR cables where I have REAL Heliax...sooo I am looking at scrapping it all..if you have need of 100-300ft runs of 7/8in 50ohm HELIAX or 3/4in or 1/2in 75ohm CATV line at very low costs, get with me in direct email...otherwise, its going to the scrap yard...The 300 and 450 ft runs I am keeping fopr my own use

Antenna TV along with a local THIS affiliation on a sub...

I've been looking for 6 too, especially when I am at the cabin, but haven't seen it yet either.

Still, having already gone through the CC issue before, with a promise that it wouldn't be an issue again, I find it unacceptable for the CC to disappear when election graphics are up. Plus, it was so important to run the graphics on 12.2 but not 12.1???

If I do not even get an acknowlegment that they got my e, then I will fire one off to London this evening. I mean, yeah, busy and all, but you don't have time to hit "reply" and at least let me know that "oh, hey, we're sorry. We'll look into this"???

I don't want to e the FCC, but I will if I have to...

UPDATE: I decided to call this morning during break and talked to a woman who said? "She would pass it along"...

OTA guide data is back on 12.3/12.4!

Maybe the e to the KBMT engineering dept. worked... Check your DISH guide to see if anything there has changed... Hopefully so.
No change on DISH's end And I seriously doubt it will. I think DISH doesn't want to add guide data for ota only stations.
Well, while I am certainly glad to see guide data returned for OTA, I am sorry it didn't translate over to DISH as well...
I think that if KBMT could actually keep the guide data consistent and working , it might translate over to DISH, but having two different stations broadcasting from two different towers doesn't help. SO if DISH chooses to blame it on not carrying ota stations , I can't really blame them. In my opinion, Channel 12 has done a bad job , in running these two stations, keeping signal strengths consistent, keeping psip data going ota ,etc. They didn't even carry any psip data at all for months, because they said no customers complained , so why carry it? Which was stupid answer, because not many people knew at the time that Channel 12 London Broadcasting Corp. even ran the Mytx and Metv channels. So how could anyone complain ,if they didn't know who to complain to?

A quick OT:
103.7 KHJK was sold to EMF (K-Love and Air-1 Christian formats) and 97.5 KFNC (the original KAYD FM) was sold to 1560 KGOW Houston...Both of them are on the 2000ft towers Cumulus owns south and NW of Winnie (not sure if the towers were sold with the stations or not)..

Also talked with Russ at KBMT about the EPG on 12.3/4 ....they dont give the EPG to DISH...Dish gets it from Tribune..the PSIP info is identical on both stations so the problem lies in the DISH tuners; dont expect London to do anything to fix it (since its not their fault)

Well, I'm certainly glad it is back up and running OTA. It came back up right after I sent the e-mail to KBMT engineering, so I thank them for their prompt attention to my complaint.

Now, if I could just be sure the Closed Caption situation was resolved. Nobody ever got back with me after using the CC concern button, or actually calling the station. I guess we'll see come election day Tuesday evening...

I wish DISH would update the software in the x22 and later series to have the OTA EPG be read from the actual station and not from the birds. Sure would make it better overall but I doubt that will happen..

I agree. If they would let us use psip data we would be better off. DISH doesn't seem to not even like Ota on the hopper. If and When they release a usb ota tuner, it will only be a single ota tuner, instead of the dual tuner the 722k /922 has today. And I know that it is possible to do this ,because the dtv pal plus dvr had the ability to see psip data for both of these stations. IF DISH doesn't want to uplink the guide data , then letting psip data be read by the receiver would be the way to go.

I listened to a little bit of the music from KHJK via the Internet. I don't think we lost much.

BTW:

I will be in Europe from 6/2 - 6/15 on vacation. At least I'll have a valid excuse for not being on the forum for awhile.

Well, did KBMT fix the CC problem for the election?

just curious.

You know.... it's funny... I never thought to check. I was watching "Cold Case" on 12.3 until I went to bed at 9.

So, in answer to your question... I don't know.

I like KHJK for a change of pace. When I found they were off the air, I flipped over to 106.9, but found that there was a station on 106.7 that I don't think was ever there before causing major interference, although they show to have been licensed since sometime in late 2011. I listen to 106.9 quite a bit, so this is gonna be a problem.

Richard, I hope you have a fantastic time in Europe. Have a great time and yell us all about it when you get back...

I presume you will be leaving the station in good hands, right???

The 106.7 signal is a translator for KHCB 105.7 out of Houston. They installed a 104.9 translator in Beaumont on the Lucas tower (where the LD6 is supposed to be) and then used that as the source for the 106.7 in PA...along with the 107.1 LPFM in PA, it makes 106.9 a rough catch on tabletop radios in south county. Of course, 106.9 and 107.5 are simulcasting but the 107.5 east of Lake Charles kills that a lot of times.
