KBMT does that as well with ABC on 12.1 and NBC on 12.2 in 720p both...Comparing 12.2 vs KPRC 2.1 NBC (1080i) out of Houston on my 1080p Haier, I really cannot tell the difference..

(HMM forgot to quote the original post....I thought I DID! but it didnt show)

BTW tropo is in early tonight.....with antenna pointed toward Houston, started to lose 12.3/4 early...so moved it about 15-20 degrees off to the North...and KUIL is back in...but didnt lose any of the Houston signals either..wish I could say the heat does bring a benefit (HA!)

I just discovered a tremendous improvement in the audio level on KAOBs 27.2. Apparently an amp has been added to the encoder... This is a significant improvement in the audio level.
27.2 has been sounding better..

BTW 12.1 and 2 will be signing off at midnight tonight....tower climber is going up to inspect antenna and tower and starting at the top....should be back on around 2am or so...

Maybe they'll find that the antenna is bad and it will have to be replaced... That way they can file for the 160 KW ERP signal again like the one they let expire a while back...tongue.gif
post #9576 of 9896
I would love it if KMBT would fix their encoders . On both 12.1 and 12.2 you get brief flashes with no picture or sound at random times during any shows on these two channels. It is very annoying. Funny you don't see any problems on their other two channels 12.3 or 12.4 . I know different channels and broadcast towers, but all run by the same company: London Broadcasting Company.

They cannot upgrade to the 160KW until the RF12 in the BC/S area does something (I think increase their power). They COULD go back to 50 but personally I think staying on 12 and somehow improving their ERP would be best

IIRC, its different encoder makes on the two channels...but Ive seen 12.3/4 act up much more than RF12.

They already had the permit for 160 kW on 12 so they could easily have boosted power as long as they replaced their antenna.

Technically correct....however, London's not going to spend the money to change the antenna and to use the current antenna would require the BC/S RF12 to do something before KBMT could up their ERP...(according to a source at 12)

KBTV with their 1MW ERP (even at only 800fr) works pretty good....KFDM got their signal up to par with the move to 25 and the 20% signal in vertical pol certainly helped...but KBMT seems stuck in 2nd gear.....if they could get full max ERP on 12, they would have a killer signal

You do not want KBMT to go back to channel 50. This will be one of the first channels the broadcast industry will lose to wireless broadband. If they stay on VHF 12, the FCC won't even ask them to "voluntarily" surrender their license, change channel, or combine with another station. KBTV, KITU, and KFDM are more likely to be asked (in that order: 40, 33, 25).

BTW: My avatar is a picture looking down the center my broadcast tower, in case you were wondering.

Yeah they have already started moving stations off RF51 to protect broadband 700MHz....50 will be next in line..

BTW love the avatar...I have a pic I need to scan in of the old DeWalt tower in Houston that held 2, 11 and 39 for decades. 1400ft high with a 75ft wide candelabra on the top...they took it down in late 2010 but I was on it in 93 and got some pics off the top platform...

The US government has not yet printed enough money to get me to climb that high on any tower. Maybe 30 years ago......

Even if I made it down in one piece, my wife would kill me for climbing the tower.

A lose-lose proposition if I ever heard one.

I own the picture, the tower is owned by KFDM. OK, technically, KFDM owns the picture, too. smile.gif

I had stumbled into a really good deal for it a few months ago, so I ordered it so I could use it with the FM antenna. Well, the power supply went kaput last week. I know it is the power supply because I hooked the TV 7777 power supply up to the FM 7777 and it works great.

I just ordered a replacement power supply (open box) from Channel Master... First CM product that has failed on me.

I had ordered a replacement power supply, installed it and got the same result so I figured that there was a problem with the top unit. That was not the case, however. The 7777 did not fail after all.

I took the pre-amp completely off the antenna a couple of weeks ago, and to my surprise, I am still getting great reception from the Houston stations, even KTBZs digital signal. Eh, a dropout every now and then... BUT, while listening this past weekend, I lost all reception again. Kaput. Nothing. I turned the receiver off and then back on... I was receiving stations again. So... apparently the problem is inherent in the receiver, not the pre-amp. It appeared to be in the pre-amp because I turned off the receiver when changing power supplies.

I just got through checking the original power supply along with the replacement that I bought, and both are functioning perfectly (both putting out 23.15 volts). So apparently I have a good complete 7777 and a good back-up power supply. Sure am glad! smile.gif

I'm not real, real happy about the Sangean HD receiver however...mad.gif

I think a station in Alexandria does it too, I think, or maybe it was Monroe. I haven't seen that one though. I have seen KBMT and KATC now. Looks like garbage if you ask me on both of them. Maybe if TV's under 40 inches were the norm in the living room 8-9 foot from the couch...it's not. Most people I know have 50-60 inch TVs in the living room, some larger than 60 now. Very noticeable on a 60 inch set!

Anyone know how long and why KATC's PSIP is showing KTAC ?

Well, I don't know... but as of tonight it is indeed showing KTAC, not KATC. AN "oops" if I ever saw one!

I think the logical explanation is a dyslexic engineer.

According to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KATC_(TV) they were pretty new when I first caught them

Lately, some of KBMT's spots have had HORRIBLE audio.....distorted, clipped (sounds like WAY past 0 VU!)....what is going on there??

Also still nothing on RF6 and 27.2 has poor audio---again......and 27.4 is still showing some programs in less than 4x3 aspect while 27.1 seems stuck.....How it makes money is beyond me......I have read on the Houston forum that its sister 21.x suffers similar issues....geesh wish I had that kind of money to be able to ignore the problems...you would think they would fix it so more people would want to watch and thus they could charge more for a spot.

OK, with the new format I still have issues....Under the old site, if I came to this forum, I would go automatically to the last new page/message. Where do I set that in this new format? I have looked all over the place and cannot find it.....

A Poster on DBSTalk said that the Directv HDLiL for Lafayette is now in TEST, and would be up in a month or less time.

BTW 27 is no data today....carrier is on but thats it.....27.1 and 3 were showing color bars Friday or Saturday...and as Bruce Springsteen sung,
"57 channels and nothing on" ....egads even DISH is horrible all weekend long...usually I can find some worth watching...but not this weekend..with the crummy wx and my personal business not doing any sales, etc (it has been sucking no thanks to the economy), can this year get any worse (dont answer that rolleyes.gif )

Any of you using clear QAM on TWC in the Triangle area or Winnie, get ready to re-scan for your locals again... TWC is getting rrady to "make changes" AGAIN to the local channel lineup "on or near" August 14 according to a legal ad in the Beaumont Enterprise this morning.
Our area was granted 3 new LD CPs. Channel 19 (K19KY) Beaumont, channel 23 (K23MJ) Beaumont, and channel 41 (K41MJ) Vinton, La.

So... if all get built we will have stations on channels 19,21,22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 (21 if KEBQ gets a displacement).

I don't expect much from K19KY, not with full power KTXH on channel 19 a mere 100 miles away...
