SWEET! KIPS has filed an app to upgrade to a 3KW signal! The last time I looked for them, they were dark though...
Well, after a couple of weeks of being dark, I found KIPS (RF6) (V6.1) back on the air... Sort of, on Saturday. I am not sure if the transmitter was being tweaked, or if the was a major reflected signal bwcause the antenna was all iced up, but, the signal was all over the place. While watching the signal strength meter in the Haier HDTV it was showing 70%, then 0, then 25, 40, 0, 20, 0, 30, 70... It was bouncing all over the place. By Sunday, a rock solid 70% at the cabin. Because the ice melted maybe? Who knows... But the major development at KIPS is THIS TV is gone frown.gif , replaced by religious programming...
If I read the app right, KIPS-LD is going to be higher on the tower as well.....I think they are at 300ft now but the tower itself is 600ft...and I think they are going close to the top....they currently are running a 2 bay FM antenna (which may explain the off air during icing issue...the antenna is probably not tuned for 6 exactly!).....Jerry Proctor in Livingston owns it; trying to sell it off (along with 1490 AM in Woodville which has been dark for a while...but then the population in Woodville area and Jasper has dropped...no jobs and only retirees are moving there as the others move out for green lands...) Also the tower is at then end of the power feed and LOTS of trees in the way...possibly blew a line fuse to the site or ????....THIS usually like to be on a full power signal...someone needs to put a 5 on the old 4 batwing and put THIS and Antenna TV on it...OR stop the LD4 move into Houston (Gee they have never been on the air in Woodville or the Devers tower......) and put a full power 4 here .....I hate to see that batwing go to waste...

Given Sinclair I think is still looking for a DOE, they constantly have problems on 4.x and 6.x (Richard, can I use you as a reference if I apply??eek.gif Dont think I could screw it up any worse than they are now....why Jim left so suddenly is still a mystery).......I have noticed sometimes the TV takes up to 3 seconds to sync with 6.1(Before picture and audio come up)...Not sure if the audio sync with video issue is still present..it was BAD last time I saw it...at least a 1/2 second off.....6.2s audio is HOT .....4.1 and 4.2 trade the TICKS in their audio and ON occasion, there are sync delay issues with 4.1as well...4.2 and 6.2 donot have these issues...strange ..and the audio levels are not equal either...I can go through 12.1 through 12.6 and not have to adjust my volume....but sure cannot say that for all four of Sinclair's signals (nor 27.x!)
Your observations about KBTV and KFDM are spot on. The audio delay was really bad Sunday night on KBTV during the news, and the volume levels were horrendous. But upon checking this morning, the volume levels between 6.1 and 6.2 seem to be pretty even. Maybe they got that issue resolved...

One other issue that I noted, was that the commercial volume level was also a lot hottee than the programming, which is now agains FCC regs.

The THIS TV web site still lists "K06PM" (the former call sign for KIPS) as the affiliate or Beaumont. So much for that...
The app has been granted for KIPS to increase powee from 500 watts to 3,000 watts. I might now be able to receive it at my house in Groves. But then, now that THIS TV is no longer being broadcast from the station, what good is that to me now? Alas...
Well, an app has been filed for transfer of control for both KIPS (RF 6) and KOPS (RF 50) from the Proctor Group to Abraham Telecasing (the owner of KVVV-LD in Houston) which carries Christian programming... Alas indeed. Adios THIS TV...

Hey Folks:

I read or heard somewhere (think it was on channel 12 itself) that there is a 12-5 channel. Is that correct? If so, I'm not picking it up when I do a local's scan on my SAT Hopper. I am getting 12-1 thru 12-4.

Hey Hearrean! Good to see you. There is actually a 12.5 and a 12.6. There are two low power transmitters so there are two 12.5s and two 12.6s. One is on RF 36 which is licated in Orange County, north if I-10 and a luttle east of Texas 62. The other is on RF 43 and is located on Hillebrandt Rd. in Jefferson County. Some TV tuners WILL NOT lock onto the same virtual channel coming from different RF channels. In this case, a 12.x coming from RF 12, 36, and 43. If uou can point your antenna in the direction of the transmitters, and you still don't receive them, try a cinverter bix to see what happens. Your RV may not be able to lock them in... I would like to know how it turns out...
.
Oh, BTW, 12.1-12.4 are on RF 12. WITH 12.1, 12.2, and 12.3 all in HD. 12.4 is in SD...

Well, I don't have a RV & my OTA antenna is stationary (can't be pointed), but I will try another scan tonight & let you know what happens.

OK very cold fingers trying to type on a cell phone... TV not RV^… A RV is not required. LOL wink.gif
post #9852 of 9895
Looks like the CW 6.2 is now in 720p HD!!!!!!! I checked last night to see what was on and they were showing Community reruns and it was in full HD. I checked my TV signal strength and information and it showed 720p. FINALLY we can watch locally for Supernatural and Vampire Diaries in hd. I might even "move" back home to Nederland on my DISH account for the first time in about 14 years. I have listed my service address as Houston for years now.
Yes indeed! You are right! I posted this on my facebook status to help get the word out. I can now receive at my house in Groves 10 channels of HD. Of course a couple are duplicates, like both RF 36 and 43 (V 12.5) both My Network TV, KPLC which of course is also NBC, and both of the FOX stations...
You know, I never dreamed it would be possible to receive 10 HD channels in our area. Nor did I ever imagine that it would be possible to receive 28 total channels of programming either... smile.gif
post #9855 of 9895

Hi I am new to the forum as far as posting in it. I have been reading the convo on here and have really been interested in it. I talked to the Program Director at KUMY a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned that they were "raising" funds to switch to a digital signal. They have recently switched affiliations from Retro TV to Soul of the South. He did mention they when they "switch" to digital they would put Retro on 22.2. That's all I have for now please bare with me as I learn all the lingo around here lol.

Welcome JoesBros! That is really good to hear that KUMY will multicast after their transition... BUT, unless they apply for a highee transmitting power, the signal is going to go nowhere, alas. I live down in Groves, and can barely recieve the analog signal, at least without a lot of what we call noise (static). Channel 27, KAOB has an ERP (Effected Radiated Power) of 4,000 watts and I can receive it at home, but not at a cabin a friend of mine owns off of 105 just west of Beaumont. If memory serves, KUMY will have an ERP of a mere 1.99 Kw after they go digital... They do however have an application pending for a 15 KW signal for channel 21, however that has been lagging in limbo at the FCC for a while now, and will probably go nowhere until after, if then, the spectrum auction is over.

Again, welcome! I hope to "see" you around...

Thank you OTAHead! I live down in the Groves as well. I have receive KUMY pretty decent from my house with the occasional static. But all in all it's not that bad, and I have no issues with 27 KAOB at all. I'm receiving 28 digital and KUMY with no issues with the KPLC from Lake Charles and 18.1 I believe is the PBS Lake Charles from time to time. All of that without my Antenna Direct Antenna located on a 2X2 wooden pole on the corner of my house and not even mounted on the roof.

I've got a huge oak tree in my fron yard which I think interferes with my reception of 22... Have you been able to receive the LP on channel 6? Although the coverage contour shows that I am well within the coverage, I have not been able to receive it at my house. I do get it well at my friend's cabin west of Beaumont. They were dark awhile back, so I'm not sure they are on the air again... I will look this weekend when I am at the cabin...

Actually no I haven't got anything on 6 except of course KFDM. Every now and then when I do a scan I will receive channel 9. The picture is way fuzzy but audio comes in good and it sounds like Spanish programming. I didn't know if KUMY still had 9 (the old KEBQ) or if its coming in from somewhere else? Is that KIPS channel being picked up on analog or digital?

KFDM is actually on RF channel 25. KIPS actually is on RF channel 6. But they both map to 6.1. (I HATE virtual channel mapping) Yes, the channel 9 is KEBQ, although, I have received XERV channel 9 from Reynosa before... I do not know if Mexico has gone all digital or not... When I lived near the fire station on Lincoln, I could get channel 9 pretty good, butthat was ehen the transmitter was on Hilebrandt Rd. and my antenna was a bit higher.

Yea im thinking about putting my antenna on my roof I don't know if I would be able to pick anything else up that way. Im getting DirectTv installed tomorrow morning (ready for a change done with Time Warner) So I thought about running my Coaxel cable to the splitter in the Time Warner Box that way Im covered on all TV's in my house with the antenna if the Dish ever went out. Correct me if im wrong but I could do that?

Yes, you can do that. I presume you will have a Direct TV box at each TV connected to a Composit, or Component, or HDMI input. If this is so, just connect the antenna to each TVs coaial input, and do your channel scans. Use the altenate input to watch Direct TV, and put the TV on the tuner whenever you want to watch OTA. A word of caution... each time you split your signal, you lose half (approximately). So, if you go to two TVs, you have half yhe signal at each TV than you had with one. Splitting again for a third TV, will reduce it again and so on. You may have to end up using a distribution amp depending on how many TVs you are going to hook up to the antenna... If you do, you eill need a power source for the amp where you split it. Just keep that in mind.
KUMY and KEBQ are co-owned and on the same building in downtown Beaumont (Century Tower aka: Petroleum Building). 9 is only running less than 60 watts. 22 is running a somewhat directional signal toward KBTV's tower where DirecTV uplinks are....so it can be put up on the bird.

There is a splitter that will pass OTA on one side and L band (which is what comes from the dish) on the other while also passes DC from both ports to the common (but not between the two ports) so you can have a amp at the antenna (most OTA/sat splitters only pass DC on the sat to common path). Makes it easier to have OTA and sat on one coax feed (Does DirecTV use two runs?? Last time I looked at a Direct install all the rcvrs had two coaxes hooked to them)...The CM777x amps work great off a DISH 19V output. BTW, crossband splitters like these do not lose half power (3db)..splitters lose signal when you are splitting the same band...but a crossband coupler (which a OTA/sat splitter is) maybe loses 0.2db or so.....depending on how you do the connection to the TVs could cause some signal issues (this becomes more of a multiple termination issue than splitter loss)...if you plan to feed multiple TVs with an OTA signal from one antenna, CM makes a nice splitter with a preamp to keep losses to a minimum (I think the gain is variable iirc..but maybe not)

The LD4 that was "suppose" to be on the Devers tower (licensed to Woodville?) has been granted a CP in downtown Houston (who didn't see that coming?)...Also 49 that was licensed to Beaumont has moved its license to Houston as well...but that signal has not been on the air for a LONG time if ever.....

The 24 translator for KUHT is still on the FCC list....keep the fingers crossed on it....(and hope Sinclair will go along with the antenna sharing!...they quit advertising for a DOE so I guess they have hired one...but have not heard anything official...or rumor!)..
I just wanted to say the KIPS RF 6 (V 6.1) was indeed on the air this weekend with religeous programming. Gone are the days of THIS TV... frown.gif
post #9865 of 9895

Where is their tower located? I could never pick them up??

The tower is located a mile or so due east of where Texas 105 Ts into the Eastex freeway. Access to the tower is off of Lucas Dr. I can get the station at the cabin west of Beaumont iff of 105, but I cannot receive it in Grives either. I have tried at home using a converter box with a manual tuner, and it doesn't even get a whof of it. They do have a construction permit to go to a 3KW signal, but it was just granted a little while back, and they have 3 years to build it out, so no telling when that will happen...

Interesting I did not know about that about KIPS. I had recently talked to the PD at 27 KAOB and I know he is looking for new programming for 27-1. I am pretty sure he will stick with something offered from Luken Communications since they are an affiliate of MY Family Tv. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up with Heartland (The Nashville Network) or pick up Retro TV since KUMY is a Soul of the South affiliate.

Well, it is official... KIPS-LD (RF 6) and KOPS-LD (RF 50) have neen sold and the transfer of control of the licenses has gotten the FCCs blessing. Abraham Telecasting LLC is the new owner...

Bluebonnet Broadcasting is selling KUIL Beaumont, K36ID Beaumont, K27JJ Forbes and KVHP LD Jasper to KUIL License Corporation LLC which is wholly owned by Terry E. London (who I am presuming is of the London Broadcasting family who owns KBMT) for $1,810,000.00. I would imagine Bluebinnet is raising the funds needed to build out K42KB in Vidor. Bluebonnet did a similar thing a few years ago by creating stock and selling stock to raise funds to convert KUIL from an analog facility into a digital station.

So what will that mean for the station? Will it continue to simulcast the same shows as the digital 43 station :12.3 Cozi and 12.4 Metv?
