I just noticed that Charter in the Leeds area has added 3 new HD channels: Disney, Lifetime, & FX. I just wish that FX had been added when the Shield was still on. Maybe we can get Fox News, ESPNU, & CSS soon.

Anybody heard when Charter in Hoover will be adding any new HD channels?

National Geographic HD has now been added as well.

I have Speed HD on Charter channel 826 now.

Anyone know the actual channel assignments (example 75.3 for ESPNHD) currently used by Charter Leeds for these new expanded basic HD channels?

I just received this reply form 33/40 about their change in VHF to UHF frequency:

Quote:

From ABC33/40
As of Monday 10/26th we are increasing our signal strength. We are going from VHF5 to UHF 33. At that time you will need to rescan your box. You would be able to pick us up on 33.1 through your converter box. You should get a very clear signal at that time.
Thanks!

Thought folks might want to know this.

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up!

Anyone know if we'll ever get HDnet on Charter?

There was mention of Fox 6 HD news coming Monday on today's Paul Finebaum show.
Monday!? Wow, that was quick. I was guessing it'd be around March of 2011. No, seriously. I got that vibe from those breathless "HD news soon" promos that have been running. They were, of course, shot in blurry-fuzz-o-vision SD 4:3 which made me think they haven't even gotten the back-end equipment yet in place to pass local HD content.

Contrast that with the hints that got out from NBC 13 and CBS 42. 13 had some news footage that was aired in 4:3 that was scrunched up 16:9, and of course the obvious studio redesign that went on right before the flip. CBS 42 hasn't announced anything that I know of beyond what I've heard here, but they are airing news promos in HD from time to time that look great. So obviously something's coming down the pike soon there.

But 6? All their stuff's quality is no better than some of the small town Mississippi stations I've watched recently. Pretty yucky looking.

Change will not be Monday but will happen next week. The rain has delayed the Monday date.

Looks like WBRC debuted their HD newscast today at 5pm. Here am I in town and without an HDTV in sight.

Looks like they've gone in whole hog though, with new weather and graphics packages. I can't tell if all the field cameras HD too, but the new setup looks sleek.

OK 33/40, you're the odd man out. Get on the ball!

Fox 6 News hd pq is soft compared to NBC 13 hd News IMO. Still good to see though. I was hoping Fox 6 would be showing syndication programs such as Seinfeld in hd. No luck so far. 42 at least gives us that. Hopefully syndication hd is in their plans.

Here are some grabs from both newscasts.

IMO the Fox logo in the corner looks to be SD... either that or the animation is choppy so it looks to be less sharp. I also noticed their ticker during the 6:00 newscast wasn't in HD. But 6's overall newscast was great and their set looks amazing!

I have Dish and for several weeks if not months Fox 6 News video had been out of sync slightly with audio. Even the earlier hd newscat at 5 and 6 today were out of sync. That seems to be fixed on the 9 pm newscast. Funny, it was only on the newscast and not regular programming that it happened.

Sweet. My signal strength jumped from 45-60% to 75-80%. Thanks for the heads up!

Edit: and now that the clouds are gone, I"m rocking 90%! My previous high was about 70%.

Reading this thread I have seen several people listing channels like above. I live in the Leeds area and have Charter basic expanded, but I can't stand the idea of having a cable box. I just bought a new TV with a QAM tuner. Am I correct in my assumption that I will be able to get the channels above with just the cable and my TV? These channels are being broadcast in clear QAM in the Leeds/Moody area on Charter Cable?

Does anyone have any idea when APT will be available on DirecTV in HD and what the hold up is?

Thanks!

Sorry but ESPN and ESPN 2 will NOT be in clear QAM.

Thanks. I was actually looking for the channel assignments for the new channels; specifically SPEED HD. Also, I need the listing for Leeds; I think Hoover has a different Charter lineup.

Regarding the other question from the individual in Leeds, you probably should be able to pick up ESPNHD and ESPN2HD with only your QAM tuner. Charter's channel listing for Leeds includes those channels within their expanded basic lineup. Thus, they shouldn't be scrambled as are some of their HD channels that are in premium packages. Also, note that the above channels were listed for Hoover. In Mtn Brook / Leeds, the assignment for ESPNHD and ESPN2HD are 75.3 and 77.5 like Leeds but the locals are slightly different. My locals are on 90 and 93 subchannels rather than 90 and 92 channels as he had listed for Hoover. Your TV will likely scan in +200 digital cable channels (based on registering signal strength but most will be scrambled.

Do they (APT) actually show anything in HD?

I seem to recall they went through a period where everything was stretched SD. Watching the channel on analog cable was a nightmare because it seemed like half the picture was missing!

That leaves just WABM and WUOA as the two channels not carried in HD. Although I doubt WUOA has HD capability. They certainly seem to be making inroads to becoming a Birmingham stations though, I see Brighthouse in Bessemer is carrying them now.
