Well, at least we got one season in HD.

WB *******s.

from thewb.com

IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT ANGEL

A statement from The WB:
For the last seven years Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been cornerstones of our network. The sum total of the work done on those shows has produced some of the proudest moments in our history. Like some of the great series that are leaving the air this year, including Frasier and Friends, the cast, crew, writers and producers of Angel deserve to be able to wrap up the series in a way befitting a classic television series and that is why we went to Joss to let him know that this would be the last year of the series on The WB. We have discussed continuing the Angel legacy with special movie events next year, which is still on the table. In a perfect world, all of these details would be completed before this information went to the press so that we could be definitive about the show's ongoing future. But in any case, we did not want to contemplate this being the last year of Angel without giving the show the option of crafting their own destiny for this character and for this series. David Boreanaz continues to be one of the finest, classiest and friendliest actors we have had the pleasure to work with and we hope that the relationship furthers from here. The same can be said for all the actors and producers on the show

NOOOOOO!
I just checked on thewb.com and there was no mention of any of this. So unless if you have a direct link to the article, I'd assume this is a joke.

There is already an online petition. Probably will do no good, but there are already 5000+ signatures.

I am beyond shocked at this..
1. Angel HDTV means i will only have the remaining episodes this year to enjoy :(
2. IT HAS STRONGER RATINGS this year than last.. why cancel it now???

this is a very stupid move by the wb, why get rid of one of its strongest shows!!!

STUPID, JUST STUPID!
The ratings, while somewhat stronger than last season had begun a stark and steady downward trend. The last four original episodes got the following ratings: 3.1, 2.7, 2.5, 2.3.

Last season's new episodes averaged a 2.46 rating.
This year's new episodes averaged 2.96.
But Angel still normally ranked in the mid 90s of all programs. And that is not good even by the WB's meager standards.

What standards are those? How many WB programs do significantly better?
Yet in another article on thewb.com website about the 100th episode last week they say "ANGEL is currently The WB's second highest-rated series with adults 18-34"
ouch...maybe UPN will try to get this one for a couple of seasons too.
oh well, it wasn't very good this year, though...I am good and resigned to that.

This doesn't make a lot of sense; I would think that the general audience of this show, having a fairly high geek factor and geeks often having a not insignificant amount of purchasing power, would be an attractive demographic for this netlet. Go figure.

Poor Josh Whedon. He produces what I shamelessly consider a masterpiece in the late, lamented Firefly, which gets canned after half a season of anemic ratings (which almost certainly would have improved steadily as people discovered the show - everyone to whom I've shown the DVD compilation has been greatly impressed). Now this strange development with the Frog and Angel. What's up with that?
It was canned because the WB has two big(to them)hour-long shows for next season and needs a place for them since most of their hour shows(Charmed,7th Heaven,Everwood,Smallville,Gilmore Girls) have been renewed for next season,Angel was the odd man out.
The new shows are Dark Shadows and Lost in Space.

They should have cancelled Charmed or Gilmore Girls, and let Angel get to 7 seasons. I think they only renewed it for this season to get it to 100 episodes for syndication.

Both of those shows were renewed before they cancelled Angel and the WB gets nothing for syndication and/or DVD sales it is produced by 20th Century Fox not the WB.

I believe those shows were extended in the last week or so, actually.

re nabsltd:

I think your questions would be answered much more completely at the website I indicated.

But in it's fourth season, Angel's ratings hovered somewhere around eighth of the WBs 15-17 shows. This year, slightly better: 6th of 16-17 shows.

But in the total TV universe, it ranked anywhere from 86th to 107th.
Weird how the WB was critical of GG while renewing it, while praising Angel and cancelling it in the same breath.

It's a show I watched religiously from the beginning, but I think most fans recognize that it has jumped the shark and is not the show it once was.

Let's hope they can give it a finale as good as Buffy's finale was.
Let's see. Prime time is 8pm to 11pm 7 days a week. That's 21 hours of programming. So they are telling us that a show they have that is second in ratings for the network isn't good enough to keep around. Are all network execs this stupid?
angel was really good this year... cant believe they'd renew charmed and gilmore girls but give the axe to angel.
I will never see Angel in HD, rats now I have no reason to watch the WB or UPN next fall.

Damn. I can't believe drivel like Charmed is still on the air while they cancel Angel... I actually am enjoying this season more than the past two... No Joss Whedon on TV next year??? Maybe I don't need that HD Tivo after all...
************** is the biggest joke..every time something happens in the tv world there's a petition on that site..nothing has ever happened

the only feedback you'll see from your effort is that some article will pop up saying "despite 2358482843242 signatures on an internet petition site, the wb canceled Angel"

instead of urging people to sign it, why not tell people to write letters or email the WB DIRECTLY?
you may be right, but sometimes when there is really alot of signs it might help. And as it send to the cast and crew too its nice for them to see the support.

I already e-mailed theWB

anyone know the e-mail of UPN? They should go further with Angel

cant find any contact info on upn.com

If you want to do this right put a link to all the HD shows that have been cancelled.... I could care less about angel because I never watched it but there might be others Id be willing to vote for.... Your personal crusade doesnt belong on this forum where if you added links for all HD shows that "may" be cancelled I think it would be allowed (make it more HDTV Programming oriented).

Not this season. Next season is possible, but it hasn't been discussed yet.

Hello:

Yeah it's a shame that Angel is getting the ax. I’ve followed the show since the beginning and it will be sad to see it go.

On the bright side though, it seems as though we may all end up seeing ALOT more of Charisma Carpenter (aka Cordelia Chase) in the not too distant future. :D

http://www.charismacarpenter.com/index2.shtml

So while I wallow in my misery, at least I can take comfort in knowing that I will have someone, or rather something, at my side to help me get through this very "difficult" time! ;)
