When will they ever resolve the lip sync issue? Does anyone know what the problem is? Or is it a mystery?
I wondedr if the mounted cameras will look better than the handhelds.

Audio is a bit out of sync in Cincinnati (WLWT/5.1) ....it was also yesterday...

Called and they said they would let engineering know...but still not correct.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the amount of SD in the Countdown show. It seemed heavily SD yesterday, as well. I mentioned yesterday, but it bears repeating:
One thing to remember: RF HD cameras are not yet available. Nascar coverage depends heavily on RF cameras not only for all the in-car coverage, but also virtually all of their handheld and pit coverage. Assume going in that anything without cable is going to be an SD native feed.
At least they've got 16x9 blocks in their SD cameras so they're not zooming the image to get 16x9. Also, when you see the in-car, you'll see pillars as those cameras are 4x3, and again, they chose not to zoom.

It appears to be a frame or 2 better than yesterday, but...
Maybe the rain killed their chances of real world testing...not likely, but trying to give them the benefit of the doubt...

Good ol' Tony Stewart telling like it is. ;)

About 1 sec audio sync issues here in Dallas on KXAS. Problem exsits on both the OTA and Comcast feeds. If it helps at all the commercials are also out of sync here in Dallas too.

The picture is HD so that is good.

Laters,

Holy Sh**! That's got to be a local problem.
It's just about in sync here in L.A. (OTA).

Let's hope this gets better. Overall, KING5 HD hasn't impressed me compared to some other channels offerings so far.

At 1:12om EST, Audio is now slightly off sync from both WLWT-DT Cincinnati+WKEF-DT Dayton - pretty much the same "off sync" from both stations ... Audio ahead of video by 10's of ms or so ...

update: 1:25pm - A/V sync seems to be pretty much right on from WLWT-DT/WKEF-DT during interview with the prez ...

Looks like KGW(OTA here) in Portland is ready to deliver today from the get go. Lookin' good! Thanks KGW!!! And thanks, NBC, for trying a challenging production.

Audio is badly off listening to GWB here in NY WNBC. PQ is terrible too. So far it looks like there is only on HD cam and this one's not it.

Hang in there. If yesterday is any indication, once the race starts it will get better.

Watching this on KING5 HD also. Not overly impressed either vs. some of the shots on DISH's Demo Loop of NASCAR racing, but as always, kudos to NBC for doing this in HD.

Can't wait for the green flag.

Its on WCAU-DT Philadelphia HDTV DD 2.0.

NBC does not broadcast in 5.1. DD2.0 only. Prologic II

I'm beginning to be annoyed by all the GWB talk in the prerace...

and I resent the overbearing military aspects of this. I know military culture is part of the south, but this...just smells bad to me...

Yeah, I'm watching because it's a rainy day in Atlanta, and the race is in HD. I don't typically watch NASCAR. So maybe I'm not used to it.

I am getting nascar on H D T V !!!!!

i have this ancient, i mean, *ancient* indoor antenna and out of a whim i connected it to my hdtvset and let my panasonic do its scan thingie..

IT DETECTED HDTV DIGITAL CHANNELS!!!!!

o_O i am now 'shocked and awed' (no pun intended)

i am still awaiting my hdtv cablevision topbox (next weekend) but in the meantime i am happily satisfied with this.. i didn't even have to buy a Terk or the Silver Sensor!!!

now my thoughts are alive! I have an antenna on the roof and maybe.. if i take that cable which doesn't stretch to the living room, but if i take that cable and add some cheapo ratshack cable extender/amplifier and run it to my living room.. maybe the picture will even be greater than my original plan which was to get the terk or the S.S!!!

i am so happy! happy watching everyone.. GENTLEMEN!!! START YOUR ENGINES!!! :D

edit: I am in Brooklyn :) the picture OTA indoors with an ancient antenna is SUPERB! This antenna is so ancient it has screw terminals to a coaxial adapter! lol it was just gathering dust, good thing i tried it on a whim! :)

edit2: i checked my signal strength meter (my hdtv set has a built in meter) it's showing up as 85% right now but peaked at signal strength: 89, also it's weird.. i checked "program info" and it shows 1080i (which is how nbc is sending it out i guess).. I wonder if my set downconverts that to 720p, hmmm... yum! :p

Not quite. Much of the NBC network transmission and distribution system is capable of DD5.1. In fact, recall that the Winter Olympics collaboration a couple of years ago was done in beautiful 5.1! It may be that their local production facility/truck can't do it, but that is a small excuse. We need to keep the pressure and expectations high. Can you think of a more impressive event to mix in true 5.1? You could actually make use of the LFE channel!!
