DenonJeff, What's the word on any new Denon Players? - Page 25

post #721 of 744
I don't think he's ever coming back, for a variety of reasons.

It came out today
It seems it will be there - at least on european equivalent of 5910

http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-...ws.php?id=7119

Now all we need is someone to confirm they will update 3910 too

Sure it will....

Just like it did on the 5900, and then 3910 when it was supposed to hit the streets....

The check is in the mail

"Other features of this deck include compatibility with DVD-Audio and SACD discs, plus connectivity that includes HDMI, DVI, FireWire, Denon Link 3, Progressive Component, Composite, S-Video, and RGB Scart."

This does not indicate the DL will be activated for SACD. Same story, different chapter...

I thought that DenonLink3 was the SACD-compatible version of DenonLink. :confused:

It is, but that doesn't mean that Denon has approval for SACD carriage. I'm sure if we could see the fine print on some of these PR releases for the 5910 we would see the usual "Denon currently waiting, blah, blah, blah.." disclaimer on approval. By the time the 5910 hits the streets it will be about two years since they first announced they are awaiting approval. Plus with all the recent noise and rumors about Sony not continuing to support the format any more who knows what will happen.

I would certainly not make a purchase based on whether this is ever going to happen...
post #727 of 744
Jim,

You're absolutely correct...I certainly wouldn't purchase with the "hopes" of using DL for SACD. However, Denon's language is suspect...if it were indeed to come out with DL3, that would imply that they had SACD approval, right? Unlike the 3910, which only has DL2...

ANYTHING DENON HAS TO SAY IS ALWAYS SUBJECT TO SPECULATION!!!
post #730 of 744
Hey, did you notice "realta" chip?
Ok, I gave up on dlink, but that's interesting at least.
post #731 of 744
I take it that the DVD-5910 is not the same as the upcoming 'ultra' X-series transport? I am surprised Denon is putting the Realta chip in the 5910 and not saving it for the X-series model. I am impressed...

You are correct the DVD-5910/DVD-A1XV is not the "Ultra" X-Series Transport.

Posts like these are why DenonJeff hasn't ever bothered to come back for months. ;) Can't blame him at that rate.

I don't know if you meant this tongue-in-cheek or not, but there is a consensus, to some degree, that holds to that statement quite sincerely. It's enough of a vocal group that just simply means someone like Jeff isn't going to waste their time.

Agreed Eric W, and that's a shame. Why people continue to look this particular gifthorse in the mouth on these fora is beyond me. And I'm not just talking about DenonJeff. A couple years ago we had waaaay more mfr employee participation here at AVS. But the way people here refuse to deal with the fact that these folks *are* employees, and subject to any amount of oversight and/or restriction on what they can and can't reveal publicly - and then get all uppity about it - is what chases them away. Truly sad.

Maybe that's why DL3 has not materialized, and why the new AVR's from Denon have 1394 inputs... is the writing on the wall?

PS. Where have you read about Sony backing away from SACD. I'd like to read some of that stuff

thanks

I do not know it to be a fact, but there is article over at Audioholics making reference to it, I don't have an exact link, it was an article about a show or a Q&A session with some industry types, you'll have to search the site. I will try and find it myself as I don't like posting something like that without any reference to back it up...

Found it,

JVB and Lumagen both do a great job with SDI mods.

If you want to modify your player, I recommend MSB Technology. Their phone number is 650-747-0400 and the website is http://www.msbtech.com. Or, send an e-mail to david@msbtech.com. The models they can modify are listed on their website as follows:

* MSB Super DVD Audio Player
* Denon DVD-1600
* Denon DVD-2900
* Denon DVD-5900
* Kenwood DV-5900M
* McIntosh MVP-831
* Pioneer Elite DV45A
* Pioneer Elite DV47AI
* Pioneer DVD-626D
* Panasonic DVD-RP82
* Panasonic DVD-RP91
* Panasonic DVD XP-30
* Sony DVP-S9000ES
* Sony DVP-CX777ES

There may be others they can do not listed above. They are doing my Panny XP-50 for just $200 (I supplied the SDI board). Their all-inclusive price, including the board and shipping charges, is $385. MSB warranties its work for one year and many manufacturers will honor the factory warranty even with MSB's upgrade. Tell David "RU Geekman" sent you...

I has considered MSB Tech when I was going to have my 5900 done as the price was right, but when I talked to them they had not had any experience with the Denon 5900 at the time. I guess some brave soul became their test bed. :)
post #743 of 744
i guess msb it is...
how about some of the other players not on your list...i was hoping for something also networkble..is that too much to ask in a sdi set up??
i cam acorss a new company or player...snazzi???
snazzio??
never heard of them before!! but i m wondering maybe they are using on of these chips that is a good candidate for an sdi deal...

that way one stone/two birds....but i m guessing that woudl be too mcuh to ask...or am i just butcehring the whole idea of using sdi in the first place!!!

btw...that McIntosh MVP-831 sounds good for a sdi mod...gotta look into the models you just provided us with!!!

thanks folks...
