Now that KGO is transmitting on two different channels (and KPIX and KBCW are planning similar translators) most people will not have any idea whether they're watching the main signal or the translator signal.
I have thought of a disastrous possibility, likely never will be reported here if a tuner like this is actually out in the wild.
Scan starts say at RF 2.
7.x is found on RF 7 and is added to the table.
Scan finds 7.x on RF 35, development programmer does not know what to do so deletes 7.x and marks 7.x as illegal never to be considered as valid again.
Development programmer is laid off, reassigned or quits.
New programmers gets program to the point that it mostly works, manager under heavy pressure to get the units out the door and onto the cargo ship says ship them. It is realized that NTSC / HDTV TVs will fail to sell when they get to USA soon.
This is very unlikely, but if anyone might be bit by this it is myself.
The software in my HDTV is an Alpha version at best. Takes 30 seconds to boot up, crashes often needing a full power off and on. The NTSC and ATSC software is totally separate and the NTSC has many features (Like PIP as it has two NTSC tuners) that the ATSC software does not. NTSC is on < 1 sec.
Why did I buy this TV, I was looking for a flat panel monitor for my HTPC (Seven ATSC tuners) and the NTSC features were ignored and the ATSC Tuner was a gift. It clearly is by far the rottenest of my eight tuners.
Microcenter sent me an e-mail about this TV and then I watched the price drop very rapidly until the price was reached that I got the TV (last bump was free speaker and stand). The number of inputs was the deciding factor.
I am scared to do a rescan!
And yes, I cannot learn the RF for a channel. The HTPC tuners all report the RF channels.
