Signals have been holding at about normal levels here in San Francisco for the past several weeks, but I've seen some rather weird conditions here over the past few days.
Thursday night the two VHF stations from Walnut Grove, KVIE 6 and KXTV 10, were booming in here with signals of 26 and 25 dB SNR respectively, but all of the UHF channels were way down. Even KMAX which normally comes in with a 24 to 26 dB signal was down to 18 dB and both KOVR and KQCA were below the cliff edge with "No Signal". Signals from Mt. Allision and Monument Peak in the South Bay were low, too, but KRCB 22 and KEMO 50 from up in Sonoma Country were coming in a couple dB stronger than normal at 25 and 26 dB. KTLN from Novato, 30 miles to the north, was booming in with a 29 dB signal.
Friday night signals were about normal with the VHF and UHF stations from Walnut Grove, the South Bay and Sonoma County all coming in at about the usual levels: KVIE 18 dB, KXTV 17 dB, KOVR 19 dB, KMAX 25 dB, KQCA 20 dB, KICU 27 dB, KDTV 26 dB, KSTS and KTEH 24 dB, KRCB 23 dB and KEMO 25 dB.
Yesterday, though, signals were back to what I reported above for Thursday, although the VHF stations were less strong, only 22 to 23 dB, KMAX was low and KOVR and KQCA were below the cliff edge again. Both KRCB and KEMO were stronger than usual, coming in at 26 and 28 dB. 28 dB ain't bad for being 65 miles away!
During this entire time, the two Mt. Diablo stations were about normal levels - KTNC 42 at 26 dB and KDTS 52 at 15-16 dB with the usual break up.
Signals from the Sutro and Mt San Bruno stations normally never change here. At 3/4 of a mile and 5 miles, they're too close to be affected by conditions. However, some type of intermittent interference has been bothering KOFY and KPIX the past few days. Both are normally very strong, but I've seen 4 to 5 second drops where the picture will break up. I record "Gunsmoke" on ME-TV 20-2 every day, and have seen the break up three or four times in recent days. I have no idea what it is.
That's the status of things here.
