Yes, distant VHF has been quite low in strength lately.
For VHF I use the clearstream 5 huge loop with reflector. .... (From a 2010 KXTV free antenna giveaway)........thanks, .... channel 10 (Real neat historic old brick 1 story headquarters @ the hwy 5 and 80 intersection) on Broadway I think. Sacramento.
For UHF I use the RCA 34792 stubby yagi with parabolic type reflector.
I found those models to be highest quality for size-wise mobile applications. Sometimes I use a battery amp with 2db or less of noise. And RG-6 coax jumpers for walking movement.
I can see trace amounts of signal levels, that a master antenna, could or could not decode.
The battery tv does not have a signal meter. But the no - signal screen will flash & disappear with any detectable amounts.
My house antenna (s) are fixed decades old outdoor & attic master antennas and currently do not move. (unless I do manual labor) and move them.
I still have "channel processors" in the analog days for some channels.
Crazy as It seems, ..... I only use 1 VHF YAGI for most ALL San Francisco channels UHF & VHF ....... Usually pointed towards Walnut Grove.
I do not really need any
antenna for Sutro tower. "Extremely strong"
signals here. A paperclip in the antenna jack will work for UHF. Most all indoor models work for VHF.
Comparing apples to apples, ..... I might get a 4228 soon just for kicks. I don't expect I will get any new channels with it.
If you are a DX er. I would expect some type of reception here of the following RF channels 3, 18, 20, 24, maybe 11 too at any given point.
For 24 hour signal tests, .... you simply plug a tv converter box in "antenna mode"...... to a home security camera DVR recorder with a time-date stamp recording.
In fast forward playback, you can document 24 hours of signal examination.
Or any detectable signal ..... in a 24 hour timeframe.
I can do that here ..... If I get serious about a particular channel pattern .... Or if I have time....... on the matter.
So what ? ...... if I can document 5 seconds of tv reception from Las Vegas, ETC. .... At 2: 30 am ?
I'm sure it happens.
