European Soccer Live in HD on VOOM - Page 2

WorldSport-HD has been saying 50 soccer games this season. These games (the ones on top of page) are being shown LIVE. There are others that are shown as tape delay and others that are shown as repeats. I would assume that this will go on for more than a single season.

I want to see what they are going to do once the season is over around June.

clapper_whistler,

WorldSport channel has been showing taped HD soccer games from day one (since October 2003). Every single day, at least 2-3 games a day. The games are relatively recent: current season, but repeat often. Almost exclusively from Spain: La Liga and Spanish Cup (A lot of Real Madrid and Barcelona!)

What is new though is the live broadcasts. They started only this month. Now we can watch 2 live games a week or so!

Currently there is only one type of STB that works with VOOM. It can be purchased or leased directly from VOOM or through Sears. See other VOOM threads in this forum for details.

Correction the 50 games were only for la La Liga Spanish Premier league. The UEFA games are extra. I have counted 33 Liga games already shown. These include the King's Cup tournament which are extra as well. To get the hardware go to www.voom.com

Game is on and it looks excellent! Celta Virgo vs Real Madrid.

Listening to the commentators, they just mentioned that Real Madrid is in first place and Valencia is second place behind by 5 points. Valencia, apparently, is losing 2-1 to Espanyol. This win will proper Real Madrid to widen the lead over valencia if valencia loses. Celta Virgo is in 17th place so this should be an easy game for Real Madrid with a full squad of all stars.

From what I am hearing, it looks like there is no playoff format in the championship. Game looks excellent! It just started...

With 8:23 gone by: Celta Virgo has been the more aggresive team. Real Madrid looks like they are sleeping. It will be interested if they let Celta Virgo win this game.

With 20:03 gone by: Ceta Virgo 1 Real Madrid 0.

None of the major European Leagues have a playoff for their respective countries Championships. The goal is to try to finish high enough to earn a spot in either the Champions League, or if you finish a little further down, the UEFA Cup.

That is why the elite teams need to have such a deep bench, there is no way to get through a season playing your 11 starters the whole way through. The teams also battle for some kind of National Cup as well, i.e. the FA Cup in England and the Kings Cup in Spain. Alot of matches, too many in my opinion. This leads to tired players on the National Teams. But they are much like the U.S.A. when it comes to getting as many Euros or Pounds as possible.

Thanks for that information. Here's a summary of the game:

Less than 5 minutes to go in the first half. Real Madrid still trailing by a goal. There has been excellent plays for both teams and Salgado just got a Yellow Card. Very hard played game.

Pavon and Salgado for real madrid with Yellow cards. 2 minutes to end first half.

Fouls committed 11 for Real 5 for Celta... First half ended. Referee has been hard on given yellow cards and calling fouls. No intimidation from fans.

Second Half just started

I wonder what the temperature is there. I see all the fans wearing winter clothing.

Ronaldo just scored for Real. Game is 1-1 and Real looks very alive and very aggresive. They had a bunch of scoring opportunities. Celta is back now and just missed a big scoring opportunity with one man against the goal keeper and the goal keeper deflected the ball somehow. Wow! how did he miss?

Wow! Zidane just scored! 2-1 Real... with 64:37 played.

There's one problem with a camera taking close shots. I have seen it a couple of times now, where it looks like the shot is out of focus.

Great pass from D. Beckham to Figo and Figo scores. Real 3 and Celta 1 with 71:29 played.

Ronaldo replace by Salari. Zadine just displaced his magic and trick with the ball. Fans shouting out loud...

Raul replaced by Nunez with 10 minutes remaining.

Next two games:

Wednesday Mar-03 UEFA: 3rd Rd.: PSV Eindhoven vs. Peruggia
Saturday Mar-06 Deportivo @ Valencia. Due or die for Valencia. Strange that they are saying Saturday when I thought it was going to be Sunday Mar 7th.

Beckham is replaced and theres about 2 minutes left plus injury time.

Celta scores with 89 minutes played. Three minutes of injury time added to the clock. 3-2 Real Madrid.

Zidane scores 4-2 Real Madrid. Two dropouts in the entire game. Good Game.

Game over...

Great summary, Sean!
Yes, it looks like the Deportivo - Valencia game will be on Saturday 3/6, not on Sunday.

Man it's gonna be hard for me not to get Voom with the offer they have now. The only thing keeping me from doing it is the price I payed for the D* equipment and professional install, close to $800, and Sunday Ticket during the NFL season.

Sigh, I have a pretty big decision to make cuz trying to explain to my wife why keeping both is necessary would be suicidal.

Huge European football fan.

Now if Voom gets Euro 2004 in HD, it will make my decision easy.

Go Spain!

Game is on...
Game temperature 15 degree Celsius or 59 degree Farenheit

La Liga Team Leaders

1. Real Madrid
2. Valencia
3. Deportivo

With 11 minutes played, referee calls a foul on Deportivo on a very controversial call. Deportivo players are very hot and so are the fans. Yellow Card for Luque from Deportivo. Barajas, Valencia, takes a shot against the goal keeper and the goal keeper blocks it but the ball reamins inside the box. A deportivo player blocks the ball and finally the goal keeper gets the ball -- no score.

Game has gotten very interested. Players are hot and so are the fans. Both teams are playing with a lot of intensity.

With 18 minutes gone by Deportivo has taken 3 shots and Valencia has take 5.

With 20 minutes Mista from Valencia all by himself takes a shot against the goal keeper - less than 5 feet from goal keeper - and misses. Ball remained in the box and there was a foul from deportivo player. Now Valencia has another scoring opportunity against the goal keeper. Valencia scored! 1-0 and I believe Deportivo will have only 10 men fro the rest of the game because of a penalty.

Next game: next Saturday Real Madrid vs Saragoza.

25 minutes: Deportivo had a tremendous opportunity to score and the guy instead of hitting the ball decide to pass and it was deflected. Even though Deportivo is playing with 10 men, they are not giving up. Valencia is now aggresively going for the kill. They just missed a score against the post.

Three sound drops and one video drop so far.

Omar from Valencia is injured and first substitution for Valencia. Valencia has not been able to score again in spite of playing very aggrasively and putting pressure on Deportivo.

41 minutes Valencia has shot 8 times while Deportivo has shot 6 times. Corner kick for valencia and barajas deflected the ball too high.

Three extra minute before first half finishes.

Mista takes a shot but misses with two minutes gone by.

Sanchez from Valencia just missed a goal from the side of the goal keeper. First half is gone.

Second half about to start
Here's a summary for the second half (sorry for the spelling)

Second half is on. Deportivo comes out very aggresively and almost scores. Very bad foul (obstruction) from Deportivo against Valencia. Free kick for valencia and they almost score. The ball goes wide. Valencia misses again. It looks like every opportunity that Valencia has it's wasted. I would not be surprised if Deportivo wins the game.

Free kick for Deportivo and it is jus inches wide.

An audio drop and video looked kind of crazy.

61 minutes to gone by. Deportivo had a bunch of scoring opportunities as well. Hard game from both Teams.

4 corners for Deportivo and 2 for Valencia.

Valencia just missed anothe chance. The pace of the game has picked up. Sissoko gets a yellow card for Valencia. The las seconds of the games. 3 minutes of injury time added.

Free kick for Deportivo ball goes out of a valencia player. Deportivo is rewarded with another corner. Ball goes out again and another corner but nothing happens. Here comes Deportivo again a kick to the box and it almost went in. The goal keeper saved it. Still Valencia 1 Deportivo 0. Another sound drop.

Mista is out of the game , limping with 66 minutes gone by.

78 minutes gone by Deportivo has so many scoring opportunities and their time is running out. 19 shots for Valencia, 12 shots for Deportivo.

Oh my! this game is not meant to be for Deportivo, they just missed another one.

3 minutes to go. Vicente from Valencia gets a yellow card.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal for Vicente from Valencia with 2 minutes to go. Crowd goes wild... Deportivo no chance anymore...

More Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooal Vicente to Sanchez WOW!!!!!! Fantastick Valencia 3 Deportivo 0

Game is over. What a game. Geez.... and you though that Soccer was not excited. WOW......

Hi,

I think it's GREAT they started showing live games from the Spanish League, I don't have VOOM but this makes me really consider on getting it.

Does anybody know what is the deal they have since I thought GolTV had exclusive rights for the Spanish League in the US?

Maybe the rights for HD are different from regular TV rights?

Cheers.

Don't know about GolTv rights but I know that Media Pro, who produces all the HD games for VOOM, has exclusive rights to various sports in Spain, Portugal and Europe.

Media Pro has exclusive rights to the following European Sports:

Football -- Spanish Football League, Portuguese Football League, UEFA Cup (International rights for the majority of the Spanish teams taking part in the competition.), Rights in Spain of the leagues of the following countries: Germany, France, England, Italy, Portugal,Holland)

Basketball --Euroleague - Telefónica Media, Euroleague and MEDIApro set up Euroleague Marketing, the company responsible for the management of the rights for this competition. MEDIApro markets the worldwide TV rights.

ACB (Spain)- International TV marketing rights. Consulting to ACB on the contracts of the Canal+ and Regional TV Stations.

Golf --- Seve Trophy - The Seve Trophy is a tribute to one of the best golf players of all time, Severiano Ballesteros, and has the challenge of promoting golf in Continental Europe.

Boxing -- Representation in Spain for the world's leading promoters.

Cycling -- Giro de Italia Rights for Spain, Portugal and South America.

They also have their own production facility, satellite broadcasting services (claim to be able to broadcast their signal anywhere)

They probably sold the Spanish football TV rights for the US to GolTV (after ESPN dropped its privileges over it at the beginning of the season) but only for SD broadcast and then they sold the HD rights to VOOM.

Interesting they can do that, it opens a whole new market.

I'm so disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

I called Voom today to order basic hdtv programming. everything was going good.. suddenly guy said you need to have telephone connection to get our service because receiver needs to be updated everynight between 1 and 3 am thru phone line....

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really did not expect this. I DON'T HAVE A PHONE AT HOME!!!!

Maybe this is really weird to you guys but here in GEORGIA we have this M***O PCS cellular company that offers unlimited whenever calls for just $40 a month so i honestly don't know anybody who uses home phone around here....
sad sad sad sad.... i wanted to watch SOCCER in HD so baadddddd.........
I called telephone companies today, cheapest one is $27 so when i think this looks impossible i will also pay $15 penalty to c****ast for dropping my cable service 'cause i have cable internet with them....
with 2 receivers now my total comes to $95 and this is basic hdtv...

i called c****ast i don't need a phone line for their hdtv service......

The Land Line requirement was changed recently. Currently you do not need a telephone line connected. All updates are downloaded through satellite. However, we have been told that a telephone line will be required later on.

They have a program called "La Liga" that highlights the games over the past two weeks both in HD and SD. The highlights in SD are put in smaller window. They is also analysis of the games and interviews plus they go outside the stadium and highlights the beautiful cities of spain. An excellent 30 minutes program before the game and it is current.

Game is on...

The graphics are transparent so that you can see behind them. First time they are using this. They used to be solid and block the game. The Scoreboard is quite smaller from before.

6:54 gone and game is 0-0

20:12 Roberto Carlos just missed with a free kick.

21:21 great pass from Roberto Carlos to Zadine but too high and they could not score. Real is on the offensive...

Next week Barcelona vs Real Sociedad.

Two moments of video and sound drop so far.

24:01 Beckham had an open shot but decided to pass and passed to the wrong players. Wow why he did not take it himself. Fans went ooooohhhhhh.

27:43 Javier portillo scores. Real 1 Zaragoza 0 with three defenders around him.

32:05 Toledo scores for Zaragoza on kick. Real 1 Zaragoza 1. The ball actually bounced off Salgado and went in.

First half is gone and second half will start soon. There were so many good plays during the game. Very exciting game so far.

What do you guys think about motor sports such as Le Mans, Formula 1 and various rallies in HD?

Maybe Worldsport will broadcast them in the future, live or taped.
