It's possible but I doubt it.

If you want to watch the Euro2004 in standard definition, your only option is pay per view at $20 per game. Ridiculous! I am boycotting any and all Euro 2004 games, except for the final game, if I have to pay $20 to watch just one game.

As far as high definition, I think the best potential is for it to be shown on InHD. InDemand, owner of InHD, is handling the standard definition PPV on cable, so I would think it has the inside track for high definition showing.

Right now, there is no HD PPV via cable with a few exceptions, Cablevision being the most notable one. So InDemand will not distribute the high definition signals via HD PPV unless it is willing to limit them to a few cable systems.

So VOOM may very well have HD versions of the matches if they appear on InHD, since it looks like VOOM will have InHD before long.

There definitely will be an HD feed of each game, to be produced by Euro1080 and Alfacam. It's just a matter of who, if anyone, will distribute it in the U.S. and how much, if at all, it will cost on a PPV basis.

Thank you for the info.

I will wait until the end of May (that's when Voom's offer expires) and I will make my decision then.....

Thank you.

The next live soccer match on WorldSport will be tomorrow Sunday 03/21/04 at 3pm EST. (Note, Zap2It's listing is incorrect!)

http://www.uefa.com/ImagesContent/Co...0X70/50080.gif FC Barcelona vs. http://www.uefa.com/ImagesContent/Co...0X70/50123.gif Real Sociedad

Barcelona has won 8 consecutive games and is now holding the third place in the Primera Division of the Spanish League (behind Real Madrid and Valencia).

Game is on...

Next game: Wednesday Marseille vs Liverpool

Real Madrid lost last night and Valencia won! So Valencia is 1 point behind Real Madrid. If Barcelona wins tonight it will move within 6 points of Real Madrid.

28:14 Ronaldhino just missed a goal. Barcelona has been very offensive in their attack.
41:32 Puyol just went against the goal keeper and the goal keeper stopped the ball.

have been getting a few breakups about 5 of them so far.

At half game they are showing an interview with Carlos Puyol (Barcelona Player). This is from La Liga show. They showed the Bus where Barcelona Players travel and now showing Madrid capital and monuments. Now showing a bar where people get together to watch the game. Excellent program. Will watch again. 2nd Half about to start.
If Barcelona wins tonight, it will be their 9th consecutive win and it will a La Liga record.

56:46 Goal Keeper for Barcelona took a shot; it looked it was an imminent goal but he took all in his body and hands. Barcelona back on the attack and just had two scoring opportunities. Ronaldhino just took it to the goal keeper one to one and the goal keeper took it all in and deflected the ball. 0-0 is the score. What an exciting game.

Wow! Ronaldhino with 5 minutes to go and got foul hit a kick right by the goal keeper and Barcelona goes ahead 1-0; crowd went crazy!

Game over.... Happy Birthday Ronaldhino. 9 consecutive wins for Barcelona a new record.

I was surprised, how close this game was. Tension was very high throughout the game. No easy passes. Both teams fought very well. And a very dramatic conclusion!

Well, the way Barcelona plays, they still have a chance, they are not too far behind Real Madrid...

I liked LaLiga pregame show too. They sowed every single goal from the last week's La Liga matches! Great!
What a great game!

With more HD than anyone else, Voom has found a home...and it's mine!

Ilya,

Do they show the pregame show in 4:3 with sidebars, or do they stretch it? (I assume there are not HD cameras/trucks at every La Liga game, so goal highlights would have to be taken from mostly SD footage.)

Also, where do you get the team logos/shields from?

Thanks!

Actually it was shown in a smaller 4:3 window with scores and stats shown around! Just as I suggested here :) Nice!!!

The next live UEFA Cup broadcast on WorldSport will be tomorrow Thursday March 25 at 3 PM EST.

http://www.uefa.com/ImagesContent/Co...0X70/52748.gif Marseille vs. http://www.uefa.com/ImagesContent/Co...70X70/7889.gif Liverpool

This is the second leg of the Fourth Round. The first leg ended 1-1. This should be a very interesting game to watch. Don't miss it!

I wonder if WorldSport will do a pre-game show for UEFA Cup, like they did with LaLiga. Would be really nice!
This game will be a true VOOM exclusive because the only way to watch it LIVE will be via the Worldsport channel on VOOM. It will be on tape delay at 5:00 pm ET on Gol TV (standard def), but Worldsport is your only option for a live showing (and of course, your only option for a high def showing).

Here's where/how the UEFA Cup games tomorrow are being shown for comparison purposes:

Marseille v. Liverpool
--- Live in HD on Worldsport at 3 pm ET
--- Delayed in SD on Gol TV at 4:30 pm ET

PSV Eindhoven v. Auxerre
--- Live in SD on Gol TV at 2:30 pm ET

Barcelona v. Celtic
--- Live in SD on Fox Sports World at 3 pm ET
--- Live in SD on Fox Sports World Espanol at 3 pm ET

Inter Milan v. Benfica
--- Live in SD on Closed Circuit TV to Bars/Pubs/Restaurants via Setanta Sport at 3 pm ET (expect a cover charge)

Interesting! So, where does that Closed Circuit TV get its feed from? Is it like a special satellite channel that no one can subscribe to?
Ilya,

Setanta Sport has the rights for the game and shows it via "closed circuit", i.e. satellite through special commercially available equipment, to bars/restaurants/pubs/clubs/other establishments. Usually, there is a significant cover charge for Setanta Sport games.

Setanta Sport has the rights to the FA Cup semifinals and Final, and all the Euro 2004 games. It has chosen to show the games only via PPV (satellite and cable in homes) and closed circuit showings to commercial establishments. That is why you will not see any of these games on ESPN channels, Fox channels, Spanish language channels or other sports carrying channels. And the PPV and bars/pubs/etc. are all SD options.

So, at this point, the only option for Euro 2004 is standard definition, whether PPV in your home or paying a cover charge at a bar or pub. Both options are advertised at $20 per game!!! (There is a PPV package for $180 for all the games.)

However, hopefully someone will step forward and sub-license the HD rights for Euro 2004. There will be an HD feed, done by Euro1080 ( Alfacam ), for all the games, which would be available in the U.S. assuming a U.S. high definition channel were to negotiate the rights to show it.

For more info., see the related pages on www.setanta.com

i used to work sports bar ....it depends how big your place is...
if you have a bar that you can fit 200 people they(se****a sports) sometimes charge $1500 per game!!!!! I'm not kidding....
so the sports clubs charge you $10 to $20 cover....

In Canada all games will be on TSN. I do not know if they will get HD feeds but at least you can watch it without paying arm and leg.

Well, the game starts in half an hour. I hope someone can post a commentary. motjes2???

The 3 PM game time is killing me... Can't make it :(

SonomaSearcher, Thanks for the info on Setanta!
Motjes previously posted this company's web address, but I think the blurb I copied below is new. From the less than stellar English, I think one thing it's saying is the company is investing in an HD studio or HD equipment ("bet for HD with ... factory ...")

http://www.mediapro.es/eng/english.htm

Quote:
The MEDIApro group produces “La Liga†in high definition
The first programme of the Spanish Football League for the USA done in high definition

Recently, the MEDIApro group has bet for the high definition with the creation of a factory in order to answer the request of this kind of productions. Since then, the content team works in different projects, among which there is the television programme “La Ligaâ€, that is broadcasted in the American channel World Sports. It is a slot that lasts 26 minutes and collects the news and documentaries of the Spanish Football League. On the other hand, weekly, the MEDIApro group broadcasts the League for the USA, also, in high definition.

The MEDIApro group is now doing a bet for the future in this advanced system, that is characterized by having a superior image quality than the usually one, because it goes from the 625 lines in the PAL system to 1080 and incorporates digital sound. This way, the MEDIApro group proves that it is perfectly prepared to answer with the best features to the production of the United States and Japan, countries where, usually, the programmes of different television genres are broadcasted in high definition.

MLS sucks...
Why would you say MLS sucks. In 2002 USA reached the final 8 because of MLS players on the US roster. You must be a real Euro snob. You should watch more MLS games and see how a 9 year old league is as a good some of the Euro clubs.
Most of the good US players play in europe, there is a reason they go there.
Better leagues, better teams make better players.
Most of the US 02 team play in Europe.
Euro snob? Maybe.

MLS has a ways to go before being recognised as a league on par with some of european leagues. Maybe another 10-15 years.

I haven't heard of any plans of adding HDnet to VOOM. I really doubt this will happen any time soon, but you never know...

No sir you,re wrong most of US players play in MLS, only about 10% play in Europe. I am not saying they are as good as MU yet but for a league that has been around since 1996 it is a major deal. Also don,t forget that MLS is fighting an uphill battle everyday for what ever little attention they get from media and Euro snobs like yourself. If you want support soccer in America[USA] buy season ticket for your local MLS team or watch them on cable TV or ESPN2.
Do they actually play soccer in MLS? Haven't noticed.

50 states in USA and only 10 teams?

I switched to Voom, my install is on Wednesday, finally European soccer in HD, no more MLS on HDNET.
